In a world where hopelessness has blended into everyday life, a dystopian tale about some teenagers and their struggles. Anyway, frankly speaking, there really is no hope; the earth is about to end.

"Dead Dead Demon's Dedededestruction" (or DDDD for brevity's sake) is Asano Inio's latest project. If you enjoyed Oyasumi Punpun or any of his other works, you're sure to find plenty of the same realistic characterisation and beautiful artwork in DDDD. It's looking like it might be a little more light-hearted than Asano's other works, though, but it's hard to say for sure with only two chapters released at the moment.

i'm guessing asano read alien 9 and liked the premise of japan having to deal w some alien invasion. he must have also liked the idea of adding school girls to a sort of but not quite really invasion story. which is fine, really. but alien 9 does better and much faster. the art similarly cute, yet peculiar. but that comes with the territory

Little girls that go through life-changing events, DEDEDE being much MUCH weirder and more obviously fictional. Both manga have a stay-at-home brother who does nothing but lays around and plays videogames but is shown in a very positive light and helps his sister and her friend go through this troubling time.

Has a similar kind of humour (at least as I see it)

Are you looking for a good slice of life about adventures with great characters that rival Asano's? You've found just the right thing. This thing is mind-bogglingly good, while rather simple, but the cozy atmosphere of it hits just right. A must read.

How did you decide that something is good or bad? Did you prefer to choose something for the greater good or lesser evil? Both Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction and Pluto tales a realistic story on how human and AI (in Pluto) behave when given a conflict of morality. Would they kill a person to save others? or would they save a person that kill others?

Something wrong is happening in relatively quiet places that only negatively affects the protagonists, also both have THOSE moments in art

DeDeDeDe clearly pays homage to the classic blue tanuki-i mean cat robot.

By the same author, basically the same art style – even with identical looking characters

aliens, cute girls, comedy. i do usually compare ueda hajimes works to asano inio's

Blending a belic tale and the hardships of adolescence is what the line both if this works, though if you're looking for something rather compelling and dynamic you may go for DDDD which has a more subtle and unorthodox aproach to drama

Both have extremely similar plot and setting: aliens invading earth, nobody can fend them off; both written from the POV of kids who struggle to manage all the while growing up to be teenagers and learning from their mistakes. I read Qko-chan when i was young, so i may be a bit biased but so far the Honobono Fuufu story bears a striking resemblance.

Even if the scope for Dead Demons Destruction is much broader, the basic “cute girls having fun which will tell you something about life” is the same, just as the sci-fi elements.

Asano Inio stated that his next manga was going to be about cute girls having fun, which resulted in Dedededestruction. You can't really compare it with Shinozaki-san, which is a light hearted comedy (for some reason everything Asano Inio does - except for the Denpagumi music video - gets bleak really fast), but including cute girls having fun, these two manga contain something very rare; a positive depiction of a fat male-gendered otaku! It's actually really refreshing. Be sure to watch Steins;Gate for another example.

Both heavily feature a Doraemon-like alien character and two girls are the core of the series, along with one boy as a secondary romantic interest. Both deal with dark topics happening to cute girls, too, and they share a surreal artstyle with impactful panelling. There's also another important similarity, but it's a spoiler :(

When reading these two series, I find an odd connection between them. For instance, there's the alien invasion idea that becomes part of their storytelling. Then, there's the sci-fi culture that is adapted into a rather unorthodox format combining elements of surreal creativity and slice of life. Both series are also known for their relationship dynamics (Hitoriboochi has subtle romance though)

They're both about an alien invasion in a no sci-fi way, having as result a mature yet funny slice of life manga who talks about human nature.
