Well, this episode puts emphasis on how the past affects the present.

Tears were shed, emotions were all over the place. It didn't feel too different from the other episodes but still delivered a lot of feelings. That date a night seemed almost out of the ordinary in this type of show though.

Each individual human is irreplicable. Robot, no matter how much it look or act like human, is still not human since it's replicable, but what if there's a law that prohibit copying a certain type of robot, can it becomes human? The answer is: as long as it can technically be copied, it can never fully become a human. That's the birth of humanoid race. Practically a human, but technically a robot.

This episode gives two mess-up stories that show a certain problem from such a society.

The first one is trying to solve a child custody case by copying a child.

The second one, Sudo's original mother is in jail, he can't enjoy his life with her, so he's gonna enjoy his life with his replicated mother instead.

I felt bad for Risa. Her only family came to find her to just kill her. Then Hikaru to abandon her also at the end. I know he did everything to find his mom. I don't know I guess I just grown to like Riza character.

I'm a bit confused about Sudo's mother. Is he searching for a copy of his original mother, because he wishes to live with her? Or bring her to justice, just so her original mother can get free? Or, because her original mother allowed the copy, there isn't any way for her to get free? Or, is it the copy's fault? (I'm also wondering if the company who put Sudo's mom through that got jail time or not. Was the fault fully shifted on her what came to have a copy of her?)

I get Tui Fui got probably jail time because of murder, but the way they put it, sounded like she got jail time because she was simply a copy... Also, the fact Riza believed Tui Fui without any questions asked (umm, photos can be faked) felt a bit weird. I get Riza is supposed to be a good-hearted person, but it doesn't equal being naively too trusting. I'm just glad Tui Fui didn't end up murdering Riza and taking her place... It was nice knowing more about Riza's background in this episode!

Next week is already the ending, huh.
That's too bad, several stories from the ED didn't make it into the episodes.

“The difference isn’t me, it’s how the world treated me” 😢 damn. Fui deserved better.

I drop the vid praising this series and they take it to another level. This was the best episode yet story wise. The overarching plot is finally getting going again. We have to get a season 2 because there’s way too much stuff we need answered!

Absolutely gutted for Risa and Fui. For starters, cloning your daughter’s neural network onto a random person is already messed up, but then abusing her emotionally and physically is even worse. Don’t feel bad at all about Fui taking him out

Probably not the best idea to just let someone that you’ve never met before that just shows up out of nowhere move in that soon though. Nothing wrong with hanging out, but idk how quickly I’d have shared a living space with them. Shows how desperate for family Risa was.

Can’t really blame Fui for wanting to take out Risa. It wasn’t right, but she’s basically lived as an imitation of Risa who for the most part had a happy childhood and positive memories to talk about. Even though they have the same neural network, it’s our experiences that shape who we are as people. Everyone is unique, you can’t just make copies of people like that.

I believe in one of the earlier episodes(can’t remember which) they had cloning or some type of memory altering mini-arc that dealt with a similar theme. We’re more than just memories and data on a hard drive.

And that’s a nice segue into Sudo’s mother situation. I’m still a little confused on what happened to her. Did the company rat her out? Sudo mentioned making copies of neural links being illegal.. or did the clone do something that caused Sudo’s mom to get locked? Either way, between she and Michi there’s a lot of loose ends.

Almost thought Sudo himself had been copied with how nice he was being to Risa on that dinner date lmao. Knew something was up, wonder if he’ll really leave her behind 😔

Finale next week gonna be great

Wow, this was super heavy. This show went from seemingly episodic to having an actual narrative, slowly but very surely. Well done and beautiful. Finale next week. Poor Risa. Not sure why the show is rated so low, this is one of my more recent favorites.

  • This episode consists of chapter 85, 29, 30, 84 of the source material. And also part of chapter 7 of the sequel "Red Queen" is added.
  • The casting of chapter 29 is drastically changed in this episode.
  • As for the first part, similar story can be made replacing the brain-copy settings with identical twins. At least, we have two things that we ourselves can't choose; one is the genetic code, and the other is the environments we are put. Both of them affect our lives. Although we have to play with given cards, it's tough when the cards are poor.

Risa Higuchi's story of becoming a Humanoid from the human that she is, her story of one of pure tragedy. From a family who divorced right after her birth and wanted her killed at all costs, Sudo retained her simply for the fact that he was largely more of the same.

Risa's younger sister Tu Fui suddenly appearing in front of her, though she was adopted by her already divorced father in India and then brought to Japan. Clearly, Fui had more of life's enrichments with her father taking care of her, though to Risa's case, it's under her late mother's custody, and like with Risa and her mother, treated Fui like scum. The only difference is that Fui seemingly is more than meets the eye, trying to get Risa accused for her wrongdoings.

Apparently, Risa's brainprint is the same as Fui, an exact copy of her neural net. The unexplainable nightmares that she's having all this while and questioning her existence, it was her father who created Fui, his substitute Risa, and that prompted her to kill him then and there. Despite being a perfect copy of hers, laws like the Humaoid Intelligence Duplication Act are there to keep checks in place, but humans will make mistakes, and as is the case with Risa and Fui, it's the same for Sudo and his mother, creating copies of the neural net. And as much as Sudo went trying to find his other mother, the mother who's trapped in prison is his biological one whom he wants to save.

On Michi's update, Kaoru needs Sudo's help to be part of the review committee, though its deal in revealing where his mother's copy is, is a tempting one. And Sudo bringing Risa out to dinner, that was his signal to tell her that he's leaving Japan and find his mother.

The sudden departure, that's quite a shock, how will Risa take this?

This penultimate episode was the most consistent of the anime thus far, leading to the endng.

Best episode because it's now focused on our two main characters Sudo and Risa. Fui might be a copy of Risa, but she's been living a tough life than her. She had different environment and people around her. Let's see how the finale will be.

• I think that the law bans copying, not being a copy.

• Also, to the law, should the copy of the mother be seen as just as guilty as the original?
If not, then the copy runned away and abandon Hikari. But it is understandable given the situation.
May be Sudo's intention is to tell her that.

• What makes Sudo unique?

That is just some really awful experiences both Risa and Fui went through. I feel bad for both of them. Then Sudo goes on about leaving on top of it though at least he had the proper sense of telling Risa about his mom more which should help her accept him leaving even if it would hurt.

Anyone not getting why Risa trusted fee so easily and moved in together it is because how similar she is to her she could feel it so she felt at ease in that familiar similarity down to subtle mannerisms.

I am still not sure why Michi looks like Sudo. I assume maybe it models it's personality on people but maybe it only takes on some looks not personality traits.

Well, considering the fact that most people are inherently more trusting of those they relate to through identifying similar traits in, and then considering the fact that Tui Fui was the single most person on Earth Risa would be likely to trust in this respect as she's not only similar, but a 1:1 neural signature clone, it makes sense. Akin to family members separated at birth or at a very early age who meet later in life and sense some intuitive underlying connection they can't quite place through blood and genetic bonds. This is probably even stronger than that as the brain, minus all the new life experiences since her creation, is an exact replica.

So trusting Tui Fui on some level probably just feels like trusting herself or just a slightly different version of herself. Rejecting her would feel like rejecting herself or a part of herself, along with her own family and origins, given the paternal connection.

Risa's also a humanoid?
I thought'd it be an Astro Boy situation.
Both parents are petty. The mother changed her hair colour to no longer match her father's and her father duplicated her neural net because he couldn't get custody.
On the penultimate episode, Risa's own incident with illegal copying of personalities links back to the crime the doctor's mother was convicted of in the first episode.

Peak, now this episode really had a lot of Lore.

The story of Risa and her "sister" is a bit sad, in the end their father is the only one guilty

It seems that Sudo will finally be able to find out what happened to his mother 🚬

That was known from the first episode and definitely openly commented on before by her herself when she was hungry and spoke about questioning the purpose behind humanoids needing to eat and feel and experience hunger.

Fuck did they just want us to feel sad. We get Risa/Breezy confirm just for them to punch us in the gut twice about Risa's sister and now with Sudo leaving Japan to find his mom. This was an excellent episode. So many gut punches man. I hope I'll receive before the new episode.

Well, this continues to be one of the best anime of the season and one of the most underrated anime in years. If anything, the score can be a reminder that 75% (or more) of MAL is made up of zoomers with the attention span of a squirrel.

Nice to see this episode setting up the finale by advancing the overarching plot. Not sure what kind of conclusion we will reach, but the ride has been well worth it. Can't wait to check out the finale and then pick up the manga afterwards.

Sudo date & goodbye how abrupt. Michi's plan likely needs more seasons.
