Preliminary (Unknown/6 chp)
Story: This is a pretty unique shonen ai manga, because of the inclusion of hard of hearing characters. You don't see those often in any manga. The pacing is good. Some people might find it a bit slow, but I like how you get to see the characters warming up to each other. :)

Art: Great! It's very nice. The people don't look disproportional and everyone looks fiiiine. :D

Character: Taichii (dark-haired MC) isn't all that unique. He's loud, straightforward, says and does what he wants, gets into fights, kind, etc. You can find characters like him in many other mangas, BUT the author did a great ...

This one was hard for me...emotionally.

While the French translation of the title - "Entends-tu le chant du soleil?" OR "Can you hear the song of the sun?" seems so much more elegant, the manga's real beauty lies in its ability to convey the warmth and beauty of loving another human in a simple yet impactful way without falling into traditional OR societal conventions.

It does it so well - that it kicks up that feeling in your gut reminding you of when you felt that very same yearning and "wanting to care" for someone - even if it's a feeling you didn't quite have a ...

“Looking for a note taker”

Words as simple as these can easily impact someone's life. "I Hear the Sunspot" tells the story of two college students who meet by chance yet end up closely intertwined in each other’s lives. While doing so, the story explores themes of isolation, self-regard, happiness, and social anxiety.

The dynamic between the reserved, hard-of-hearing Kouhei and the lively and vibrant Taichi is endearing. Kouhei is easily misunderstood by most people so he finds comfort in Taichi, who is fond of Kouhei’s good-natured personality. While the presentation of many themes is subtle, the manga is realistic and easy to follow. The characters ...

An amazing manga. It involves people who have difficulty hearing and how people who can hear clearly interact. Its a great volumes/books for anyone who is going through any time of disability particularly hearing difficulty/deaf. hearing aids, sign language, etc are also addressed.

Its well worth your time. The friendship, the art style, and the way things are brought up with different experiences is wonderful.

2 volumes total that I'm aware of. Both books are very relate-able and really adds to your own insight of what people go through in all sorts of experiences.
I love both of the main characters. ...

I didn't read much Shounen ai mangas, because they are mostly about to satisfy the fujoushis' and fudanshis' imaginations. But the Hidamari ga Kikoeru is totally different. The story is very lovely, I could identify with the protagonists.

I also had hearing impairment in my childhood (but it's been operated), so I know how does it feel living with worse hearing. It's really depressing, and you might feel that you are alone, because you hear the others badly. The manga showed it authentically, and it's great that Kouhei could find a friend in Taiichi, who helped not only as note taker, but he cheered him with ...

This story should have ended with the first volume (the first 6 chapters). It treated the subject of disabiity in a realistic and respectful manner, showed likable characters growing closer in a way that felt natural, and skillfully avoided problematic tropes.

I would recommended not reading past that point. Chapter 6 is where the story was originally meant to end, with just a bare hint that the characters would grow to develop romantic feelings. But because it was serialized in a BL magazine, the author was told to add more chapters and ramp up the romance content. From that point on, every scene feels forced. ...

Preliminary (7/6 chp)
This was the first manga that I read that I really liked. The story and characters were both extremely fleshed out and felt real to me.

The story deals with people who have hearing disabilities and the struggles they face, as well as the mistakes that non-hearing impaired people do while interacting with them. It delves into feelings of inadequacy and self doubt, and questioning where your place in the world is. The struggles are not only faced by the character with a hearing impairment, but rather every character-even the minor background ones- are fleshed out and made human. I'm glad that it is continuing, ...

I'm going to start out with the negatives. The romantic scenes were definitely lacking but aside from that the communication and misunderstandings between the main characters, Taichi and Kohei are beyond frustrating. It seems like 98% of this story is just them getting into fights or being too busy to even be together. Which I understand, those kinds of things happen which makes it semi realistic but I think it's just overly excessive and reused the same plot line of them having a lack of communication throughout the majority of their story. It was starting to become heavily repetitive and it seemed like they couldn't ...

Preliminary (14/6 chp)
I can honestly give this series a 10/10 from the bottom of my heart due to the beautiful art, setting, characters, and most of all, relationships. I had received the first two books as a present, devoured them, and instantly ordered the following volumes. This story brought me so much joy from the first chapter. The inclusion of disabilities is a very interesting and personal touch for myself, personally, and the ties the characters together in beautiful ways. I joined the characters as they expressed emotions so realistically I could feel them come to life through the pages, crying and laughing with them. This is ...

Hidamari ga Kikoeru in the beginning was setting itself up to potentially be a high 8 on my list, but it did not live up to that expectation towards the end of the first volume.

I'm a sucker for somewhat slow-burn romances, but only under the circumstances that the issues and internal struggles the characters are facing are focused first. MAL needs to update the number of chapters the manga has published because I was expecting a short cute story arc in the span of 6 chapters. If that was still the case, I wouldn't mind this end to the 6th chapter, but with there ...

I really loved this manga when it came out.

What really makes this story stand out is the attention to detail on disabilities and how each side interprets certain situations. Marketably, this is a boy's love story, but this first part is so subtle that you'd probably not be aware of it until the end. Instead, this is a story about living in a world of miscommunication and trying to find even ground where everybody can stand equally.

The first two or three chapters are so good. It really hits you emotionally and it makes you rethink how you've treated people, whether they have a disability or ...

I Hear the Sunspot is the kind of BL that would be better if it weren’t. Weren’t BL that is.

Most of this manga is quite nice – in the short amount of chapters it has it nicely describes the difficulties handicapped people might face and their interaction with society. It doesn’t resort to silly over the top bullying but rather a vague feeling of disconnection and discomfort, which feels quite more real. It takes a shot at both sides of the coin, both people that ignore the disabled ones because it’s easier and those that romanticize, perhaps even fetishize them with a sort of saviour’s ...
