Both are somber stories with lots of nice art and character designs and also both deal with pretty bad illnesses as well too.

Both feature the same atmosphere - a prodigious young girl enrolled in a special army unit, and her distant love.

They both talk about two teenagers in love who get separated bit by bit. They also both have a movie adaptation.

One-volume science fiction romances adapted by Yumeka Sumomo from Shinkai Makoto films -- so they have the distinctive signature touch of two talented creators over two mediums.

They both carry this feeling of melancholy and feature impossible romances.

Plot wise these series may have nothing in common. It is the feelings they invoke, the depth of these feelings that makes both these series shine. Masterfully narrated. The subtle changes, like rain on a spring day, eventually overtake the reader. Sometimes the little things in life are to be appreciated. Life and love. Aren't they what make the world go round?

Classical seinen mechas with a heavy focus on human feelings, specially loneliness.

Two completely different universes, but they both revolve around two lovers torn apart by unimaginable circumstances, trying to reach for the other across wide expanses of space and time. Both are single volume manga with beautiful stories and art.

Both manga deal with impossible loves - while one is divided by time and space, the other is divided by life and certain death.
