Hmm, damn pretty awesome.
I wonder if he's planning to make it a legend of classics like DBZ.

I just looked at the link and... meh, to be honest I'm thinking "no wonder it looks bad, its a collaboration with another creator!"

Never thought he would start another series. Dragon Ball was my first manga, the nostalgia is coming back right now.

Hypestorm is coming... I'm really surprised though. It takes a lo of courage or conceit to try something new after such huge success. On the other hand, it has been so long since DB and people now have such short attention span and memory probably most of his new readers never seen DB.

Holy shit am I hyped...

But the only series I've enjoyed of his Was Dragon Ball itself
All the one shots he publishes in Jump aren't all that great IMO.

Ehhh?
Dragon Ball is still the second most popular Manga in Japan.

Nobodies forgotten it.

And Toriyama publishes works in Shounen Jump all the time. It's not like he's been gone since the end of Dragon Ball.
He's had 30 seperate Manga serialized in Shounen Jump since the year Dragon Ball started, 1984.

He's doing this for Jump's 45th anniversary...
Everyone in Japan knows his name :|.

Anything done in his art style would end up looking something along those lines.

That only counts to normal manga and anime. Not a legend such as Dragon Ball.

Surely you Jest

Most of Toriyama's Manga are hardly even one shots.
And he's only about 4 years older than Togashi of Hunter x Hunter and Miura of Berserk.

I'll read it, but I have no expectations. In fact from that scan I can honestly say I'm anticipating both the other series more.

I obviously liked Dragon Ball, but I don't think his style is suited for the current shounen genre. In trying to adapt to the current trends of the genre, his work will most likely come across as average or a bit better than average at best.

That's just my opinion and I'd love to be wrong on this so that I could read something good.

I can't imagine it being anything more than 50 chapters. The guy has way too much on his plate with Dragon Quest stuff alone to do a weekly series.

Generic Battle Shounen 1 and 2.
I can almost guarantee you they'll both be axed within the first 30 chapters.

They don't have Mal pages yet so I can't really help.

Yeah it might be a short mini-series kinda thing. Hope it goes on for at least 20 chapters. But whatever it is....it might be interesting.

I was going to say "Isn't he a little too old to star another manga?" But then I searched for his age and he's really not that old... Well I'm not hyped though, manga and anime has changed a lot since the days DB was released, unless he has changed too, he won't get much of a steady fanbase appart from fanboys.

Toriyama's first serialization, Dr. Slump, was a huge success: TV Show, multiple movies and tie ins. Not as big as DB of course, but Arale chan is still known in Japan and throughout Asia 30 years after it ended. So he knows how to follow up a success with another. If anything, Arale shows that Toriyama is a better writer than one would think from just following DB.

Arale never made it as big in the US because its older, was a spoof comedy, had too much crude humor, and is very Japanesque.

Never read DBZ, but this does seem pretty exciting considering how popular that series was.

I wish him luck.

And I guess with so many big manga ending....it's cool to see some new ones start up by popular mangaka.

It's unknown yet. Jump Live is the new manga magazine from Jump and it's specific for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices via an app. It starts in August 2013. The periodicity seems monthly. The author list:
Amano Akira (Katekyou Hitman Reborn)
Konomi Takeshi (Prince of Tennis)
Ishida Sui (Tokyo Ghoul)
Yabuki Kentarou (To LoveRu)
Shiihashi Hiroshi (Nurarihyon no Mago)
Ooishi Kouji (Inumaru Dashi)
Kamo Makoto (Gekikara! Curry Ouji)
Komori Youichi with Taoka Muneaki and Sugie Tsubasa (Umizaru) (Tokkyuu!!)
Suzuki Shinya (Mr. Fullswing)
Nishi Yoshiyuki (Muhyo to Rouji no Mahouritsu Soudan Jimusho)
Hirakata Masahiro (Shimai Fukei Kiruko-san)
Fukushima Tetsubei (Samurai Usagi)
Mira Tadahiro (Koisome Momiji)
