My impression of the anime is not that good and I come to read the manga without a slightest bit of good expectation beforehand beside cheap reasons like "The Girl is Cute". I love Senryuu Shoujo. Out of all the manga I've currently ever read, Senryuu Shoujo comes out on top with a solid 10/10. This is what I want, a rom-com with little to no forced drama, an extremely cute couple, and a fantastic art style. The story may seem to be a long burn to others, but to me, it feels like their endurance of love.

The story itself comes to be as straight-forward and simple as it gets. Nanako, a girl who has trouble communicating normally and uses Senryuu, a form of Haiku, to ... talk to people. And Eiji, an ex-delinquent who is looking for people to simply talk to. Everyone fears him except Nanako, who kindly approaches him and there begins their long-winded journey of love. The journey is an extremely long one, stretching over 140 chapters before the actual romance plots actually come into play. Not that it didn’t before, just not as focused. Every chapter just feels like a ball of fluff and cuteness, tugging on your heartstrings and making you want more of it, which they deliver a solid 185 chapters of it. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.

As for art goes, Igarashi-sensei has come a long way with his art to be frankly honest. The first few chapters of Senryuu Shoujo has good art, but nothing compared to the final few chapters. The progression and improvement of his art style just led me to appreciate the manga even more, and also shows that Igarashi really enjoyed drawing for the manga. The cover arts are something I could literally hang up on my wall and be proud to show to all my weebs. You can argue and say artists such as Murata or Araki can do better, but come on here, for a rom-com this is one of the best we can get.

Eiji x Nanako has to be the cutest couple ever, like no jokes. The series could have ended in let’s say 50 chapters but it’s because it’s this long is what caused such bonds to happen. Their day-to-day conversations with each other are literally the definition of melting, and the development that grows within these characters is great and worth applauding. Other characters such as Amane, Kino, Tao, and even Koto chip in into the interactions just to make them that much more interesting. There’s this sense of naturalism placed into the series when it’s not just about both of them, but many things are happening to each of the characters. And Igarashi manages to develop all of them to a point where we can appreciate and understand what the characters are doing. They are given a personality, not a script. That’s what I felt really stood Senryuu Shoujo out from many other rom-com, personality, and liveliness.

On the whole, Senryuu Shoujo to me is a masterpiece. Calling this the epitome of rom-com would just be my own personal opinion since I’m sure others can disagree with me. But, what I can say is, it’s cute, the romance is simply endearing, and it’s got itself a 10/10 from me. If you’re looking for this kind of thing, believe me, you have come to the right place as Senryuu Shoujo will fill up your needs as you please.

It is difficult to find entertainment that follow a structured routine and manages to remain fresh and entertaining after extended periods of time. Senryuu Shoujo is an exception that is constituted in a simple manner and still manages to impact the reader powerfully, which results in a perfect read to relax. During the initial viewing of the anime, the anime featured one-dimensional characters with some graceful moments. The manga offers a higher quality despite its equally simple design.

The story essentially revolves around the daily life of high schoolers who are partaking in events occurring in their "Lit Club". The story is the weak link because ... the aim of the work is not to convey a compelling story. Events that are prevalent in the work accomplishes its goal of constituting heartwarming emotions and a feeling of fluffiness. Senryuu Shoujo lacks progression during the majority of its run but manages to cover its flaw with interactions among the characters. In contrary to first impressions, despite the time required, development is existent. The earlier is confirmed by making a comparison to the vibes the work exudes during later chapters, compared to the first.

The characters stand out in this work more than many others. The author has a tendency to introduce characters that add to the abundance of the existing cast. The strength of this work is how new characters receive development to make them unique and feel no less than previously existing characters. It's difficult to describe how much characters fit in the show after their debut because of the manner they are relevant to the chapters. In most cases, new characters appear for a few chapters, receive minor development and have their existence are almost retracted as their presence becomes ceased.

In Senryuu Shoujo, characters who make their debut remain relevant for the rest of the ride. Their appearance is inevitable and they don't feel one-dimensional. It feels empty without them and chapters depicting bits of their daily lives are entertaining because of an emotion of wanting to know how their lives unfold.

In spite of the excellent development the characters receive and the relevance to the story they carry, there are certain flaws regarding them that need to be addressed. The weight of the development is not evenly distributed, resulting in a few underdeveloped characters. This flaw is not that empowering because those characters receive scant developement and still exude the vibe of pertaining to the main cast.

The first change that was recognized from an anime watcher is the improvement in the artstyle. The characters look more beautiful and accurately match the depictions exclaimed by characters in the anime show. Nanako is considered to be a beauty but the anime does not do that claim justice as her design is mediocre, leading to a contradiction. In contrast to the anime, the manga manages to present excellent looking characters and even offers artwork of aforementioned characters at the start of every chapter.

Senryuu Shoujo is an excellent source of entertainment for individuals who are interested in experiencing heartwarming emotions regularly without major signs of becoming repetitive. Regardless of a simple narrative, the work consistently succeeds to shape heartwarming moments through the means of simplistic measures. The entertainment value in Senryuu Shoujo is high and has a possibility to compel you into binge reading it.

One of the best slice of life mangas that I read. The story isn't really the main selling point of the manga but it was good. The art frequently reaches peak quality especially in the later chapters and it quite honestly made me tear up a little during the big moments. What's not to love here?

It's by no means not a masterpiece but at least it's at least unique. The description doesn't lie, the main character literally communicates mostly in haiku (feel free to count). As for plot, I'm not sure what to make of it as it feels like it's stagnant or slow at times (as of this moment). i've never reviewed a manga before but this is the first because its just that good and enjoyable

im gonna start of with the writing in my personal opinion is somewhat drawn out quite abit but some other manga may but quite a boring and disconnected from the content of the ongoing story but senryuu shoujo filled the filler chapters with something magical in my personal opinion

cute, drama free SOL rom-com. I like how the author mixes up 4koma with the more traditional manga format, depending on the scenes, since I'm generally now a huge fan of 4koma manga.

There are indeed similarities to komi-san, and even goes a bit into harem territory, which was pretty much pointless here. But in comparison to komi-san, which kind of lost its identity and recently does not know what it wants to be (gag manga?), this manga kept its flavors. The story follows a girl who only writes in senryuu (basically haikus) and a guy who looks and acts like a delinquent that are in the literature club together at school. tl;dr: A manga that has a senryu related gimmick, but more importantly has a pretty strong main couple and hilarious side characters.

As shouldn’t be particularly surprising, Senryuu Shoujo is a manga about a girl named Nanako that can only communicate through senryu. Senryu’s are a lot like haiku in that they follow a 5-7-5 structure, and though there are technically differences they’re irrelevant as far as this manga is concerned so I won’t bother getting into them. Only being able to communicate through senryu is somewhat of a ridiculous concept, however it’s integrated quite cleanly into the manga itself and for the most part it’s ... just a background gimmick in that one character’s dialogue is always in senryu. The gimmick definitely adds to Nanako’s character and gives her a certain atmosphere that works very well with her story and it does pop up as actually relevant to the plot from time to time, but for the most part Nanako’s communication method, or rather Senryu in general, aren’t that important.

Thus, ultimately this is a really fluffy rom-com 4koma. Nanako’s love interest is a boy named Eiji, a former delinquent that fell in love with senryu and joined the literature club, though it’s more of a ‘just hanging out’ club really after the beginning. The two are clearly in love with each other from the beginning though they don’t actually start going out until the end. Despite that, this isn’t really frustrating at all since it they’re pretty much already dating anyway. It’s already firmly established that they’re in love and they’ll officially go out eventually. It’s ultimately just a matter of timing. But despite that they’re basically still going on dates and slowly getting closer to each other with all the wholesomeness and fluff that ensues. Thus, even if they’re lacking the formality of having confessed to each other and what not, they still have a pretty cute dynamic going and are fun characters so it’s enjoyable to read about them anyway.

There’s a large number of other characters, and a few also have relationship development. This was really messy in that this was mostly other girls also being in love with Eiji, and thus it was clear from the beginning how things would end. It’s not impossible to write good stories with such a context, but out of three tries this manga only managed to pull it off once. That success, Koto’s graduation arc, was written incredibly well and hit some really strong emotional beats. It went through what it needed to in a pretty well paced manner and felt like it had a solid resolution. The other two failed in that they were rushed to completion alongside the arc where Nanako and Eiji finally start officially going out. The intermixing of plot threads there resulted in bad pacing that hampered everything and resulted in unfocused drama that really didn’t feel like it fit the manga well, and ultimately made what should have been an incredibly strong arc pretty meandering. One of the heroines had so little presence that it probably would have been better to just not give her a relationship arc at all. However, the other, Komachi, had the potential to have an arc just as strong as Koto’s if it was given room to breathe and not rushed so it was disappointing how that turned out.

With all that said this is technically a 4koma. I say technically because towards the later portions it felt like it wasn’t more than it was. Still, as you would expect from a 4koma, comedy is just as important if not more important than the drama. And in that the manga also does quite well. The cast overall is full of larger than life personalities that interact with each other in incredibly humorous ways. There’s a bit of character and development and such here and there, though not much to be honest. Still, the cast is very likable solely based on how humorous they are. The MVP in this regard is Amane, the literature club president, who is so lame she’s awesome. She even gets her own relationship arc that’s also completely devoid of any drama, fluff, or romance at all really, in favor of being just a string of comedic events. Thus, it’s easy to get invested in the cast and the manga uses that investment pretty well for a pretty solid, though pretty generic, ending and epilogue that was pretty satisfying.

I would also like to note that artist is incredibly skilled. That skill doesn’t really show up for a lot of the manga because it’s a 4koma and there simply isn’t much room to do all that much in such small panels and furthermore the setting isn’t particularly exciting from a visual point of view either. However, in things like the color pages, the covers for each chapter, and places where the manga breaks from being a 4koma, it just straight up felt like the artist was flexing because the art was so good it felt kind of out of place. Also, while there isn’t much of a focus on Senryu beyond one of the main character’s dialogue all being in Senryu, one of the main character’s dialogue is still in Senryu, so kudos to the translators that actually pulled keeping 5-7-5 for all her lines.

Senryuu Shoujo has a simple premise. Meet the main heroine of this manga, Yukishiro Nanako. She doesn't communicate through spoken words, but with 5-7-5 styled senryuu written on tanzaku. Sounds like a ridiculous gimmick, but it really isn't. Senryuu Shoujo is your average sweet slice of life romcom, with almost zero drama. And it somehow works without being too generic.

Senryuu Shoujo's story isn't really that in-depth. Nanako likes her classmate Busujima Eiji, who is a misunderstood former delinquent. Nanako and Eiji are members of the Literature Club that is hosted by high school novelist Katagiri Amane (also known as Prez). Most of these chapters focus ... on these three interacting with each other, to the point that Literature Club becomes more like a hang out place than a club about literature. In fact, Amane, tries her hardest to get Nanako and Eiji together, as they can't stop being cute together. Eiji also develops feelings towards Nanako later on (even if it is suggested that Eiji has had feelings since they met).

Manga's chapters run in 4-koma style that are used to deliver jokes almost everytime. Senryuu Shoujo's humor is pretty decent though so I actually didn't mind reused comedy as much as I would had on other manga/anime. However, after 130 chapters, it is pretty clear that this manga lasted for too long. Later chapters focus more on other characters, as Nanako's and Eiji's relationship stays as status quo for the longest time, and while that isn't a bad thing, I felt like I was just reading filler, wholesome filler at that, but still filler.

When it comes to other characters than our main three, we have:
- Kino, member of the art club, who also doesn't speak, but instead communicates through her drawings.
- Tao, fortune teller who always gets her predictions correct. She is close friend's with Kino.
- Koto, Eiji's third-year sister-figure. She likes to tease people around her, but 'as expected of sister-figure characters', she has feelings towards Eiji.

Then there are Komachi and Iori that are introduced as love rivals to Nanako. But thankfully like I said, there is no drama over love in this manga, outside of maybe 1-2 chapters. And obviously, who could forget always clumsy Kura-sensei.

Overall decent side characters. They all stick around till the end and almost all of them have closing arcs so the story rounds up pretty nicely at the end.

Senryuu Shoujo's art is also really good and consistent in quality from start to finish. The artist is really talented at drawing cutesy characters. Every chapter also has an opening page detailed illustration (usually features Nanako). I personally wasn't a fan of huge smiling mouths, but obviously that is just a preference.

Overall, Senryuu Shoujo is a good-looking and heart-warming manga that is worth a shot. It isn't anything ground-breaking so you aren't missing out on anything if you decide to skip this one. But if you want to have something simple to read every night, I can recommend it.
