What the heck man?!

I thought this short was going to be pretty entertaining (maybe even kind of deep) to watch, like other short titles that are out there. Man was this boring though, all she did was chase that guy repeatedly uttering out the same word over and over again. And the animation on it kind of reminded me of the old Sesame Street shorts...only without the number counting thing.

Overall, a very repetitive title to watch. It did say it was an experimental short, so I guess we have to take that into account.

It was flipping creepy but I believe the message overall was about a man who kept saying to the woman, "I LOVE YOU", but kept cheating on her or avoiding her of some sorts and thus his words did not mean much. However, the women fell in love with him too deeply and became clingy and as the time goes by she tries to do many things to him so that they could become a couple. Unfortunately, she begins to lose ideas and she comes up with the idea of hitting over the head, so that he can be brain damage, which he is at the end............its a really creepy and sad story.

Another interpretation could be that she scared him sooo much that he became submissive to her but that sounds weird........I like the first interpretation better. =)

I liked it at first for some reason, but it gets repetitve.
Should've been 2 minutes instead of 4.

This was indeed creepy. I thought they were complaining about pain instead of saying ‘I love you’. And if this is love, I don’t want to experiment it.

I shouldn’t had watched this at night.
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

I get where he's coming from. I feel the same, really. People who are infatuated with someone tend to be very abusive towards that person. People misunderstand the concept of love, and when they love somoene, they just ask or rather demand too much out of that person. In other words, for most people, especially the younger ones saying "I love you" equals "I want to own you".

This movie deliberately plays with the similar pronounciation of love and pain. It's tragic that love can turn out so negatively and eventually lead to an unhealthy relationship.

I thought this was semi-interesting. Seemed to me it was about ritual courtship at first, but then the male character wanted to get away from the female character because she started to become too clingy. She has other plans , however and pursues the male never letting him go for long at any long amount of time, eventually making him totally subservient to her. The short then shifts to a theme at the end where the relationship is obviously only benefitting one party and making the other miserable. Not a bad film, but nothing great. 6/10
Every minute you are thinking of evil, you might have been thinking of good instead. Refuse to pander to a morbid interest in your own misdeeds. Pick yourself up, be sorry, shake yourself, and go on again.

I liked it better than the Human Zoo, I think this did a bit better job telling a story. I too think that the story was a progression from crush (as shown by the woman hiding behind a tree) to her becoming obsessed and causing the guy harm and ending up in a bed.

Quite creepy, but the episode as a whole seems to have a bigger meaning about love.

The lady was probably Yandere for the short guy. Jk. XD

Thank you. I was getting scared that not even ONE person understood the meaning, deep, amazing, mind-blowing meaning behind this work.
How love shyly appears on his side, then as he steps back, she goes after him, pursues him, wanting to train him to love her.
When she gets depressed, his guilty conscience makes him get closer, ending up in him being owned - in bed - and giving up, being submissive.
He has no voice. He won't say he loves her.
He is a shadow of who he was, and she is surprised, wondering why won't he react. Why won't he say he loves her. And trying to "fix him" (supposedly...yet all she does is train him to do what she would like to have, as a relationship)

To all you youngsters, this movie is from 1963. Probably older than your parents. Most likely, as old as your grandparents.
You are not mature enough to SEE (truly see. Not "Look at".) anything that isn't shiny, new, easy, or that smells like pizza. Just move along. I'm ashamed of your generation. Deeply.

I understand the meaning of this work and still disliked it. Just because it touches on an interesting subject doesn't mean it portrays it well.

That was creepy on too many levels.
I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes.

Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that.
It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers.

Okay first let's see what I understood :
The woman is looking for love, the man too. The woman is so desperate she is ready to literally capture the man, while the man is looking for love but doesn't waant to be with just anyone. He doesn't want to be with her. At the end she still manages to catch and keep him and the man ultimately fell for her and does everything she wants.
I guess it is supposed to represent how far people desperate for love are ready to go, with the woman being completely obsessed and the man being the woman's puppy.
It's quite a pessimistic view of love and while it is definitely accurate when it comes to some people, it's fortunately not the majority.
I've seen a review saying that if we don't grasp the concept of abstract, we'd better not rate this ova, and I disagree. I'm not at all an expert when it comes to abstract but I think I understand enough and I believe that abstract doesn't necessarily equal good, far from it (that's actually one of the issues I have with abstract art : it's like we're supposed to like everything just because it's the artist's view and there is something "profound", even when it is objectively appalling).
In Ai's case, it's not awful but I can't say that it's "good". It's singular, but not good. I actually have a lot of issues with this ova, both from an artistic point of view and a metaphorical point of view.
I give it a 4 because it's just not good in my opinion. It's not awful, but it's not well done either. There is so much better out there, abstract shows with actual work into it.

this isn't what i expected it to be (i first thought of it to be gore or something similar like that but no) for the whole time i was watching, my mind was clouded of how creepy stalking is irl; forgetting to analyze the whole concept of the film. so i don't have a high regard for this.

'tis the first time i watched kuri's work.

Edit: I decided to rewatch this and, bitterly, the depiction of love in this film is abusive and claustrophobic. as the cliché phrase goes: "love makes someone crazy" was pointed out here. the one-sided chase and domination as a bold misogynistic portrayal of superiority was shown as the motive in making this. the eerie sound and repetition of the word 'ai' is what makes this movie disturbing (and interesting!); the tempo, dynamics and such. because without it, this would have been a bit of a waste.
