Synopsis

One day, while rushing to a piano lesson, a girl named Saki collides with someone on the street. As Saki collects herself, the stranger picks up the sheet music Saki dropped, hands it to Saki together with a band-aid, and continues on her way—all without saying a word. Saki is left wondering about the identity of the tall, lovely stranger, only to discover the next day that she is one of her classmates at her new high school. The girl's name is Kanon, and though she is hearing impaired, she refuses any kind of support or "special treatment" from her teachers or classmates. Over the course of the year, Saki slowly grows closer to Kanon and begins to chip away at her cold exterior.

The best way I can describe this is "A silent voice" meets "From now on we begin ethics."

It's about this girl who's somewhat deaf and her friend and their relationship as they spend more time together and learn about each other.

What I like about this manga is that it does such a good job of showing the hardships of being deaf while also talking about how we could improve on that. It's not just a plot device to make us feel sorry for the lead, it's just a way of saying "that's the kind of life she lives."

The cast of characters is very likable and ...

first off, this is a yuri or girls love, but not to any extreme extent. as the synopsis suggests, one of the girl named kanon is deaf, and she is "paired" with saki. if this is just the usual yuri, I wouldn't go as far as read it let alone write a review. what makes this series is so special is that it tackles the problem of disability, and showing how the person struggles by having that. perhaps there are some culture problems involved with some of the problems, but nonetheless shows how fragile the society is by just having 1 disabled person in one ...

Spoiler
The main thing for me with this manga was how fast the story was progressing and it felt like never really committed to its subject matter. It's very bizarre in a lot of ways, how at the same time it tries desperately to find ways to mitigate the disability of the main lead (she can fully speak, has a special outfitted room so she can hear, is perfect at reading lips), but also introduce problems in how her disability affects her life that seem entirely arbitrary. Like the fact she has to "read the bus display" to know when to get out (which I think ...
