It's festival time!

It's the day of the summer festival at the neighborhood shrine. Mino gets Ine dressed in a cute yukata. However, when Mino learns there isn't one for Ine, she consults her mother, Kaede. They prepare a beautiful yukata for Ine. That night, Ine enjoys the festival with Shouzou as they stroll through the fairground.

Well, it looks like Mino has finally found her resolve, following in the footsteps of her good old jiisan and baasan. Plus, we got a mini confession from Mino and Shouta. LMAO at Shouzou's reaction to Ine's yukata. Anyway, it's a pretty typical festival episode, except these characters are adults, not high schoolers for once in anime.

Shouzou sacrificed half of his sand just to spend more time with Ine... so sweet. <3

Well the girls in Yukata where nice tho Shiori didn't wear one i would like to see her in something else besides her school uniform.
And the main giving up part of his life for his wife was nice hopefully the spend the time well.
The teddy bear was funny with the girls fighting over it.

Really lovely festival episode the girls looked so cute in their Yukata's. Seeing Grandpa give up some of his remaining life to give to Grandma was really beautiful.

My heart sank when Ine revealed her remaining lifespan. Just imagining Shozo living on for a whole year without her was just so cruel, and I couldn't have felt more emotionally validated with how they resolved it.

The big tsundere energy radiating from Shiori tho

Super cute, the beginning of the episode, the granddaughter wanting the apple tree to take care of with her future husband and the two having this conversation if they ever return to it was incredible, the other is in love, but refuses to admit it, but grandpa stole the show with what he did so that he and grandma would be together until the end, what I cried in this scene was no joke, incredible anime, let's see this final stretch to see if everyone has their happy ending

Excellent episode! I'm in love with Shouzou and Ine. Not only they are an amazing couple but they have Shouta and Mino and Satoshi and Shiori trailing them.

I saw en passant a thread about anime which animation is not up to the story... Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru serves as an example.

I'm always impressed that the show has the stones to bring up death so often. The golden apples aren't some fountain of youth, and the show is much more mature for it. Young people should be taking note and getting their butts in gear to live. The main characters aren't emotionless dolls numb to death, it's a very real fear for them.

Ine in yukata>>, we all share Shōzō's reaction to that
This ep did a great job, showing the deep bond of Shōzō and Ine built over more than 60 years of them being together, Shōta and Mino's relationship taking another step forward also Shiori and her senpai's banter...to sum it up this ep was really great

They had us in the first half ngl in regards to Ine passing away in just 7 days, ain’t no way they were gonna do that to us, and thankfully Shouzou made a big decision to take time off his life and give it to Ine thanks to yet another good deed they did for that shrine, so now Shouzou will go with Ine when the time comes so one is not without the other, it feels good knowing that but at the same time still pretty sad. And I also really like the notion of living the way they always have up to the end, I believe that’s the best way myself.

But enough with the sad, let’s talk about the funny, I really liked that first bit where Ine got very scared of what I’m guessing was “The Ring”, I love horror but there are times where one can scare you enough that you get paranoid of even the smallest things like a crack in the door lol, and it did result in a cute scene of Ine sleeping in Shouzou’s arms which was a nice way to cap off that scene. There was also Mino and Shouta nearly having a confession but it was still a very nice moment, Shiori unfortunately didn’t have the greatest of times with Satoshi lol, the lore was cool tho. And the summer festival bit was ripe with Ine and Shouzou moments, seeing an old couple enjoying a summer festival instead of the usual high school aged characters does hit different, and I’m glad Shouzou knew exactly how to win that bear for Ine, he’s a man that knows the trade lol.

This episode made me cry. It was very powerful and beautiful. The grandfather offered half of his life to the grandmother so that they could both pass away almost at the same time. That says more than enough: the end will come when they both depart. When they... Damn, I can't say more, it hurts and makes me want to cry. So I'll leave it here. Let's just be prepared for the end.

This episode was really sweet, they lived most of their lives together and they will die together in the end. Bittersweet but much better than either of them living alone for prolonged amount of time.

2 more episodes to go, from what I heard the entire manga should be covered. So I cannot wait for the finale to see how it all ends.

Grandma's face when looking at the wood pattern in the ceiling and seeing faces is just too relatable. Something you probably see every day and don't think twice about, but can't stop thinking about once you notice it.

Toshigami, the local god of that shrine...I always knew the hourglass was something supernatural, but it makes a lot of sense now if we're talking about gods being involved. I'm curious what the scales are for. So Grandpa gave half of his sand to Grandma, huh. I wonder how much longer that will be, exactly. It's a bit hard to tell with sand. Especially since Grandma's hourglass had a leaking hole in it. But with Grandpa's comment, I guess it's roughly more or less the same amount of time now, so Grandma doesn't have to go alone anymore.

I love how Shiori is pissed at her (now bf?) when he goes into full nerd history mode instead of spending time with her at the festival.

They say there shouldn't be any secrets in marriage. But sometimes secrets made out of love like Grandpa's wish he made at the shrine, are worth keeping a secret.

Only 2 episodes left...I'm not ready for this to be over so soon.

Edit: I just noticed it after watching the episode, but the "7 days left to live" was actually foreshadowed by the Ring reference at the beginning of the episode as they were watching the horror movie.

I couldn't find anything on that one stall that, from what I can gather, is Rochiwari or Kuchichiwari (in katakana, which only complicates things).

Across from the Takoyaki stall. Was trying to look into various stalls, but came up empty on this one, it's likely a bit more obscure, since there are lots of different ones, some I probably couldn't name the Japanese offhand anyway

Man, I probably will cry at some point in this second half, my grandma lost her first husband, my Papa, about15 years ago, remarried and lost that husband about 5 years ago.

She really only seems to have a small group of people who'll visit her, including me and my parents, her son and daughter in law, and I daresay she's deteriorated to the point I feel like she would want to just be released from the suffering, or isn't even all there.

And that's more common anyway, the wife having to be a widow versus the husband a widower. And both can lead to problems from unprocessed grief, especially hoarding disorders, though that often is various trauma and grief piled on over decades

Mino wanting to take care of that apple tree for her whole life was cute and kind of sweet.

That really hurt thinking of Shouzou without Ine 😢 I would have done same as Shouzou in same position.

idk how to feel about this episode, of course becoming young by eating an apple isn't realistic at all, but out of nowhere they can talk to gods and shit? They dropped a fkng death bomb and in a couple of seconds everything got solved? I mean yeah, it is still sad af, and we don't know how much time left they have (I assume half a year since Saitou said he would be fine for at least 1 more year), but you can't just talk stuff like that in an already sad story and flip it like that lol
Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.

Yet another depressing episode.

Yeah, I guess tons of loving old couples would LOVE to pass on together (considering they have little regrets or unfinished business left).
It can be painful to think about death-related stuff. Unless you're a complete loner (literally), I bet at some point you also wondered about death, or how sad your family would be if you happened to die sooner (doesn't necessarily mean to die young, just dying "first").
Can indeed be painful to think about it. I also bet many of us would prefer to be the last to die.
As the saying goes, death is painful for the living. Meaning, it hurts those who remain alive. The dead don't care (duuh) if they get buried or cremated or have marble temples or pyramids built for them; whether they get remembered or not...

If only! If only we had some evidence of afterlife though. Apart from the miracle of getting young again in this anime, the fact that gods exist in this world is huge! Having such evidence would have been dramatically calming to a guy like me who has hard time believing in god(s) or anything after death. Dunno, I think death would be less depressing to think about, knowing it's not the end-end; plus it's always nice to know some higher being exists. Religion to me seems like something someone would use to delude themselves/others, to cope/manipulate and feel less depressed as a result.

Anyways, solid episode. The two lived a happy long life together and will die together in about 6 months it seems. It may sound wrong (lol), but I'm happy for them.

"So this is this Dasako who's so popular with Mino's generation" Crunchyroll needs to fix their subs.

It seems to me that if they go into old mode again they'll gain some sand back. That's what I noticed a while ago. Why haven't they figured that out yet?

Being totally honest, I think it is one of the best romance animes we have got in the past few years which isn't following your regular high school genre. The romance element is just too perfectly blended here, don't know why people are sleeping over this one and sadly it has only 6.99 rating so far which is totally out of my understanding
Can't wait for the last 2 episodes

Even being an elder doesn't shun away from things like horror, which definitely scares the living hell out of Ine.

Shouzou and Ine getting rid of the apple tree sapling that turns them young, Mino wants it for her upcoming birthday, and deciding for her future as well, when it comes to Shouta obviously, going in their footsteps the same way. This proves great for the Saitous, and in preparation for the upcoming yomiya a.k.a summer festival, the ladies try on yukatas, which Shouzou definitely is aroused by Ine's yukata, and even more reminiscing memories of their time spent at festivals through their years, whether leisurely or competitively winning prizes like the Haramaki Bear.

Well, the bad news has arrived that Ine only has 7 days left to live, and she feels like death has been slowly creeping into her. And by the miracle of Shouzou, him being transported into the dream alongside Ine to the tochigami god of the jinja to be given thanks for clearing up its place, he allows the god to give half of his remaining lifespan to Ine. And that while may it be kept as a secret, they now won't know how much time they've left, but to embrace the time together until their last breath.

Once again, Satoshi is too fixated on his history lesson, which leaves Shiori rather frustrated...or rather, out of love.

Time is so fickle...Ine thought that her death has been a nightmare. But thanks to Shouzou, she needn't worry much.

Mino and Shouta practically promised to wait each other in the future wow >< Meanwhile, Shiori is starting to want that 'something' like how her grandparents are hehe. Looking at The relationships around us really affect our outlook with various things. It is lovely how a positive example their older people is to them. Satoshi was very cute nerding out about his research though??? Hahaha he seems to not be in the same page as her yet (and Shiori is still learning more about her feelings) but he invited her so that's something. Go for it, Shiori!!

ALSO that whiplash. I was just giggling with the mob characters over how cute Ine was carrying the bellybelt bear + the couple's show once again of how in sync they are, then the very next scene starts with "Either one of the two people who love each other will die first"??? Literal tears during the second half. I was not expecting that seven day count T_T Ine said that she will not tell Shozo anymore next time, but Shozo will still know because they have equal time now :')

So the hourglass will announce how much time left on earth. It is sweet of grandpa to give half of his hourglass sand to grandma when the local God grants an exchange of life to extend her life. This series is more like slice of life drama. Shiori is getting closer to Satoshi as they both visited the summer festival.
