The Mikako's Room: 20th Anniversary Special livestream event announced a new Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) television anime on Sunday, titled Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Exceeds: Gun Blaze Vengeance. This marks the first anime in the franchise in six years since Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Detonation premiered in 2018.

Original creator Masaki Tsuzuki and illustrator Shuuichi Kawakami will begin serializing a manga adaptation of the new anime in Suiyoubi no Sirius in 2025. The event also unveiled a teaser visual for the new manga (pictured right).

Tsuzuki launched the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha franchise with the 2004 television anime, spinning off of his Triangle Heart visual novel. The second and third anime series—Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS—aired in 2005 and 2007, respectively.

Seven Arcs produced two anime films compiling the first two anime series in 2010 and 2012. The sequel anime films—Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Reflection and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Detonation—opened in Japan in July 2017 and October 2018, featuring an original story.

Produced by A-1 Pictures, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, the fourth anime series adapting the manga of the same title, aired in Spring 2015. ViVid Strike!, a side story anime, premiered in Fall 2016.

Tsuzuki published a light novel adaptation of the first anime series in 2005, featuring artworks by illustrator Kouji Hasegawa and animator Yasuhiro Okuda. Tsuzuki and Hasegawa also serialized a collection of short stories for the second and third anime series from 2005–2007.

Manga artist Yukari Higa launched Mahou Senki Lyrical Nanoha Force (Magical Record Lyrical Nanoha Force), the latest manga in the franchise's primary continuity, in Kadokawa's now-defunct NyanType magazine in 2009. The manga has been on an indefinite hiatus since September 2013. The sixth and latest volume shipped in February that year.

Is that Nanoha in the foreground of the cover? If it is - she looks younger than in StrikerS. Which would set this inbetween As und StrikerS. Maybe even about "that" incident?

Anyway, more Nanoha - I am hyped.

@SpiderDanger Interesting - then it can't be the incident since timeline wise that would place it when she was 11-12 years old during her TSAB training. Age 13 would mean this takes place after she joins the tactical instructor corps.

@Halcon_Negro Honestly - I'm not sure. Besides touching upon it in the StrikerS anime I think they showed a bit from Vita's point of view in the StrikerS manga where she rushes over and finds the injured Nanoha (but it's possible I mix it up with some doujins I've seen that tried to reimagine what happened). Don't know if they get more in depth in any of the other materials. Maybe even one of the audio dramas but I haven't listened to any of them. I don't know if there are even translated versions of them.

Not gonna hype at this after how much of a disappointment the last two movies turned out to be, not to mention the behind the screen rumors on what happened to Force manga and possible financial abuse towards the 7Arcs staffs back in 2013 kinda makes me stop caring about this franchise.

Nanoha 13 y.o.!? What's this going to be!?

Text on poster: "Takamachi Nanoha 13-sai. Dareka no chikara ni nareru mahoutsukai toshite, kyou mo genki hatarateimasu."
Rough TL: "Takamachi Nanoha, 13 y.o.. As a mage who helps ppl, today is working cheerfully as well." (or sth like that. Idk jap, just a little bit vocab/kanji and guessing here and there)

TBH, I'd like FORCES to be adapted instead (despite it's manga being canceled midway), but a new "proper" Nanoha after f*ing 17 years (last being StrikerS. I'm not counting Vivid BS, and I don't consider GoD as canon) will always welcome. AFAIK there's currently no official manga telling the story of a 13 y.o. Nanoha yet (dk abt the many audio dramas tho), so it's original as well.

HYPE!!! I just hope it will be done by 7Arcs again, other studio may just messes the franchise up (I'm looking at you A-1 and Vivid!!!).

Oh my
The 10/20 year anniversary is real

I definitely was not expecting this

I was just thinking recently that I havent watched the previous movies hmmm

Assuming this is a completely new entry curious where it fits in the timeline and if they can fit in 12 or 24 eps

Seems like there is not other information for now. Right now im guessing its an alternate timeline thing? Could be anything really

Considering the timing its either late 2025 or 2026 I guess

The visual is something for sure although it doesnt prove or disprove anything
Looks very different for sure

@MahiaErebeaNegi Well, the last 2 movies adapt GoD (Gears of Destiny), which was from a game, and mostly not canon to the main series (at least I don't consider it canon). And Vivid is adapting a doujin series. So we literally have no proper Nanoha titles since 2007 (last being StrikerS).

Moreover, isn't FORCE canceled due to the mangaka's death (or at least health issue)?

Wut? Higa Yukari is still alive and she is currently drawing two isekai manga adaptation lol.

The real reason why it cancelled (According to the leaker) is due to some serious behind the scenes happened within 7Arcs studio back in 2013 while working on the last two movies. After 7Arcs lost the original scripts for the movies, Tsuzuki decided to rewrite the story by cancelling Force and put all of it's story elements and setting (Including the ones from unreleased manga chapters such as Nanoha flying at the space, which is supposed to happen at the end of Force manga) into the movies, while also borrowed stuffs from BoA/GoD to made them sightly different.

YEEEEES! Such great news. Unfortunately it's not a second season of Vivid so I guess they'll leave the rest of that story arc unadapted but I'll happily take any new Nanoha news. Also kinda glad it's not another filler movie. Sure seeing the girls be kids again like when the series was at its peak was nice but I didn't really enjoy either movie tbh. So moving the story forward is probably for the best. Which seems to be what they're doing with this sequel.

My bad, turns out Vivid is from an official manga instead.... The heck!? I just learned that. wwwwww
All this time I thought that Vivid is a similar case with Fate/Kaleid, a doujin series recognized/adopted into official canon. Vivid is just sooo different compared to mainline Nanoha series, that it feels to me like what a fan would made (the amount of fanservices in Vivid is not helping either). wwwwww

PS: I never read Vivid manga, just based on the anime adaptation. It's either Vivid is just that different, or A-1 just screwed up big.

Is that why the two GoD adaptations (Reflection & Detonation) is so inconsistent to the mainline Nanoha!? A lot of tech in the movies are just started being introduced by the end of StrikerS, and perfected further in Forces. Why would they already exist in GoD, which was set chronologically before StrikerS? So is that why!?

I mean, the artist that drawn ViVid manga is famously known for drawing hentai doujinshi prior to ViVid, so I can't really blame you for thinking ViVid is a fanfiction lol.

I kinda get why you're confused with the chronological stuffs, but isn't it pretty much a known fact that the movies took place in a different timeline unrelated to the main series (Hence why Graham and the cat twins doesn't exist in the A's movie)? So they can do whatever they want with the movies as long as it doesn't directly contradict the main series.

@MahiaErebeaNegi movies are not alternate timeline. They are considered in-universe "movie retelling" of the events. Though, I do not remember Reflection/Detonation having any inconsistencies with the series.

Goddamn, it's about fucking time we got a new series seeing as it's been more than 5 years since we got the excellent Reflection and Detonation movies. I'm a a big fan of the Nanoha franchise, it's hard to believe that it started all those years ago with the Triangle Heart 3 OVA!!

It's actually both in this case, the movies are alternate timeline that also exists as fictional films in the main timeline (Only the first two, Ref/Det doesn't have in-universe films as shown in the Ref/VVS Drama CD).

There's even a Drama CD where the movie version of the characters traveling into BoA/GoD timeline, where none of the movie characters know who Graham are and only recognize the movie version of the events.

I didn't think that there would ever be a new series. It's a shame that it initially came out during a turbulent time in the anime industry, and that there's currently no place that's streaming the series (Amazon had all series except for Vivid, but they have all since been removed). I'm curious to know what they have in store this time around.
