Both involving wars lords and action also with comedy in it. Both a MC which was wondering and trying to save his own land, and was made into a lord and magic.

Seems to be a very similar premise, where a charismatic, but weak individual gathers up other, stronger or more knowledgeable people to help accomplish their vision and goals that may go against the grain of the current prevailing forces. There are also similarities in that the main character's allies are potentially somewhat manipulative.

You see in both: - female main character closes a contract with male main character - romance set in a non-modern era - female main character takes care of the strategy towards their goal of creating a better world - magic - war - very similar feel I was surprised not to see this in the top recommendations here. I automatically thought of Grancest Senki while watching Maoyuu, they have a very very similar feel.

Start as a small group and rapidly expand in the fantasy setting, it becomes very political in the setting as territory's change hands. There is a large cast of characters with a few dying off as the story progresses, which it does very fast.

Record of Lodoss War and Record of Grancrest War are heroic fantasy series, which means that the main characters are selfless, courageous and idealistic. Theo (Record of Grancrest War) and Parn (Record of Lodoss War) are humble individuals who assemble an unlikely group of characters to bring peace to their homelands. Both anime have a lot of potential despite their shortcomings in their plot development. Record of Grancrest War is especially enjoyable for its numerous pitched battles. Anyone who loves heroic fantasy will want to add this anime to their list.

Shoukoku no Altair and Grancrest Senki are anime with idealistic protagonists and supportive comrades fighting to establish peace. Grancrest Senki is a fantasy anime that holds a lot of promise. Its biggest asset is the pitched battles that make up the anime, but its biggest flaw is the plot development for those battles. Shoukoku no Altair uses its historical setting to create a stronger plot development. Both anime try to satisfy your craving for watching fighting armies and court dramas. Watch Shoukoku no Altair for less ridiculousness. Watch Grancrest Senki for heroic battles.

Although their premises and plot progression are completely different, they're both stories set in a medieval fantasy setting filled with armies battling each other, lots of violence and death, super powers or magic, romance between two enemies and political overtones. So if you liked one you would probably like the other. With that said, I have to make clear that Grancrest Senki is more focused on politics so it might get a little harder to get into. If you happened to watch and like both of these series, I suggest you watch Windaria.

Both were set in a certain time period where warring factions fight for supremacy, except one was set in some quasi european setting while the other is more on the oriental east, one was more of supernatural and fantasy while the other has an odd kind of sci-fi in it.

It involves wars where the principle of peace is at stake, and where one strives to get over the other in order to achieve victory.

Male and female lead from both anime have the exact same relationship and dynamic, except Grancrest Senki ends with closure. I suggest to not watch the last episode of Unnamed Memory until S2 comes out.

Grancrest is similar to many of the main Fate series/movies. (Note - If your new to the Fate franchise, I advise watching by order of release. Many will disagree, but I think it's the best way. Starting with Fate Stay Night - Studio Dean. Similarity's include: - Both have to form pacts/contacts in pairs to fight - GRANCREST has Lord's and Mages and FATE has Master's and Legendary Hero. - Both fight to obtain the Holy Grail (albeit for different reasons) - Both have a dark/light or good/evil vibe. - Both are heavily battle oriented, with great fight scenes. - Both have romantic elements (though not initially the main focus point) - Both  read more

Both have political issues to resolve with plenty of action and a dash of romance if you enjoy one the other is sure to please.

If in this season you liked a war in a fantasy world, then I recommend this anime, that is most of it about wars

Weak duo of protagonists participate in war of factions. There is lot of dialogue between characters why some feuds happen. In GS there is more fights and tempo is faster. My 8/10 and 9/10 anime underrated as heck.

Relatable in the setting itself, Genjitsu and Grancrest are placed in a medieval fantasy world. Grancrest tells the story of Theo, the mc. To be objective with his deeds, eventually, he becomes influent through a region in his country and starts to get allies to build his influence for a certain goal (in order to avoid any kind of spoilers, I'm gonna restrain myself to telling more about it). Genjitsu is more direct about that; Souma was summoned to another world as a hero and yet, he becomes a administrative personality in a kingdom. Besides that, the mc allies are kind similar in different aspects, in special  read more

Feuds between multiple factions with multiple characters involved. Excelent dialogues that are building up tension. Both animes have unique plot which I think is highly sought.

While Grancrest is not about forbidden love there is large percentage of the show dedicated to romance. It's also a romance with lots of fighting with main male character and main female character taking part in the fighting. Also, the main character's feel similar in some aspects to main character's in Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen. Trust me if you liked Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen, there's a good chance you will like Grancrest.

Grancrest Senki is based on a tabletop RPG, much like how Overlord was influenced by Dungeons and Dragons. As such, Grancrest does not hesitate to flex its worldbuilding muscles; every character oozes, well, character and every introduced faction (representing different countries in the anime) has a distinct and vibrant culture. Though it lacks the comedy that Overlord is known for, Grancrest Senki is a must watch for any worldbuilding lover.

This story has 2 main characters heavily relying on eachother, and the romance what I missed from Nejimaki Seirei Senki is present in Grancrest senki, so if you missed this element too, this show is worth the watch as it is full of strategy and politics just like Nejimaki

Far better character drama, easier to track the plot. No one is an overpowered demigod, nor does anyone really become a badass without earning it.

Grancrest War and Tales of Zestiria are heroic fantasy series with kind, courageous and idealistic protagonists. Their personalities and selfless actions brings together powerful comrades as they fight to bring peace. Tales of Zestiria has fluid, action animation expected from ufotable and its storyline has more depth than most heroic fantasy anime. Grancrest War is an easily bingeable anime series that keeps viewers entertained with battles. Heroic fantasy might be less popular than power fantasy and isekai, but it certainly should not be overlooked.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and Record of Grancrest War are high fantasy series with kingdoms at war, magic systems, and heroes. Theo (Record of Grancrest War) is an idealistic knight who teams up with a magic user to bring the war to an end and along the way assembles followers and allies. Alibaba (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) is a cunning young man who teams up with a magic user to become rich, but soon aspires for more idealistic goals, and along the way assembles followers and allies. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magi has better character growth whereas Record of Grancrest War has more  read more

Kingdom and Grancrest Senki are so focused on army battles that almost every episode features armies fighting. Grancrest Senki prefers quick resolutions. Almost every battle ends in one or two episodes. Quick battles are needed because the overarching narrative uses battles to move the plot forward. Kingdom prefers to build-up the tension through longer engagements. Longer battles are used to develop characters through overcoming hardships.

People use crests to determine what noble rank they can acheive or move up too. Crests also determine how strong a person have become or how much power, strength and abilities they can wield!

Both are set in a medieval fantasy world that is plagued by some sort of malevolent force that brings about war on a grand scale. In addition, both male lead characters have the ability to gain magic power from others.

In both fantasy anime we have a heroine from high status met our hero protagonist blessed with great power from low status.

Both have the same plot where it involves a mage and adventurer relationship, except one has a bit of a serious side while the other has a comedy side.

For someone who likes fantasy adventures that involve magic and warring kingdoms both anime are a good choice. For people that aren't to fond of this genre, they may still grow on you, because of some characters, the mature themes or the story twists. But be warned they are also simular in their bad points like pasting and to many characters.
