I was tempted by the plot of forbidden love, as those always seem to be decent reads. But despite its alluring prelude of the two main characters kissing under a cherry blossom tree when they have never met before, attracted to each other "at first sight", the romance gets rather weak as it started too early and focuses mostly on whether they will "do" it or not for two of the three volumes.
The art, despite the annoying ubiquity of the big eyes, is rather decent and does not intrude in the already staggering plot in a large amount. It is clear and focused and author

I picked this manga randomly (real meaning: I saw the review on the front page and entered. It became one of my beloved habits). This is the main result, I guess.
Story After reading the summary for the first time, I thought about two things. First, this story has to be dark or at least very deep. Second, the plot may be slower than it's seemed to be. I was wrong, So wrong. 'Ai Hime' turns the forbidden love story between an uncle and a niece quickly into a light, heart-warming shojo manga. It would be even plainer, if the age different issue didn't appear. However, ... Apr 24, 2010
For the most part, I was rather disbelieving when I heard some people claim that after reading so much manga, this still remained on their favorites list. Seriously-- thirteen chapters?
But I decided to give it a try. ...and almost dropped it. You see, the first two chapters, I felt, had the romance going at breakneck speed. It was so sudden I seemed to be rolling my eyes at it already. However, beyond that, Ai Hime's pace was pretty good, considering the bounds of -thirteen- chapters. It was enough to show the development of feelings, especially the girl's (Mao) without letting too much dead air hang around. ... Nov 27, 2013
This manga is perhaps one of my favourite shoujo mangas of all times. It starts out as a classic boy meets girl. The female and male main characters meet for the first time beneath a sakura tree... surely fated to never meet again. And then of course, they meet again! The female protagonist finds out, that in fact, the boy she kissed is her "uncle" (not blood-related though), and she would be his "niece" and her parents ask her "uncle" to take care of her while they're away. Before I say anymore about this manga, you should know a couple things:
-The age difference between the ... May 9, 2010
This manga has the best pieces of so many shoujos like it all wrapped together in a short and sweet story.
Based around Jin-nii and Mao's "forbidden love" (they are technically but not biologically uncle and niece) it has everyone's favourite snippets from some of the most popular mangas around: forbidden love (Akuma de Sourou, Faster than a Kiss); an attractive "adult" or older/maturer guy (Full House Kiss, StudentxTeacher mangas); passionate declarations of love (Kaikan Phrase, Boku ni natta Watashi); a possessive/jealous guy (Love Celeb) and real sincere emotion (Kare First Love). A few rivals appear against Jinya, after Mao, a couple of times but these are ... Aug 25, 2010
I was looking at the two reviwes for this manga well waiting for the video to lode and i noticed the not the most positive. i could only read the first part since my computer dosen't alow the 'read more' button to work(very annoying) but still the people that have reviewd don't seem to be the biggest fans of this manga. hence why i'm writting a very positive review for it!
this review isn't going to be long and it's going to be brief. so to start of i think i should mention that i love this manga. it is my favourite. a couple reasons for ... Jun 17, 2011
This manga was a great read. It's a typical shoujo, but it has a lot of unique elements to it as well. It's only thirteen chapters, so it's a pretty easy read, and it has a happy ending.
I was tentative to read this at first because I'm not a fan of incest or relationships between family members, and if that's what keeping YOU from reading this, then don't worry. The lovers aren't blood related. The male was adopted into their family. Aside from that, the main characters are attractive, but like a typical shoujo, the girl was tiny, cute, and has small breasts while ... Jan 2, 2012
I’ll just start by saying my favorite character was the cat... ah hum.
I was actually un-attracted by the “forbidden love” thing. I’ll let teachers slide but relatives, even not related by blood, kind of makes me run the other way. So when I first started reading this I got through two chapters and was totally confused as to what Jinya’s relation really was to Mao’s father. They say he’s Mao’s fathers brother originally but I’ll save you my grief and explain he’s her father’s step-brother [not related by blood at all] and the author takes it away a step further by saying he was adopted ... I was curious to read this piece since I am looking for a love story which encircles on the story of an older guy. So right, someone recommend it to me.
STORY: The Story is good. It is a typical Shoujo Manga that everyone always saw. the fact that it is 13 chapters and the author showed how their love bloom is actually amazing. Though I'm really shocked how fast their love for each other starts. No something that happens that would make them for each other. As I say, a typical shoujo manga. And a short one, at that. I gave it a good grade ... Jan 1, 2011
A sweet story of forbidden love that manages to spin the whole "family-members" deal without raising the question of "incest," as the uncle and niece concerned aren't actually blood related. (He's the stepbrother of her father, and 7 years older than her.)
Story - 7/10 The story is good, though not unique because it is the whole forbidden love thing. The romance also starts with immediate "love at first sight," which felt unrealistic and rushed. After that, though, the pace was great. They have a great relationship and it managed to keep my attention even though there were not huge conflicts. A very satisfying ending, as ... Oct 2, 2011
I love this manga! It has no real slow/ no action parts in terms of romance; there always building up never in the middle of there relationship which what I personally like. It's a very cute and great manga

Ai hime is the story about a 17 year old girl who starts cohabiting with her non blood related uncle who is only 7 years her senior. However they met before they knew each other earlier and had a very big romantic moment which ended with a kiss. Now these love birds must live together.
This series is neither original nor unique but that in itself doesn't make it bad. I have read the author's other works and they pretty much play the same way as this did. 2 people fall in love, start dating, have sex, the end without any love rivals. I've read ... |
