This really is an end. Everyone returns to their homes with the battles and conflicts over. This was the safest way to end the season.

Senya truly made a difference in their world and deserved to be a hero in the end. Looking back now, it felt like this season carried much more emotional impact than the previous.

With the battle over, everyone splits their ways to finish what they started, with Senya and Tsukiko sending Nau to whence it came from, and Shinsuke seemingly having a beef to settle, with Hanatora watching over him with their contract. Takeru also makes it home, as Jinka evolves fully into a katawara; Nau quelling his past as the mad God that Jinka faced before, and Shinsuke settling with Yazen over the 8 years since they first met. And with him being that strong, Yazen getting off with a lost arm and eye is much of the damage that Kuzunoha couldn't help recover.

Back to the Mountain Goddess, and the bargain bet of either sibling's soul, that got cancelled thanks to Shinsuke eradicating Yazen, it's a fair trade for the capricous princess. Nau making it home to the lake where it belongs, but not before a resounding, but tearful farewell for the journey they've made together.

The siblings making it home to the cheers of the katawara helping them take care of the house, along with Senya and Tsukiko forming a family of their own with the lands closed to the outside world, where wars went like the norm with new rulers taking the land and made a laughing joke about it until Shinsuke's passing. As they grow old, Senya is the only one left behind to walk his own journey.

Senya traversing through generations of katawara, though people noticing him as a White Hair legend, and his losing feud with Black Dragon Mudo over games of Go to settle disputes over the long and wandering pilgrimage, alongside the trips to the snowy mountains to see Setsu. At the very least, the Demon Fox that is Jinka, the katawara trio will continue to fight katawara for as long as they live.

With the 4th wall breaking farewell from Senya, this marks the end of the "complete" adaptation of Sengoku Youko.

Sengoku Youko's journey is has been profounding all year, and as a "complete" adaptation, this is easily the best work that anime can be when it comes to Satoshi Mizukami's works turned into anime. It's a life less on philosophy, after all.

I read all of this a couple weeks back because I was impatient, and honestly, I didn't expect for White Fox to deliver all too much, but after last week's episode, I would like to take back that statement. But yeah, ofc, everybody's leaving away to do their own thing. Honestly, I kinda forgot how Nau even got introduced lmao. Like in my head he just spawned in out of nowhere and just became apart of the gang. But it seems like it isn't like that, and it is time to say goodbye.

Anywho, this was pretty much expected, Shinsuke going after Yazen that. And Jesus fuck did my man LOCK THE FUCK IN. Didn't kill him ofc, but Shinsuke thinks he did, and he at least did chop off his arm that allowed him to conduct experiments and whatnot. So even with him alive, there's nothing to worry about. And hey, thanks to Shinsuke defeating Yazen, Mountain Goddess freed Jinka and Tama from whatever debts they owed, so it's really a win-win for all parties.

But from here on, it's just the more gut wrenching moments ever. Seems all happy and fun for the while they show afterwards, with Senya and Tsukiko being a happy couples, making a child, and the worst of it all.. showing all the time that passes, all the people that pass, all the while that Tsukiko ages, and eventually... dies.... :( I bawled reading the manga, and here it's not different, with the music in the back this time around.

But now in the VERY future, Senya... is still as young as ever. And doing the usual of warding off the bad katawara and the such. He's become a living legend now that wards off as such in random villages and is doing what a ruroouni would do basically. But yeah, goats run into each other and find the goon's son, (I actually do NOT remember his name lmao) and just clown his father, as should xD

Funny enough, I read these last chapters with the ED playing in the back, and they played it just like I thought they would, and all the emotions came coming back. AS ALL THE GOATS PULL UP TO BATTLE THE SNOW MONSTER... LOOK AT THIS MAN. I'm so proud of them.

And they ended off just like they did with the manga, with them breaking the fourth wall and thanking us for watching xD

Show has a its problems, but I just can't help but fucking adore this ending. Fits with the themes of the show, and gives such a great payoff for this last 30 odd episodes. White Fox might've not cared for more than half the show, but these last couple of episodes where they did care were phenomenal. Thank you <3

It's so rare in anime to get a complete adaptation of a niche manga. I'm so thankful that this was made with the care and love that it deserved.

Now that we've reached the end, I feel a little sad but it was a nice adventure. Thanks White Fox for giving us a complete adaptation all in the same year, instead of 2-3 years.

Merry Christmas everyone!

“I hope that something warm was left inside you as well” It certainly was. Ended this finale in tears. Can’t believe this nearly year long journey has ended. We really did get to see all these characters grow up from children to adults and parents! I’m such a sucker for timeskip finales where we see the passage of time, everyone happy and married and with kids. After all the battles and trials this group has been through, they all deserved it. Especially Senya, Tsukiko and Shaku.

It was kind of bittersweet though because while it’s great seeing everyone grow old, it’s sad knowing Senya’s kinda left behind by so many of those he cares about. Tsukiko growing old and dying in his arms especially hurt πŸ’” but at the same time, that’s part of the human experience and life. Just shows how truly human Senya has become despite thinking of himself as a monster when he was younger. There’s nothing more human than loving and grieving the loss of those you care about.

Jinka and Tama married as well! Would’ve been nice to see their kiss since they were our first couple after all!

Pretty cool hearing about all the different shoguns taking over while Senya and the village just lived in peace with no fear of war thanks to the charms Shinsuke put on the village.

The last 4-5 minutes were sooo good. Especially that scene of Senya walking thru the snow where he’s talking about how he puts his body through crazy shit just to feel that desire to live and carry on. Now his new purpose is protecting Japan from supernatural threats and I like to think in headcanon that continues into present day as well. Mudo, Jinka and Senya together in that final shot was amazing. I just hope he finally gives Yuki Onna the time of day lol.

Show might not have had Re:Zero quality, but White Fox put a ton of love and care into this adaptation. Total opposite of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer which was a mess. I’ll miss this.

I love when the final episode has slower pace instead of faster pace and end abruptly.

With so many things going on in the second season, many people already forget that Yazen is very evil, but I don't forget, and I'm glad that this anime doesn't forget.

There are many reasons why Shinsuke kills(?) him, mainly he think Yazen is the one who shouldn't be alive at all cost, but maybe he's doing this to please mountain god so that she won't take Tama's soul, or maybe he let Yazen escape when he's confident that Yazen won't be able to do research anymore. Shinsuke is now a complex character, a development that's welcomed by me.

The circle of life continues, evil and war and chaos still existed, but as long as Senya's alive he's gonna do what he think it's the right thing to do, with his friends if they're still alive too. I admit I've a soft spot for MC live through history, but many people also love anime like Frieren and To Your Eternity and of course this anime so obviously I'm in the majority.

There are moments where the visual aspect falling a little bit, but the music department always shine, thanks to the composer Evan Call, he's only 2-3 anime away from being my favorite anime composer. FYI the soundtrack of this anime released today.

I don't celebrate Chrismas but I'll take this anime as the best Christmas gift for me. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I'm speechless, a damn good story well portrayed from start to finish, I feel like I have witnessed something unique while was happening. Really Satoshi Mizukami knows how to write good stories with interesting characters in it, and I'm glad this one had the love, care and attention his other manga didn't got. It's sad for me Sengoku Youko didn't got the buzz I believe it deserved, but those of us who watched until the very end while keep it in our hearts from here to our final destination. Truly a Masterpiece, period.

Wow. They actually released this episode on December 25. I thought they'd take a break or delay the episode indefinitely or something. Having a finale of a show on a day like this feels special. Although it's already December 26 where I live.

The last episode was an epilogue like I was expecting. But I didn't think White Fox would make an extended episode. That truly makes it feel special. The epilogue went pretty much how I imagined it. All the main cast get married and have kids. And then we have significant timeskips where we see Tsukiko and the others grow old and eventually pass away peacefully after living a good life. I am so happy they all got happy endings. They deserve it.

But afterwards, it kept going and we saw more of Senya's life in the future. It was cool to see him still keeping in touch with his old friends like Shinsuke, Shakugan, Jinka, Tama, and Mudo. Jinka is a full katawara now. So he really got his wish. Tho at this point, I don't think it matters if he's katawara or a human. But it's good that he's katawara so Tama won't be lonely. I guess Senya's children and grandchildren are probably normal humans. I wonder if Senya would ever have a thing with the Yuki Onna. I'd like to think he'd stay loyal to Tsukiko. Overall, the ending was satisfying.

I really loved this anime. I'm so glad that I watched it. And like some have said it's really insane how White Fox managed to deliver a complete adaptation of a 3-cour anime in the same year. I'm glad the director and the staff got what they wanted.

But I do have some complaints. I think the animation quality of the last 2 cours was inconsistent, which is a shame cause that was my favorite part. The protagonist switch from Jinka to Senya was just amazing. I think the monster designs were pretty lackluster. Most of the katawara look very simple and bland. I heard the author didn't really have a plan for the story so he just made up the story as he went along and it shows. I kinda wish we got more out of Tsukiko's training. She had a lot of potential. And we never really find out the ultimate fate of the Void People who were the cause of most of the conflicts in this show. Especially the one guy who stayed behind in the present. We got his cameo near the end but it didn't explain what he was up to and if he was anywhere near his goal.

Anyway, all those things aside I think this anime was very good. I wish more people watched it. I'd love to see the author's other works get animated by White Fox.

This is probably the last anime I'll finish this year. I loved it. I'll miss it.

what a journey...what a story...and what a conclusion

Truly something that has left me feeling complete and satiated after seeing how it began. Not gonna lie, it's been a long time since I've seen a series deliver a truly overarching story that did not get tired, dragged out or boring. Gonna miss this one.

What a great finale.
Only these old school type of shonen would take their time dealing with finale thoroughly.
The newer gen of popular shonen all end in a blink w.o addressing anything. (Like JJK/ Oshi no Ko)
It's kinda sad it's usually those fast pace cash grab anime with insane production value/ budget get all the attention , and those story that take their time to build theme get slept on. My only gripe with this ending is as main antagonist of the series, that trio sure seem to have very little screen-time/ involvement in the ending.

The ending was too good but I'm a little sad that Shinsuke is so... eclipsed?

Senya and Tsukiko's couple has the right to a magnificent ending, Jinka and Tama's is perpetuated but on the other hand Shinsuke and Shakuyaku's doesn't really have one, it seems to me that from the act "The journey has ended" we don't even see Shakuyaku anymore, I would have liked a more colorful ending for the main character of season 1, besides I don't really know what happens to Shakuyaku after the end.

It's the only dark point but overall I loved it, it's a beautiful ending.

That was one hell of an epilogue, in the end everyone went their separate ways while Senya and Jinka continued to live on as Youkai when the Sengoku period came to an end in Japan. I also liked how Senya broke to fourth wall to say farewell to the audience, it was the author's way of saying Thank You. How ironic that the last episode would be on Christmas Day.

Happy Holidays!!!

Surprisingly, the last episode was the best.
Much more emotional charge than all previos episodes combined. Seeing the passage of time, how friends grow old and die... that hits a spot.

I liked what Senya said about being happy. That of "To be happy you just have to remember the good things and forget the rest". That's actually a very cool way of thinking.

Anyway, personally, the passage of time is a matter that makes me shed tears. While I did not cry this time (mainly because the show failed at making me REALLY care about the cast) it managed to keep me glued to the screen and feel sorry for the characters when they died one after another of old age, at least they had families and didn't die alone, which is great.

It was a very good adaptation overall unlike that of Hoshi no Samidare which was a big failure while the manga was as good as Sengoku Youko.

Senya continues his journey after losing all his human relatives but fortunately he is not alone in the end. These last minutes were really excellent and this final shot with the 4th wall broken just awesome like in the manga.

This series has had some nice characters and som okay arcs but it still has always just been something to watch that wasn't awful. It's disappointing for everyone to come together just to split up again, though at least they're doing it on their own terms. the first season was a lot better whereas this one just kind of dragged.

A worthy ending, better than many mega hits out there.
I just thought they could have used a few seconds to show Shinsuke and Shakugan living as a couple, and although it seemed they didn’t have children (based on Shakugan’s comment that only she was left in the village of the adults from the main story’s time), they could have included it, because in the scene showing an older Shinsuke with white hair, a child that appeared behind Seniya looked very much like Shinsuke.
A work that unfolded with changes in main characters and standout supporting characters, time skips, and yet the creator managed to deliver a cohesive ending. The 4th dimension in the final seconds was the cherry on top.

That ending was an absolute chefs kiss. Everything wrapped up, even seeing Setsu again. The 4th wall break was fantastic at the end too, so well done.

Bumped this from a 7 to a 9.

Seeing Tama partying with the monkeys was hilarious, Tsukiko/Senya's kid was cute. Seeing everyone age was a nice touch.

Awesome to see Jinka can transform between human and youko.

Overall, absolutely fantastic.

What a ride. Easily one of my 2024 favorites. I am glad we got a complete adaptation and I wish there was more. I fell in love with the characters and it was nice to see them grow. I do wish there was more of a focus on some of the characters that are women.

9.5/10
