I have no gripes with the animation as well but what made the series suffer is the "story progression" it seemed like S3 was just crammed into your brain all at once. Had they made a previous season that explained more bout the other flame haze's and developed the characters more per say like in season 1 and 2, season 3 would of been amazing. Because it lacked that type of development, you really couldn't find your self getting attached to the new characters introduced in season 3 and some of the new concepts behind the shana universe were not fully explained, and imo that is what really killed the experience for me personally.
The studio should of produced another season and then maybe season 4 would be the finale. Or they could of done a better job exploring season 4 but you saw how much content that had to cover, i mean it was hard to really take the time to develop all the new denizens and flame haze's their was just way to many characters and the plot had to keep on moving. It kind of reminds me how they took like 14 volumes of the manga of inuyasha and cram packed it into the last 26 episodes. But in the case of inuyasha is a much more generic story and alot of one dimensional characters so they managed to pull it off. But shana has a far more sophisticated story and characters then inuyasha does.
Bottom line is they ended up having to rush and compact everything into season 3 to get it finished.
That sounds like something similar to 12 kingdoms novels or Seirei no Moribito. It really has my interest. Don't want to talk to much bout it though, i want to be surprised. Hopefully their is alot of nice plot twists and good character developing in the series and manga.
When it comes down to watching anime, thats mainly the two things i watch anime for the character building and the core story. I guess you can say sound would probably be third, but its also important to depict good sound tracks, so when they show a dramatic moment or action, it sets the mood of the series especially during emotional parts. Animation is probably last for me. I could watch something that does not have eye candy, it could be something very classical, but as long as an interesting setting, world, building of characters and great focused story, then it will entertain me.
Btw i wanted to comment on your list, that CSS design is amazing, where did you get that code at, or did you create it your self. I would love to use that CSS template. lol
I like how you said it gets darker, that intrigues me for sure. I can't wait to see how it progresses and how the characters are developed. So far in the 4 episodes i feel like watched like 13 episodes of character developing and plot. I mean for a series to really showcase that much of a sophisticated story and great characterization with in 4 episodes is just fantastic imo.
So far its just got me hooked with its incredible attention to detail.
Like for example One piece has phenomenal characterization, great backstories, and amazing attention to detail when it comes to tieing up past and present events together, etc.
I hope magi becomes like the replacement for naruto lol, its turning out be one awesome show and only 4 episodes in. Its rare that i get hooked on a shonen that early.
...Although, from the content in the anime... you wouldn't be able to guess that (no action; slow... lots of talking).
