Manga exploring layers of metafiction and the art of creating and living through stories
reportRecommended by St0rmblade
Both manga exhibit a high degree of metanarrative complexity. They challenge the reader's perceptions of reality and storytelling, often blurring the boundaries between the narrative layers. This complexity adds depth to the storytelling and invites readers to engage on multiple levels.

Both seinen manga have their mangaka inserting themselves into their stories to further the plot. Both works are fairly meta in nature. But do keep in mind that while Opus has a strong shounen feel to it, Fraction is an out and out gore/horror manga.

These are both similar in theme, Yume Nikki involving dreams and Opus involving fiction. They both center around a vaguely mind-bending plot, although I'd hazard that Opus goes much farther with it. Their art styles are similar, plainly rendering things which shouldn't make sense. Oh, also, the author of Opus, Satoshi Kon, made a film called Paprika. It focused on dreams, dream exploration, dream logic, etc. It was really well handled, and you can get some of its taste in Opus as well.

Both of these manga are metafiction. In both cases, the protagonist is the mangaka, and he can communicate with his manga character. Also, they both have to keep something bad from happening, as one of their manga characters starts to pose threat to the real world. Also, both of them are full of mystery. They are also similar in that they both have a sort of realistic art-style.

Lasboss x Hero is a sillier Opus.

Both of those are trippy, convoluted (good way) manga about the mixing of reality and dreams/fiction, with great art to pair it with.
