This show continues to explore the connection between human and androids...

Valentine's Day just seems like another opportunity. Not going to lie, I think this episode has a more dramatic tone especially with the music used. Hikaru and Risa's chemistry is kinda underrated in this show. I really do hope they get more screen time together.

“To have loved and lost is better than to have never loved at all”

My fave episode by far. As the episode went on it became obvious that it was going to be Risa who Rei was in love with. Everything just started falling into place. I didn’t even think about that callback to episode 4 or 5 where she had the yuri simulation of she and risa. That’s cool they’ve been laying the groundwork since then. She’s been dropping hints for so long and it must have been very painful for her to not get noticed.

Very fitting that Breezy’s name is written with the kanji “好” love is an integral part of the human experience. Yes, it sucks not have your feelings returned. But that pain is at the end of the day what makes us human. It hurts, but it’s beautiful at the same time. We should always keep our hearts open and be willing to connect with other people, yes it can lead to pain, but it can also lead to tremendous joy and I know Rei will get that eventually.

Episodes like this and Eva as a series, that handle the hedgehog dilemma are always great for me.

Pretty sure this ep confirms that Sudo knows how Risa feels about him and just ignores it for now lol which is kind of ironic

Another cool fact is that the day the procedure was meant to take place on, 4/4 is sometimes called the day of happiness in Japan. Because 4 can be pronounced shi in Japanese and the day has two 4s, 4 4=shiawase. Awaseru (合わせる) which in Japanese means to put two things together, 4 4 can be thought of as putting two 4s together. shi awase(ru). Shiawase means happiness in Japanese. Again going back to the romance theme.

Even for Humanoids love can be complicated especially when agape love can turn into unrequited love if both parties are not on the same page emotionally.

  • This episode consists of chapter 17 and 36 of the source material.
  • There is a phrase: "Making sweets is chemistry". Even the ingredients are the same, the outputs differ. Whenever I tried to make fudge, I made a large caramel thing. The temperature management or something would have been wrong.
  • "Do you think humanoids don't need romance?"
"Less than humans who need it to procreate."
If humanoids were made to understand humans behaviors completely, it would be necessary humanoids to have the same emotion as humans.
As the argument of the need of romance based on reproductivity would make some party uncomfortable, I avoid it here. (I also don't have much insight about those kind of issues.)

Due to the type of narrative that this anime has, I did not understand if this episode ended in a cliffhanger or simply in an open ending .__.xd

I would really like Risa to confess her love to Sudo, it would be very epic 🚬.

I saw it coming that Rei was into Risa. It really is a shitty dilemma. On one hand it would be selfish for Risa to want Rei to keep her love for her without her giving her more than she currently has been but it also is selfish and self defeating of Rei to risk sacrificing their friendship by changing how she feels about Risa. There has to be a middle ground somewhere. To me relationships do not have to fall in strict categories all the time.

Aw Sudo baked Risa a nice cake so maybe he likes her but just doesnt want a relationship getting in his way or maybe he only the cake because he would see it as meaningless if he did not make it so it and doesnt see Risa that way and just wants to avoid rejecting her. He is hard to read.

Odd episode in that we had one full story episode instead of two shorts, and also that it ended on a cliffhanger. I'm still confused as to the humanoids biologically speaking. is it only their brain that is artificial? does that mean they removed someones brain and put the computer in? or did they clone something and give it a computer brain?

I was hoping we'd break the episodic format and actually have some plot development with Sudo and his mother situation. What we got instead was still good as it developed a character previously established and consistent throughout the show in terms of appearances. Still, I would've much preferred this show to have gone in the direction of having doctor donny going about doing dodgy shit uncovering criminal underground mafia whatever the fuck but I fw the ethics of ai significantly so I do enjoy the brainteasers this format presents too.

@Marinate1016 First they casually drop a non-binary character and now they do this. This show is really flying under the radar despite being a fucking banger. It's really well done. I am with you on everything you said. I didn't expect the callbacks either. I also like how this is written as this wasn't rushed. It felt natural. Hats to the staff and the writers for handling this subject well. I thought Lycoris Recoil did a good job with this but this is very well done.

I also felt Sudo way of handling her feelings is pretty fair because homie is a mama boy. He wants to save his mom. That is his main goal. His mom wrongfully was made to take the fall for something she didn't do.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

Damn I was already feeling depressed and this just made it worse. Not that it changes anything in the big picture. But I sure do wish I could just shut down that part of me too. Not as much in terms of something being requited or not, as I never had that problem, as in just pure loneliness for many years. It IS crippling to have a part of you that is always hollow and unsated. Wish I could just go all psychopathic like a certain Ayanokouji because it's pointless to go on normally. Being human fucking sucks. I've wanted to become a robot for decades now for good reasons. This being one of them. Hobbies are really the only thing to life as it is that make it worth living at all. Also sorry for anyone who had to read thru this rant. But I couldn't help wanting to say it. Also, anime like all the isekai stuff that many hate are objectively better for mental healing because they rather help me actually escape for a while rather than get reminded of all the grimness of real world.

Poor Breezy :(
I hope she didn't go through with the procedure of removing her love completely. The world needs more yuri, not less!

I shipped those two so early in the episode, but I figured it was just my usual yuri-brain activating. However, since I was hoping it was true, the reveal was really great. Of course, until I realized the feelings were one-sided. Maybe Breezy can just get her love for Risa, specifically, removed. I know she mentioned she had this same circumstance happen multiple times before, but removing her love completely is just too cruel. A solid episode and not one I was expecting. This series is just super underrated.

Valentine's is around the corner, and Risa is ready to make her confession known by giving chocolates to all, including Sudo with an addition of her own homemade cakes. But aside from all of the scientific relapses behind that, Sudo just wants to make it vague that he likes her cakes, but yet don't say anything at all...by literally being robotic to each other. Sudo, however, has his own plans of besting Risa's effort by making a cake as a return gift on White Day.

The unexpected client being Risa's friend Reon "easy-Breezy" Miyoshi, who want to remove all semblances of emotinal feelings since she's a Humanoid, and having a meal together with Mari, humanoids not having romance can differ from people to people. Indeed, both Risa and Reon are shutting each other out, because Reon has a crush on Risa, and that's why she doesn't validate her feelings for the one friend who's clearly in love with Sudo. The various hints from before should've been a red flag, but yet, Reon wants to completely remove her feelings, yet by Sudo's advice, take it slowly.

Romance is not something which can be solved by treatment, as Sudo surmised from her body actions, and worse still being friends, hurt people hurt people, but yet, the truth is better said than never had at all.

Quite an interesting dive of a well-known topic, especially between humans and AI.
