I read this one on a whim without expecting much, but this turned out to be a lot better than the premise would have you believe. This idea of a high school girl becoming a sex worker in an isekai setting seems rife for gratuitous objectification and unhealthy "romance," but the story is way more balanced than I expected. This probably has to do with how the original light novel is geared towards a female audience, so there's no gross glamorizing when it comes to sex work.
Haru, the protagonist, isn't a blushing naive klutz, but she isn't some dominatrix puppetmaster either. The story does a

Absolutely do not read this if you are sensitive to dark topics. This is the darkest, most vile, most disgusting thing I think I've ever read, And it amazes me how much it does so. I felt sick to my stomach, and I don't want to ever feel that way again, but I do have to commend the utter dread it makes me feel. I was unsure of what to rate it, and considered rating it a 10/10 due to how disgustingly brutal it was, but decided against it because this is by no means a masterpiece. I do think I have learned multiple things

This is really good. I've read a decent amount of isekais, a decent amount of ecchis and honestly this has a mix of everything and works really well altogether. There is an unexpected level of depth, the setting is realistic, the depiction of prostitution is amazingly well done, pokes fun at usual isekai tropes and Im here for it. just go read it, it's short, it's great, it has a few sex scenes but I think if anything, it adds a lot to the realism and the overall story. Makes no sense why it's rated so low. Oh and we love a proper female protagonist,

If you want me to summarize what reading JK Haru was like, imagine a fat, balding, and ugly middle-aged male feminist telling you - a man in his late teens or early twenties - that you're a worthless, misogynistic pig who no woman will ever love... in a fat, balding, middle-aged man's impression of a valley girl accent.
Now picture that soyboy poorly dressed as an anime schoolgirl in a paper-thin attempt to convince you he speaks for all women. There are no photos of Ko Hiratori online but I bet my ass I've got my description down to a T. How do I even begin ... Apr 13, 2023
Funnily enough I saw this title in a joke TikTok and it seemed strangely interesting as a concept since the usual isekai is just a plain old power fantasy.
Haru becomes a sex worker because the world she was Truck-kun-ed into might have magic and whatnot but it has very similar gender politics to the medieval period of our world. Namely, unaccompanied women have little to no rights, little to no options for work, and it's ultimately very dangerous to live there as a woman. With nowhere to go and no real skills of use in a fantasy world, and no cheat abilities like those given ... Aug 7, 2023
triggers: rape, death, lots of abuse.
Plot FMC (our female lead) and a male otaku classmate get isekai-ed. FMC voluntarily starts working at a brothel. The rest is the story of her daily prostitute life in a very VERY patriarchal world. Roughly 80% of the story is just abuse of MC and her fellow workers. This is glorified tragedy porn at best. Review First, you should know that the target audience is probably Feminazis. This show has a strong agenda, which it forces down your throat using extreme and violent circumstances. 1. Every female character is super nice and basically an angel. 2. Every male character is a ... May 16, 2023
It's a manga that's not easy to recommend, dealing with some topics and characters being written in a way that is extremely controversial, even at times biased. But despite all of that, for an isekai, I believe this to be one of the most unique ones, not much on the story front - but more as a character study.
FYI: There might be changes to the review, seeing as it's starting to build up to something. So for now, take this review with a pinch of salt. Story: 6/10 A misogynistic/sexist fantasy world, where women can't even register to a guild for adventuring, and women are treated worse ... Sep 14, 2024
To be so brief, as not to include spoilers, I have mixed feelings about this Isekai despite giving it such a high rating.
For the most part, I'd say I would not recommend this story for anyone looking for fantasy elements within a fantasy world, as this story relies heavily on realism and the rawness of humankind in it's most deprecating form. Yet somehow, I found that unapologetic "rawness" to be entertaining. As I'd seen from another user's review, this story is definitely an implication of a more realistic approach to the misogynistic, self insert, fantasies that are often found prevalent in the Isekai genre. The characters ... Sep 21, 2024
This manga is rare, at least from my own experience of the isekai genre. It tackles the setting without tropes and in a serious way. Comedy is present, dark comedy it is, and in a way that some people may find it disgusting (for a lack of a better word) or just plain weird at best. The story sure is full of monologue, but that's okay because we get to know the thoughts of the characters, especially the protagonist. The pacing of the plot is slow and steady, with the protagonist getting accustomed with the new world she was in bit by bit, giving

I now know how people who didn't like Poor Things felt about it.
There are some good ideas in this story, but the execution wasn't there. Sexism, prostitution and how isekai stories treat women are all interesting things so I was expecting so much from it, but most of the time it failed to deliver. The comedy didn't work for me and so many characters felt underdeveloped, they could've done so much more with them and it is a shame we never got to see that. Still I would recommend it to people who like to take stories apart and think about what worked and what ... Apr 19, 2024
It makes no sense at all.
If it's trying to criticize isekai settings, then why does its setting barely resemble any isekai out there? I can't name a single isekai which actually goes out of its way to glorify what you're talking about. "pinpoint-accurate" my ass. So instead it creates a nonsensically dystopic Handmaids Tale-esque shithole and says "See... This - is what the average isekai setting totally looks like. Look what those losers want to live in! Tee-hee-hee! It would be sooooo awful for women to live there, riiiight????" Really? Then name me a single isekai setting which actively prohibits women from being adventurers or in positions ... I started reading this manga because I saw a recommendation for it few times on different forums - saying it's more than the description tells, has an interesting mature story etc... well let me tell you it's not. It's sh*t... dog tier SH*T.
Story starts with our MC girl transported to another world and the very first thing she does is... Tries to learn about this new world? Nope. Tries to look for a way to return home? Nope. Stick with a person she knows from her original world who got transported with her? Nope. She went to a brothel to the people she knows ... |
