Fantastic episode, this one and the one before it- This series really goes all out when dealing with the horrors of war. Just one thing I think it could've been a little better, so many people and the only one who can pilot the gundam is a child? And there's no sign yet that is is a new type, so why only him?

It seems likely that he's a newtype considering that he's defeating experienced pilots already. Besides that though, I think the only other eligible pilot is that girl with an injured leg.

That dude just blew himself up in front of the poor kid. D=

If Uso lives through this series he is going to be so messed up. Dx

Lol, this black guy is insane! Killed his two comrades and them commiting suicide, lol

This series is a little boring to me, even being an Universal Century Gundam show. I hope it gets better with the time.

Deliberate friendly fire, implications of rape and committing suicide with a grenade. All in the same episode... Granted, this dark stuff makes it more interesting than this series would normally be, but Tomino seems to have gone a little crazy in the 90s.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Wow, that was vicious and as mentioned above, quite filled with dark - as Tomino goes.

Uso runs laps around the trio, but Lt. Gira shows him the desperate brilliance of a warrior.
Shakti's gone and run off, but we'll probably be seeing her again soon.

We're really seeing some inventive moves by Usso - transforming only two thirds combined in order to use the beam saber.

Silly BESPA, why would you destroy your own mobile suits. A mobile suit is more worth than the soldier inside from a military standpoint.

Yeah, the beginning is a little boring compared to other Gundam shows, but at least it's not bad. It just takes a while to start things. As soon as we hit the second arc, thing should start getting more interesting I hope.

I like the themes represented in this, but the directed is so-so and the dialogue itself is bad.

Although it is becoming more promising, the focus on mecha action (more than Zeta's 50% per episode) makes every episode more boring than the previous one to me.
I appreciate the speech about war children, but if it is hammered so much at every occasion and detrimental to the episode, it will quickly get on my nerves. Here, for example, it is perfectly understandable for the soldier to react, but the character looks like a bad comedian on the stage and is not credible.

When the situation is not desperate, why would you consciously destroy a MS? I doubt the size reduction made them so cheap. At least, the little duel later contained good ideas.

The direction and visual presentation are incredibly inexistant compared to Zeta (maybe even some ZZ moments).

4/5 Despite all those problems, it's weirdly attracting to me.

@St0rmblade Ahah, it's funny to have another "Gundam enthousiast" think the same about the action ingredient. Good pick on Chronicle Usher

Am I the only one who's revolted by the fact that SHakti pretty much abandonned Uso to his fate? I know she's always wanted to go back but fuck, that's your goddam childhood friend. Don't leave him like that.

This episode was so brutal, I almost cried like Wattary did. I hate that a child has to go through this, but I would've never blown myself up in front of him, even for honor's sake. At least wait until he's gone, Jesus fucking Christ!

I'm also beginning to see what Tomino meant when he said this work would focus on women: Katejina was the first one in the franchise so far to talk back to a man who called her "woman" and give her full name in response. Cronicle seemingly being a stand up guy is another good sign. I don't know how things are gonna go so Imma keep my expectations on the low but it seems promising.

Bewildering. It is probably the most appropriate word for describing the performance of the mobile suit team sent after the lot in this episode. Particularly in the light of the final suicide. War is hell, but really?

On another note, Katejina's actions were intriguing, though.

After learning he truth he killed himself because of shame (a little kid with 0 combat experience have defeated his squad) but one thing I agree with… a little kid should not be in a battlefield…

That half-gundam really made BESPA pilots scared.

I thought that suicide was the best way for Gira to die, but didn't expect him to actually do that...poor Uso. He doesn't need to kill enemy pilots if they do it themselves.

Chronicle somewhat reminds me of Mashymre with his "I'm a bad guy but actually I have honor" vibe. And Katejina seems to be able to stand up for herself (too bad she didn't kick that wannabe rapist soldier in the crotch)

Waiting to get more political background and get out of this mecha action arc (I'm fine with it so far, but it's time to do something else)

This episode was pretty good again. Its less episodic than most Gundam from the 80's. The antagonist side is highly characterized despite some of them are very minor characters.

Damn, this is already becoming a dark comedy show. I mean, the setting is great and refreshing, but the sad moments feel so forced.

"Leave me alone! Hurry, go somewhere safe!" and then he blows immediately after while Uso is basically still there. That was pretty funny.

Imagine coming home from school in the 90s to watch this episode, especially with that ending lol.

She's a kid and war has utterly destroyed her life. Her decision to run back to a location that represents a sane comforting reality makes sense. Uso's become unrecognisable to her.

I can't blame a child for wanting to get the heck out of that situation. Raising that toddler in the countryside seems more responsible than in the frontline of a war. Sure, that countryside might get bombed to hell anyway, but at least death will be swift compared to the ongoing misery of the Gundam crew.

Gotta love a kids show that can make us discuss such heavy topics lol.
