I won't rehash the story. The synopsis covers the basics, though it does have one point wrong. (It is consistent with how it is first presented in the manga though, so I suspect that whomever wrote the synopsis didn't read very far.) As it progresses, this story could be said to touch on low-grade horror. (I've read 4 volumes so far)
This manga is unusual in that it accurately portrays the maturity levels of the characters. The teen acts like one, so do those in their 20s and 30s. Both body language and speech are consistent with their

I just checked this out on a whim after seeing it had an upcoming anime this winter, and since it wasn't that popular and had a score below 8, I didn't expect that much. I've only read 6 chapters (though this manga has long chapters, around 80 pages with lots of text), but so far I'm very positively surprised. The art is great, the characters are interesting, witty and intelligent without being overly abstract minded and unrelatable (unlike say Monogatari characters), the world seems interesting and well thought out (though not super unique), and so far I've enjoyed it a lot.

I've read 8 chapters at the time of this review. I don't have the "you must read more!!!" bias.
The initial arc is very strong. There is a huge sense of mystery and the characters in it aren't conveniently dumb. You might be reading this story and think "wait, but how about this?" and then you will turn the page and the characters will actually consider that option when trying to solve the mystery. The start of the story has a good mix of supernatural stuff (ghosts and japanese demons, like Kappas and stuff) combined with real criminal investigation and you often don't know how much of ... In a world where supernatural, discreet youkais exist, some are bound to interact with humans. This ultimately leads to circumstances that would become inexplicable, and thus raise suspicions regarding the existence of the said beings. To maintain the obscurity of youkais' existence, the FMC is chosen to be the "God" of youkais, and it is her duty to provide logical explanations to such supernatural cases, even if it means to make up one.
What makes the manga so enthralling to me is just how elaborate it is as a whole. Each arc opens with a clear direction and skillfully introduces each character. As the story progresses, ... Apr 19, 2023
The first story comprises of 6 volumes, but I stopped at volume 5 because it was becoming a chore to read. There is too much text for this to be a manga. According to the author's notes, the manga is an adaptation of the original novel. It is often mentioned in these notes that there was a problem with putting too much text in a single panel, and it turned out to be true. The story is good, but does not have enough depth to warrant such a long reading effort. I would rather spend my time and money on other manga.
