Even though these appear - superficially - to be totally different (furry love vs. elf love; trading/economics vs. intergalactic warfare), you'd have to blind AND somewhat stupid to watch these two and not link them. For starters, anyone watching at length will only be in it for the SLOWLY developing romance between a human and his nonhuman, can-live-for-100s-of-years life partner. A HUGE amount of time gets put into complicated subplots, for sure, but that's all decoration. What people want is for the leads to take their relationships forward beyond unsure friendship/lovers territory... which, of course, NEVER SODDING WELL HAPPENS since interest would fade once the  read more

Both space operas with lots of politics.

Both are great space opera sci-fic animes in which 2 races are against each other; for Seikai no Monshou, humans are against the Abhs, for Terra, humans are against the Mus

Sunrise, heavy space drama's, hard romances, incredible settings, and phenomenal music from the same composer. Superb quality in both and if you like Seikai no Monshou continue with its sequels.

Both anime are military SF, with large scale interplanetary war, with action set mostly in space.

If you are into classic and intelligent sci-fi, both shows are definitely for you.

I know, one is absolutely space sci-fi and the other is a military ww2 drama, but the basic premise of both comes to be about group of people developing their relationships while overcoming the hardships of war and bias along the way.

Both Crest of the Stars and Record of Lodoss War contain love stories maintained alongside their overarching plots, and said love stories are handled in much the same way: ambiguously. Lafiel and Deedlit, the heroines of these stories also bear striking similarites in both appearance and personality. Parn and Jinto, the protagonists, also possess kindred pasts and (somewhat) similar dispositions. The art styles are also comparable, but that is likely a product of the decade in which they were both created. The main plot of these series' can be quite different at times, but they share similar themes and both tell wonderful stories.

Both shows have an "Epic" vibe to them, and both feature two people becoming involved in something bigger than they could have imagined when they first got involved.

Both have a main couple with a master/servant relation in which she is the more powerful and smarter player. They constantly tease and banter each other with witty dialog. The romance progresses at similar speed and in a similar way. Both treat difficult ethical questions in subplots, and have some degree of politics and intelligence. Their genre beside the romance is very different (space opera vs. fantasy version of Edo Japan).

Each these are oddly good romance with the heroine being nobility and ourguy being just some guy. Each these also are too good for this world and will never be fully adapted as anime, ha!

both are mostly set in space, a lot of drama and great music both share the theme of a society that has been devoid to a certain extent of emotions but one or more of the characters still has a normal range of emotions. Geneshaft is more action oriented while Seikai has more politics and relationships

Being of the same Sci-Fi genre of space opera they share some common elements like the growth of a young boy that becomes relevant in the story as he evolves and both are in an environment of war between space reigns with all the political issues and combat action of spaceships. Sekai no Monshou (aka. Crest of the Stars) takes a more personal aproach to the story and GSY Rai (aka. Thunderjet) takes a more action and great scale approach. Both great and dramatic stories with enough character development one more serious than the other.

Both are epic space operas by Sunrise where the main character and his love interest get involved in conflicts that are much bigger than they could have imagined.

While much of the story and setting differ, I found the "innocent" feel of the adventure of Jinto and Lafia to be very similar to the adventure found in Castle in the Sky.

Crest of the Stars and Macross are the beginning of long running space opera franchises. Crest of the Stars is adapted from a light novel series first published in 1996 and continues to this day. Macross is an original anime from 1982, which continues to have new anime. They share some similar themes, but otherwise have different approaches. There are very few successful anime space operas that fans of either franchise would miss out by not watching the other.

While Crest of the Stars is less recognizable than Mobile Suit Gundam, both franchises are must watch franchises for space epics. Crest of the Stars is closer to a space opera whereas Mobile Suit Gundam is closer to a military science fiction in space. The cause of their conflicts are different, which creates different themes. War and politics are still at the forefront of the series.

Zipang and Crest of the Stars are military series that emphasizes battleship engagements, politics, and comradery. Zipang is a historical fiction set in the Second World War. It follows a navy crew who are mysteriously transported to the past and have to reconcile themselves with being modern Japanese stuck in the Second World War. Crest of the Stars is a space opera that follows two main characters and their role in an intergalactic war. Both series take the unusual approach of centering their narrative on the point of view of the expansionist power and having the viewer support them despite being the aggressors. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Crest of the Stars are considered to be among the best space opera franchises. Their stories depict the conflict between mankind and an expansionist, alien galactic empire. Military space engagement, politics, and comradeship are significant aspects of their stories. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 has a greater emphasis on space battles and broader cast of main characters for its story. Crest of the Stars has a more personal storyline focused on two main characters and their role of the conflict. It is also interesting that Crest of the Stars takes the point of view of the expansionist, alien galactic empire.

Crest of the Stars and Arslan Senki tell the stories of two royal heirs as they navigate political and military conflicts. Lafiel and Arslan have very different personalities and different journeys. From the beginning, Lafiel (Crest of the Stars) demonstrates competence and leadership. Arslan is the complete opposite as he must learn to become a strong leader and his success comes from having strong supporters. While both series have different genres, people looking for anime that emphasizes politics and war will enjoy them.

Crest of the Stars and Shoukoku no Altair exemplify the expression that war is the continuation of politics by other means. In Crest of the Stars, we watch a conflict between major galactic powers from the perspective of its two main characters who hold political and military power in the aggressive side of the conflict. In Shoukoku no Altair, we watch a conflict between two country with an asymmetrical relationship from the perspective of its main character who holds political and military power in the smaller country. Both anime show war as a means used for accomplishing goals when diplomacy is ineffective. Shoukoku no Altair  read more

A similar thrust into a political battle and into nobility that the main characters in both of these animes experience.
