This is a pretty enjoyable show. I did tire of it a little bit for a few episodes but, it bounced right back for me. It's nothing serious but it's very well produced: great animation, great voice acting, great soundtrack and great pacing. Even though it's a silly show, the story is actually not bad, though it is somewhat predicable as far as romance stuff goes, but, that's just kind of par for the course in romance stuff and since the show is so quirky with it's humor, it's not bland at all. It is one of the few shows I can watch in a
...
different language and still laugh out loud at. Humor is very personal but, I think this show is hilarious. I'm really looking forward to season two and to see how the characters develop as time goes on, and what other stupid characters and gags they're going to introduce to keep me laughing.

The bad ultimately outweighs the good for this anime, hence the score, however, it does have some highlights and, I will be checking out the second season. I don't see me ever rewatching the first season though. It seems like it just wouldn't be very enjoyable and a slog to get through. There were really only a handful of episodes and scenes I really enjoyed. The other stuff annoyed me and was hard to sit through.
The first episode is strange and fast paced, not terrible but, a bit of a disappointment. The season really didn't brighten up until Aira got more involved, but that was
...
also short lived. She quickly became overshadowed by the stupid antics of Momo and Okarun again. Then Jiji shows up but, there's nothing really interesting about him until the last episode.
The animation is really not all that stellar to me. I really don't like this style of fluid motion they got going on, it looks shoddy to me. Other people do seem to love it though. I really like some of the creepy stills they do, but, other than looking pretty cool, they don't add much else to the story.
I think the anime struggles with keeping itself on track. I haven't read the source material so, perhaps the manga is just as bad but, it seems like the story struggles with balancing out a comedic and serious tone. I guess that wouldn't bother me if the comedy actually landed for me, but I can't get over Momo's annoying masculine voice. It's grating for me. Okarun's voice isn't the greatest either but, I've sort of gotten used to it. When Momo isn't being a spaz, her voice is fine, but when she gets excited, I get no enjoyment from her shenanigans. It's a very personal thing though so, some people may really enjoy it.
All in all, I personally didn't find anything to write home about. I don't think the series is without potential but, the first season was not very enjoyable for me. It's quirky though so, I guess to each their own. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody though since I personally didn't enjoy it.

Eh, just saw this today and thought I'd try it out since it's just one chapter and all and sometimes one shots can turn into new series. Not sure if that will happen with this one. It does have the potential to, given the ending so, we'll see, but I was not impressed by it at all. I'm not a huge fan of claymore either. The art is really good in everything except for the character's faces, it seems the artist has not changed too much on that note. It doesn't bother me too much though, I think a good story could pull you through
...
it. But this story just seemed bland and generic to me. It felt like I was reading something that was made by an older teenager or young adult. It's a bit rushed for a one shot to me and nothing really makes me feel anything. The fighting, while interesting, is not something I'd recommend for a one shot. Even in a series, I wouldn't introduce such a complicated fighting style until later in the series. It's too much for a reader to be thrown into in this format. Might work better on a screen as you can really get carried away by the atmosphere. In manga it's a bit more difficult to pull that off. But, it was necessary for the plot so, nothing you can do there. Again, just seems kind of cliche and something a young fantasy lover would really like. I really like the fantasy genre but, it still has to be well thought out and immersive. This did not make me feel much of anything.
I wouldn't recommend this anybody other than younger readers, and even then mostly because of the art. I wouldn't be surprised if people gush at it, but i don't see anything special. It could blossom into something better though, but the first chapter will not be a highlight of the series for me if it does go on to become a series.

So, I'm going to cut this one a little bit of slack since I really did like most of it. I'm actually surprised it's not more popular and I believe when it gets an anime adaptation, it will probably blow up. It already reads like it's perfect for adaptation. It's very streamlined without much filler and moves at a good pace, not too fast, but not too slow either. It really works well for it's tone, which is more comedic than serious.
The first chapter was not great, and this may be a big reason why it's not too popular. It of course suffers from being
...
too formulaic and to the point, trying to establish so much in one chapter, instead of just easing you into an interesting story. This is pretty much all of shonen jump at this point. Everything is info dump on the first chapter so, nothing new there. But it bounced right back in chapter two.
Interestingly, it has a lot comedy, almost as if it's a gag manga and not a battle manga, and that's probably what I appreciate about it the most: it's genuinely funny. But, it does have some more wholesome moments that are really not too bad. I think the main character is a nice change of pace; he actually feels original, which isn't something I encounter very often in a battle shonen manga.
The art might be the best thing about this manga. Not only is the style super sharp and everything looks really clean, but I find that the paneling, and the expressions are really well done too. Everything is fluid and easy to follow and gives you a feeling, little to nothing is bland or wasted.
Of course, this manga is not perfect, hence why I said I am cutting it a bit of slack, as there are some points that come off a bit cliche to me but, they really were few and far in between. I actually haven't read a manga as quickly as I read this one in some time. Not that there's a lot of chapters but, it was pretty enjoyable. The latest chapters are getting a bit too formulaic for me, getting into generic plot lines seen in these kinds of series so, I'm not too thrilled about that as I don't see a ton of potential for this series to go too far with that but, we'll see.
So yeah, so far, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone getting into manga, or who likes battle shonens. I think even older people like myself might find this a bit refreshing in terms of a new manga that's in the battle shonen genre.

I was actually able to finish this longer manga which, says something about it's appeal. First off, the art is amazing, definitely a highlight. The story, meanders a bit. Starts off really good, kind of takes a dip with it killing off some of the better characters and being a bit repetitive. The ending, is fairly satisfying, though I was hoping for a bit more. All in all, it's a flawed manga with some highlights that are pretty notable. I think it's a pretty divisive manga, as some people will love, and others will hate it, and of course you'll have people like me who
...
are a bit more in between. I can't think of much else to say about it other than, I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it or anything, but I'd try and give it a reread. It's good and mature, more for young adults, but younger men may like it too since it is pretty flashy in it's art and appealing aesthetically.

Well, I guess it was good enough for me to finish. The art is fine, good, nothing special but better than a lot of other stuff. The story itself, is a bit of a bumpy ride. It starts out very fast, and appears like it's going to be interesting, but then it sort of falls off and wanders for most of the rest of the series. I found that once the end was approaching, I was once again interested to see where the story was going to go. I think the mystery of the whole thing is it's biggest ally and will more than likely
...
get you through the story. Be warned though, the ending is not well liked by a lot of people and, though I actually did like it, I'm in the minority I believe. It's one of those quirky endings that can be common in mysteries that leave a lot of people divided on whether the ride was really worth it. I'm not sure the ride was worth it, I just appreciated it the ending for what it was. I think it suited such a negative story. That also made it difficult to read at times. It's pretty dark, almost too dark without enough hope to keep you wanting to continue, so that can be a slug fest at times. It's an interesting concept, though I think it could have been done a bit better. Wouldn't purchase it as of now, maybe a reread would impress me more. I'm not going to full on recommend it, but I'd say it's safe to check it out and see what all the hype is about. It's also going to be for more mature readers I think. Younger readers will probably have a hard time staying engaged. A bit like Monster, a slow burn with a lot psychology that younger adults will find really interesting as they are finding themselves in their own lives and beginning to ask bigger questions about life, people, etc.

I'm not sure how many chapters I was able to get through but, I just couldn't keep going with it. I've watched the anime and skipped around in the manga enough to know generally where the story goes, but, I can't get past the art, it's terrible, and it never gets better. The story, while not terrible, is not terribly interesting either, only, if it had the right art style, I could at least give it a read. It reminds me a lot of Bleach in its tone which, I like, although, it's already been done so, I wouldn't give it much praise just for
...
being a Bleach, yokai knockoff. It just reeks of all the other shonens out there these days, which is sad. It's like there's no originality anymore. And even if that's the case, there's ways to put good spins on these sorts of stories, but they always all start out the same. It's like they just finished reading all their favorite shonens and then started their story, so all they're doing is recreating everything that everyone has already read. It's the typical athletically gifted boy who's had a difficult life but is really stoic about everything, introduce his crazy teacher and two quirky friends, one of them morose, the other chipper. I mean, it does put some spins on these tropes, making it the authors own unique creation but, it doesn't feel unique enough to really get excited about. Again though, if it had better art, who knows, maybe I'd love it, but I just can't get past that, it's such a big part of manga. It's so messy at times it's hard to even understand what is going on. It presents no visual beauty, in the characters, backgrounds, or any dynamic movements from the characters. It's like one mess blob of a work. I hope this author can maybe take some time to get better at his technique before going into another series, if he chooses to do so.

Not sure if a four is right or if I'll change it but, my opinion of this manga is, it sucks. It's completely overrated. I really don't understand how anyone could enjoy it. It makes me nauseous just looking at it. The art is terrible and, unfortunately, even the best story couldn't make up for that, however, the story itself is not even that good. It reads like something someone in middle school wrote. The gun devil? Chainsaw man? Is it supposed to be some satire of superheroes? Cause it's not nearly good enough or funny enough to work as that either. I was not
...
able to finish it, though I know how it ends. I've tried rereading it and fail every time. The story just fails to captivate me, and the art certainly doesn't help. The manga seems like something that's edgy just to be edgy, like it's trying too hard to be different without any of the genius that actually makes manga like that good. I will say that, peaking at part two of the manga, the art is considerably better, almost like night and day. It has the same style which I'm not overly fond of but, adds more too it's background and just looks cleaner and more appealing to the eyes. May give that a try and see if the story has improved at all. Maybe it will give me enough energy to read the first part again and see if I can alter the score. I'm guessing the new generation of manga readers are who like this stuff because this, and JJK, are pretty much unreadable for me. I have seen some quirky art but, this is just plain bad. They need to take more time to finish their chapters, because I'm sure they can draw much better, but the end product just looks completely rushed. HxH has better art, and for the record, I do enjoy that manga so... it's not impossible to make something with messier art good. Dorohedoro is good too but, it just flows better than Chainsaw man and JJK. They are like every other shonen, only they skimped on the art. What's there to get excited about?

Short but sweet, it's a good manga that you can recommend to just about anyone. Not nearly as dark as Asano's Punpun, but not without its hardships either. I particularly liked the ending of the manga, with the buildup just being so-so for me. Probably need to reread it but, since it's so short, it's not a huge investment either. The plot reminds me a bit of the overall point of Metamorphosis by Kafka, just without all the surrealness of turning into a beetle overnight. I won't spoil either of those stories, though Kafka is not a favorite of mine, Asano does seem to always
...
deliver with his art. Beautiful in the story as well, only, I'm not crazy about the faces of his characters in comparison to Punpun, which had a more realistic feel. There is a bit of that humor in this story as well, which is nice to see, though it takes a backseat for the most part. The inner musings of the characters were a bit tedious for me, but not terrible. And that's all I can think of. I'd definitely give it a read. Nice little slice of life with some seriousness, but an overall happy ending.

Been a while since I've seen it, I may try and watch it again, which bodes in its favor. I didn't like it the first time I watched it, but I watched it in the english dub. The Elric brothers come off as whiney in that version. Japanese sub is superior in my opinion, which is how I watched it the second time, however, I still didn't really feel the appeal of this show until the very end. I think the final villain and his motivation, was the most interesting part of the story for me. That and the other world thing going on with
...
the brothers. That was pretty neat. Mustang would probably be my favorite character, with Envy being my favorite villain. In fact, it's almost sort of strange how many of the sins didn't really make a big impression on me. Lust by far was the most useless one. Really just seemed to be there to have one hot girl in the series. There are a lot of different things going on with this show, which might interest other viewers, but didn't really interest me. I don't think I'd necessarily recommend it to anybody, though any anime fan should give it a watch. Though I do believe it to be overrated in my estimation.
