So, update, I've been following the continuation and I've lost my original hype for it. It's a generic shonen, not bad at all, and I'd still recommend it, but it's really nothing special in terms of the genre. The art, good, the humor and pacing, good as well, but it can't thrive on just that alone, or, it would be very difficult too, and I don't think it meets the standard. Probably going to be a bit harsher in my ratings from here on out, especially since the shonen genre really is overwhelmingly cookie cutter.

So, I'm going to cut this one a little bit of ...

Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi is full of shonen tropes you have seen "a million times over." Shoichi Usui was once an assistant for Eiichiro Oda--the creator of One Piece--and with that comes many similarities with its contemporary. It's easy to find every reason in the book to drop this series. Yet, Kiyoshi has a lot of heart underneath. Usui has taken a lot of inspiration from Oda's writing style--many moments in the series feel very much like something out of One Piece. This is also due to Kiyoshi's story beats reminiscent of manga from the late '90s to the early '00s. It's still very early in ...

The plot is quite simple, a world full of demons and people to kill them - exorcists!
With a fun artstyle, cool designs and loveable characters, this manga has been a lovely read so far

Reading it hasn't been hard as the plot isn't confusing and the pacing is good, the fights aren't dragged out (in fact I wish some were longer) and all the abilities and powers are unique, it's not just your generic elemental battleground. However I wish there was more of a power system to this manga, something like nen from HxH (but maybe it'll be introduced later on like haki in OP?)

The ...

While I don't think Kiyoshi is a bad series, I do have some reservations about reading it. I feel like it's good at what it does, or in its place I can certainly pretend to like it, but that just wouldn’t sit right with me. That said, god, I am so bored with all the Exorcist manga flooding Jump magazine lately! Every new manga that mixes the action and fantasy genres has an exorcist in it except Kagurabachi, and the question readers are asking is: "How many exorcist manga should we handle at once?"😂

All the new mangaka who want to marry the action genre ...

While the art is unique and it has occasional moments of originality, the grand majority of the content feels like a total patchwork of established tropes repeated verbatim. Frankly, even more than the unoriginality, it's the sheer gall to spend so much time on these tropes that's so offensive. I'll occasionally be almost in disbelief seeing pages of windup for some of the most predicatble scenes in manga. A lot of authors have at least some sense of shorthand for these moments that is totally missing here.

The main character isn't much of an exception, but the biggest problem is how often the manga goes out ...
