It's based on the manga so they had to make Mona as cute as possible with her personality, poses, character interactions, etc. The only who doesn't seem to be responsive is Medaka, although it's what it looks like on the outside. In a nutshell, it's kinda like using 'please notice me senpai' gimmick with Mona trying to get his attention. Some of Medaka's childhood is also shown and even back then, it looks like she was the center of attention. Mona's VA did a solid at job at bringing that personality of hers to anime form imo. She's the poster girl so better get used to her. |

Okay let's see, Prettiest girl in the town-Yes Black haired boring af main guy-Yes Loser friends tagging the black haired boring af main guy-Yes Boring af main guy being the most dense neutron star-Yes So yeah, this series may seem like a by-product of all known cliches brought together, and it is kind of as well, but still, it’s fun, or at least it was until the author went on to do the same thing which many authors before them have tried to and failed. Still that part will come later down the line, so would vent there, as I remember the initial chapters were actually pretty sweet and dumb with Mona being at the centre. I mean see, she literally SHINES lmaooo. THAT IS CHARM xD Listening to Mona’s internal monologues, which is just her venting over how our stoic main guy, Medaka, doesn’t fall for her cuteness was pretty hilarious. I mean she’s ready to go to any lengths just to seek that guy’s validation lol. Flashing her panties, feigning sickness, flashing her bra… I mean anything lol. This would go on for a while.. a good while, so yeah it may feel repetitive, but Mona has hundreds of plans, so yeah we’d have variety, at least. Dude wanna be a monk so yeah, he’s not going to fall easily as well. Decent start, nonetheless. |

I mean, would a season of anime really be a season of anime without the barebone, generic, and every other word in the dictionary to describe this ass, romcom? Remember reading this up to a certain point where it got REALLY bad. The first couple chapters though, aren't TOO bad. I mean, they aren't that good either, but it's certainly not as bad as when a certain character joins the fray. So for now, I guess this'll be passable enough. And right off the bat, neither of these characters are likeable in the slightest. The main girl is, well, I don't want to be rude, but you know what I want to say. And our main dude is just "emotionless". I say that because he actually DOES have feelings for this girl, just because he's a monk he can't show it. Yep, that's our premise here. What a premise... I feel like Medaka when Mona tries to talk to him watching this. But really, from the first part of the episode alone you can tell that this'll be carried by the fanservice. I mean, we got a panty shot and a peek at this girl naked basically... all in the span of five minutes. Also forgot to mention, aside from the gooner bait, the main bit of this show for at least the start, this shit looks so cheap and ass. And honestly, I'm glad. This is exactly what this shit show deserves. Shit visuals as well. God bro, this is just... sigh. In a day where we have two other romcoms, that are FARRR better than this slop, don't even bat an eye to this. |

Mangaka Ran Kuze's rom-com series has been one of the most anticipated shows I've seen in all of AniManga, given its prevalence in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine, if given the rom-com genre by itself to get the anime medium. AyaFubuMi's OP is surprisingly good, if not decent. Same goes for Kaori Maeda's ED. The naturally pretty Mona Kawai has been the Queen Bee capturing everyone's attention since birth...until the one that doesn't privy to her senses: the aforementioned Medaka Kuroiwa who is the new transfer student, who seems irritated by her charms, and every time she tries to dig into him, her karma goes back twofold. This has not happened since birth, and his poker face always shows through when she is nearby. Try all she can, from her deliberate fanservice to the forceful sexual Kabedon in the nurse's office, and even worse to strip herself for him, Kuroiwa doesn't faze, or even gets pissed at the worst, almost as if he's on a pure, temple-like tranced state. If anything, it's her who'll fall for him instead, and he'll be her irony if it's anything she'll do to charm him. Another day in school, and Kuroiwa still holds his stoic presence altogether. But what better way to entice him, than to show her assets than through PE lesson with her "holy land" petite skin on display...that only irks Kuroiwa all the more. Mona'sconstant rejections, leading to the biggest calamity of her life unceremoniously exposing herself, and the stoic guy saving the day to cover her with his own gym shirt. Even with the goading of his own classmates of Sho Kobayakawa and Yuzuru Kido, Kuroiwa's just that relentless...because he's actually brought up in a temple as a heir-in-training, something the likes of Kawai (or girls in general) are basically temptations of sin (but also girlfriend material at the same time), and he'll try all he can to keep his heart pure. The competition is on to determine who'll fall to temptations first: Kawai, or Kuroiwa. The rom-com genre will be quite the competition this Winter season, especially to relieve Monday blues. |

Usually such a self-centred character is given to the rivals of mc-chan in shoujo genre, so that the viewer immediately hates them and empathises more with mc-chan, for shoujo genre it's a well-established cliché - here the author apparently tried to deconstruct the image, if we use clever words. But it doesn't really work, at least in the 1st episode. Mc-chan here continues to cause a negative reaction, as it usually happens, despite the change of perspective. Still, you have to be able to work with clichés to get good results, especially if you try to destroy them. |

Decent start so far despite Kuroiwa being so dull but Mona just has the most hilarious reactions when she gets flustered. |

Now we're talking! This is a rom-com I love! After watching Can You Keep a Secret? and I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class I was doubting whether I'd find a new romance anime I liked! This one is straight and to the point. Mona has charmed everyone since birth. Medaka is the only exception. What would a girl like Mona do in this situation? She would of course speedrun every ecchi trope known to man in the hope that one eventually works! Why would a boy like Medaka not be interested in girls? He of course has inherited a temple and mustn't be temped by worldly desires! It makes sense, but also doesn't make sense at the same time; which makes it all the more funnier! Though, it would be boring if they continued having Mona doing more and more lewd things to get Medaka's attention. They've already showed that they are planning to mix things up, as they changed course to making Mona fall more for Medaka right before I got bored! Overall, very funny, very cute, very kawaii, very Kawai... |

@felixsifuri Completely agree. The reveal at the end of the episode took away all of the plot tension. We all know how its going to go. It's a shame too. If they made it a show where Mona has to recognize and overcome her narcissism, or at least reflect upon the circumstances that inflated her ego, in order to woo the one guy who treats her as a person instead of an idol of affection, then it would've been a great show. And, just judging by non-spoiler reviews of the manga, I doubt that's how it'll go down. |

bro this anime is so unserious. the FL is literally stripping to get the ML's attention and the ML has to resist temptation because he's the HEIR TO A CAT TEMPLE?? I agree with what other people are saying, the anime would be more interesting if the ML didn't actually like the FL... oh well. I didn't expect a top tier story anyway. |

If this episode was incredibly annoying and generic for most of you, you should be ready for what's to come since the series is obviously a shōnen harem romcom.😂 I would have loved to start watching it but I heard it'll be dubbed so I'm waiting. |

Oh, he doesn't like her one bit though. He just thinks she's very cute and has to resist her charms. Wait, from the first episode, you thought Medaka liked Mona? For a first episode? For about 15 minutes into this first episode, I was like, What if he could read minds and that's why he's trying not to like her? like to prove her wrong. Got a little annoyed when my theory was not proved but instead he is heir to a CAT TEMPLE? When he said that it gave me vibes of the Cat Returns film and that's what his cat temple could be like. |

The manga used to be one of my recent favourites or favourite recent romcom to be exact. While nothing extraordinary it just felt right and a very entertaining romcom with a charming female lead. While the manga went downwhile doing the same nothing like every other romcom, I still like it and it recently even bounced back somewhat. As for the anime, the trailers already was a indication of the production values so no surprise there. Still the earlier chapters are very much amusing so gonna enjoy watching this and looking forward to upcoming stuff. Also out of all the girls HanaKana just had to voice Tsubomi lol and Sora Amamiya voicing Asahi. |

I guess I should reword it: the story would have more potential if Medaka didn't show any interest in Mona at all, similar to what others are saying about how they'd like it better if Medaka actually disliked Mona, instead of just pretending that he disliked her |

It was cute and fun as expected. On the plus side, Mona's VA was a nice surprise (I loved her in 'Actually, I Am...') and the ED is super cute. But I'm a little bit disappointed by the anime chara design: I though the characters (Mona especially) were somewhat cuter in the manga. Still, looking forward to the next episodes :) |

He'd have been cooler y'know even if he is emotionless but this resisting her charms stuff because it's getting to you right from the get go even when you're the MC? Not a good start to the story sadly. |

Awww it's such a cute anime, though Mona should take a "how to be cute" lesson from the ultimate cuteness lifeform Puniru I see comments about how it'd be better if Medaka doesn't fall in love with Mona, but my opinion is the other way around, it'd be better if Mona doesn't fall in love with Medaka, she just want a complete victory in charming competition, and that's all. |

Flirt empress vs proto monk. Given human nature, I will bet on the flirt empress to win eventually. I suspect the main premise will run out of humor too soon; how many good jokes can we get out that once the cat jokes run out? From the ED visuals are we going to have a 5 girl harem vying for the proto monk, or are some after Mona? At least this MC has a rational motivation for avoiding the girl; that is a change from the usual. Anime girls fall down a lot. Visuals okay. Fan service okay so far. Subtitles seem good, fairly natural translation. |

Probably the romance I was looking forward to most this season, and this was such a good start. I’m already loving the dynamic between Mona and Medaka, yeah it’s clear that Medaka’s walls are going to be broken down eventually, and Mona will most likely find out she has feelings for him beyond just trying to charm him, but for now I’m really enjoying gags with Mona trying to get Medaka to bend to her cuteness, some of which went really sexual lol, the fanservice is very nice for sure. This show also looks like it has more than just Mona when it comes to waifus, Mona is great already but some of the other girls look promising too, I’m looking forward to seeing what their roles will be. And yeah I think it would have been a bit better if Medaka genuinely disliked Mona, but let’s be real, it was clear from the start that wasn’t the case, I figured he was just trying to resist for one reason or another. But what did surprise me was that we got Medaka’s reasoning this early, and it’s that he’s the heir to a cat temple, not sure why it’s a cat temple specifically but alright lol, now I’m interested in seeing how things progress between him and Mona with this in mind, and when she’ll find out. I also really liked the OP and ED, both are very solid and fitting for the show, and it’s nice to hear Kaori Maeda again on the ED after her role as Ririsa on the EDs for “2.5 Dimensional Seduction”, looks like she’s playing a character for this show too. This’ll definitely be a great one to chill out to on Mondays, nothing better than romcom goodness to start the week. |

Great start. But the subs are terrible. I get that she has an Osaka accent, but there’s way too many made up and forced crap in these subs. It’s genuinely taking off the pleasure of watching. she's a huge narcissist but it's dressed up as something more endearing which is off-putting. It's like they took the heroine's gimmick from saiki k and made a whole anime around it, except the gimmick is a lot less satisfying/funny in this anime than it was in saiki k. not my cup of tea, but I'm tempted to hate-watch it |

I just remembered why I put the manga away at some point. The "story" is kinda annoying. The jokes are far and few between and mostly just meh. I don't think there is even one likeable character (doesn't mean they're all unlikeable, they may just be too boring to care). The whole be-nice-to-her-because-physical-attractiveness-makes-her-a-good-person thing is so irritating. |

Damn this shit was fire for the first 10 minutes before it devolved into generic gooner romcom slop. Really thought they were gonna give us “begone thot” the anime, with Mona chasing after the MC and him not giving af. But then Buddy started blushing after every little thing she did and it became apparent this is just your run of the mill cliche romcom full of misunderstandings and gooner bait. Would’ve been so cool to get a romcom where the guy could not be less interested in the girl at the start and she tried all this crazy stuff to hook him. Instead here we just have a narcissist in Mona who needs everyone’s validation to feel ok and a dude who’s clearly forcing himself to not make a move on her. More “turn off your brain” and consoom type shit. Not to be that friend that’s too “woke” but when you watch 30+ seasonals you develop less of a tolerance for this lol. |

Hehe yep, the classic romcom, then. Including the typical "Oops, I slipped and accidentally landed on her breasts" scene, which no title in this genre can do without these days. If it's your first romcom, you might still find it funny, the second or third time you see it you might find it flirtatious, but at some point, as the previous speakers have said, it becomes too generic. I'm missing a bit of "the killer instinct" - the title that gives the anime that certain something. So far it's just "Kaguya-sama", with the only difference being that the advances here are one-sided. After over 100 manga chapters, it doesn't seem to be getting any better. At least the characters are nice to look at and the opening by Ayafubumi and the ending by Kaori Maeda made it straight onto my mp3 player. Background music was also acceptable. I hope that the new characters that will be introduced will bring a breath of fresh air. I'm particularly looking forward to Asahi. All in all, a pretty "okay" start to the winter season Monday. Can't quite keep up with the high standards of "Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon" (although a comparison isn't really appropriate here either), but at least it entertained me more than "Kono Kaisha ni Suki na Hito ga Imasu" (which, contrary to the reviews, I found really boring) |
