Girl Got Game rather “funky” English translation for 活力100% aka Katsuryoku 100% aka Power!! Nevertheless, don’t let the title fool you with the assumption that there’s like magic involved or whatever. Not at all. It’s a story over in the sports and school life realm. Additionally, the story is certainly a gender-bender type. A girl ends up dressing up as a guy. Oh no, don’t you go saying “copy –cat of Hana-Kimi or Ouran High School Host Club..!” :P It’s not entirely like that at all. Rather, the reasoning for why she, being the main and central protagonist, cross-dresses for a very different and ... bizarre reason. But, there’s quite sufficient amount of backing for why she must do so. And like really, what girl doesn’t want to go live with a “harem” of hot guys? No one, right?

Anyway, the story starts off with the central protagonist beginning her new life as a guy. The main motive equals: basketball! She encounters various characters who help her recognize how to deal with phoniness and fakeness and other “ethics.” Naturally, this story being shoujo, romance develops between her and another protagonist… But, leading events make it difficult to discern whether or not to follow through with love at all. Therefore, drama ensues as she becomes confused and lost of what to do. Regardless, throughout the story, intense comical relief comes storming through. For about half of the story, I was dying laughing. And rounding up to the end of the story, some moments seemed rather pleasantly surprising (at least to me) and yet other moments disappointed me. Overall closure is quite well determined, but, it does still stir my interest and desire to see what happens next. Altogether, the story envelops an interesting plot with plenty of comical moments within a rather dramatic, romance high school story.

To the art aspects… I found nothing too “crude” or “unartistic..” And, well, I can be picky at times… but, really I found very few artistic flaws. A few angular sketches were a bit disproportionate, but mostly quite impressive and fine. Movements and sudden change scenes were quite well drawn and organized. Furthermore, the general layout of character and setting were very appropriate. Never too detailed (or difficult to read) nor simplistic (or plain). Nothing truly stands out about the art style, though… It’s quite typical.

The story is not so entangled with more than five or six characters so some of the foil/clown/side characters are never too well-developed but show relatively true personalities. The mangaka apparently made some exaggerations of the character traits of several minor characters, however, the main characters represent relatively real and true people. At least, I can recognize that people would act and feel similarly as the characters of her story in real life. There is enough connection to real life events and feelings that I was able to sense. Furthermore, the characters develop and transform, which is commonplace in stories, but directs a change and brings forth improved personalities.

All in all, I quite thoroughly enjoyed the manga. Perhaps, I am a bit biased, since I like this whole Reverse-Harem idea… Nevertheless, I found plenty aspects of the manga enjoyable. The comedy was just so amazing. The drama was overdone, slightly, but I could feel that the tensions and emotions were realistic enough. Then, the characters were not THAT loveable, but entertaining and genuine enough to follow their lifestyles in the story. Anyway, I encourage everyone who liked Hana-Kimi to give this manga a shot. This mangaka deserves equal credit for coming up with this amusing idea to let other enjoy.

At first view i was debating myself if i should watch it or not. The plot line seemed interesting but the basketball part kinda turned me off. But i started reading it as soon as i was finish with the summary. The story was halarious, it kept me laughing from start to finish. Overall i think anyone would enjoy this story. I've left out some things that i condsider spoilers.

The plot line was great. Like i said i was glad the story didn't completly revolve around basketball. At first Kyo's alone, living with a roomate who she can't stand yet finds herself attracted to ... him. Ofcoarse no one knows she's a girl so she has the burden of keeping that hidden. And being in a dorm filled with guys she's sure going to have a hard time. Showering while the guys eat, never chaging in the men's lockeroom, but how long can she hide it?

I thought the art was fine, nothing outstanding either. Some parts the expressions are more empesized and stand out more.
Character: 8
I think they develop very well. They all come to have closer relationships, as friends or in the case of some roomates more than that.
Enjoyment: 10
The fact that i gave this a ten was that i was completly entranced in this story. It was halarious, and parts i almost died laughing. I didnt find myself bored at any part so that's why i gave this a ten.

Now this book is outstandin all the way through!Not only are the characyers great but so is the story.One thing you need to know is you GOTTA GO AND READ THIS BOOK. ITS AWESOME!

First i have to say i didn't plan to read this manga. I actually just didn't have other manga left to read.
But i have to say i didn't regret it.
This manga is one of my favorite.
I don't think that there was any chapter that wasn't funny or that i didn't laugh like crazy.(well my boyfriend found me rolling on the floor many times. I even had to take a break cos my stomach couldn't handle more pain)
So if you like extreme funny manga than don't miss out on this one.

The story is about a girl who was trick bye her father to enroll ... to a high school to play basketball. Well the problem is that she has to enroll as a boy.
After enrolling her father moved away to the US.
Now she can't go home. She has to live as a boy in a dorm full of boy and trow away her dignity as a women.
Well sounds hard enough.
But theres more she has to live with one of her teammate.
How can she hide her gender from him when there together 24/7..

I don't think the story is original but i really loved it.
The art is great.
The character is outstanding.
It's a perfect manga to read if you're a fan of comedy,romance and gender bender.

Girl Got Game or Power!! as it is more widely known is the story of Kyo Aizawa, a girl incredibly excited about moving to a new school as she has heard they have cute uniforms. Unfortunately for her, her father-a basketball fanatic until he had his career cut short by an injury-has other plans. Enrolling her as a guy, he forces her to pretend she is a he in order to join the Basketball team. On her first day, Aizawa meets Chiharu Eniwa-a fellow basketball player who gets just as wound up as she does. And, as expected in a shoujo, chaos and a heck ... of a lot of misunderstandings ensue.

I'm going to start this review with the manga's crowning glory. The humour. I haven't laughed like I did while reading this in a very long while - and the humour definitely steps up around volume 6 or 7. I think the mandaka was excellent in her timing of comedic skits like anything which leaves Hamaya's mouth. Maybe the fact this manga starts off more as a comedy with romance rather than the other way around gives it an edge.

However, once you start to unpick the story, threads begin to snap. I found a fair few things incredibly frustrating and felt she pushed the boundaries with shoujo misunderstandings too far. Up until around volume 6 I'd say the arguments between Eniwa and Aizawa became common and boring, almost to the point I'd wanted to skip a chapter in order to find something worth reading. Also a misunderstanding between Aizawa and another character, Yura, stretches my boundaries to their absolute limits. Yes, alright it's a shoujo and so a lot of leniency is rewarded on that counts-it's hard to be original when the genre has been so thoroughly explored.

However maybe I'm being too harsh. After all, I've read the shoujo greats such as Mars, Skip Beat or Akuma to Love Song, and this manga doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is - a humorous, heartfelt and simple piece of manga.

Despite it's drawbacks, if you've got time to burn and fed up of slushy romantic shoujo but still love the genre I urge you to give it a try. Who knows, you might enjoy it!

This manga really disappointed me. i was expecting something similar to hana kimi but boy was i wrong. sure there is a girl who crossdresses because of some ungodly reason in both. but the romance between her and her room mate never really developed well in Power. i personally was looking forward to this manga for that reason, the forbidden romance, but now that iv finished it... well im regretting reading it. this may just be me, dont let my review stop you from reading. we all have our own opinion. happy reading!

The storyline of this manga was everywhere and didn't make sense really. For example, the premise of the manga: the dad forces his daughter to pretend to be a boy to play basketball. Yes, it's a cute premise, but it's never fully explained and just kind of forced upon us.

Basketball is forgotten by the sixth volume. I was never really satisfied with Kyo and Chiharu's relationship. :/ A bunch of supporting characters were introduced but quickly forgotten. In fact, the only thing I truly loved about this manga was Hayama. He was hilarious and I found him endearing in the two bonus chapters about him.

And ... Tokyopop, "Girl Got Game"? Seriously, what a ridiculous title. Wasn't it suppose to be %100 manga?

If I could say just one thing about this series, it'd be that it didn't take itself seriously -- although sometimes it really should have: there were moments when the plot/scene was almost too ridiculous to be remotely believable. It's a funny series though, and it can be touching at times. I really liked the ending of this series. :)

"Power!!" also named "Girl got game" is a manga, about a father wanted a son that played basket, but got a daughter instead. So the girl dresses opp like a boy to attend school and to play for the boys basketball team. At school she shares the room with a boy, and they fall in love with each other. (Happens early in the manga, so its no spoiling) So in the beginning it's funny, because her room mate thinks that he is gay and starts wondering if he is crazy. Later he finds out, but it become their secret.

Then the female basketball team (from ... another school) meets the male basketball team.. OoOOoooo..

A wholesome romance manga with some drama. Its fun and exciting as well. I liked it a lot has a teen, and i re-read it again 10 years later. I recommend it!

HA HA!! Wow I laughed soooo much in this manga!! It was hilarious even though there wasn't that much actual romance it was more just ridiculousness on basically all levels. I really enjoyed reading it though, if you want something that will just make you laugh your head off then read this, it doesn't take that long, I did it in a day mostly.

At first glance, Girl Got Game (or for those of you who prefer the original name, Power!!) may seem like just another gender-bender manga about a girl who cross-dresses to get into a boys' school, but it's a little different than you'd expect. First of all, the girl is forced by her father in order to play on the boys basketball team instead of going on her own free will. Second, this has a lot more craziness compared to your typical shoujo manga.

The characters in Girl Got Game are realistic and easy to relate to despite being a bit exaggerated. You won't find any Mary-Sues ... in this series. The art might seem a little mediocre at first, but it keeps improving throughout the series.

Romance might be the second genre, but the main genre of Girl Got Game is the comedy. Some scenes might be a bit ridiculous, but from the freakouts to the misunderstandings, you'll always have something to laugh about. So if you're looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy, I'd recommend reading this.

Searching for funny manga and came across this one! I read it all in one go, it's pretty short -- only 10 volumes. It is hilarious!!!

There were plenty of scenes were I laughed out loud -- mostly because of the characters' expressions. HAHAHA! So funny! I don't want to ruin it for you but there is this one part in volume 7 where I was literally dying and struggling to breathe; I was laughing so hard! So many misunderstandings! Very cute premise and so enjoyable throughout.

I feel the ending was much too rushed though, I ... wish it could have gone on for a few more volumes, but overall quite enjoyable and indeed hilarious!

Overall it has a lot of funny moments that made this manga worth reading. The story has several inconsistencies, but those moments alone was enough to get me hooked. It felt like a roller coaster, it goes from ok average typical events to incredibly ridiculous and then back into that same cycle. Rarely have a felt surprised this much from a manga. Also I just wished the characters were more drawn out. The only one who had character development and an actual complete backstory was the newest addition towards the end. This manga had a lot of potential, if it wasn't so scatter brained. ... I really enjoyed the few characters that got any time and the humor the mangaka has. Just read it, its pretty short and you'll have a good laugh.

If u are looking for a funny shoujo manga, this manga will be the best choice
It is so funny and i think it is the cutest shoujo manga i have ever read so far.
The story is about a girl who in disguise as a a boy and join a basketball team there. Then she met this handsome boy and fall in love with him, unfortunately this boy have a rotten personality and it pisses her off, so their love life began.

The art for me is pretty good, the character is drawn beautifully. What i love the most from this manga is the ... character. The MC is a brave girl and pretty open about her life and the Male lead is a rude but shy boy, he usually blushed and i think it just so fun to see how their relationship goes. They are so cute and this manga makes me laugh a lot. Definitely a must try!!!
