Welp, this episode had a depressing mood.

Still, we got to see more of Knives Million and his connection with Vash. More importantly, this episode also establishes more of into the experimental and secret sides of their world. In some ways, it's kinda creepy...

Vash and Nai, the pair of brothers who are always in conflict, this episode really helms in of the wayward destruction of utilizing plants beyond their production limits for humanity's gain. And this is the crux of Nai, reborn as Millions Knives to eradicate humanity to save plants from humans. But Vash, having already lost Rem, doesn't wish to see people lose their lives anymore. And from that one moment, a black hole of a Gate sucks everything in its path, and Vash got away with his injuries, minus an arm and Luida intact.

The reunion back to Ship 3 with its staff, Meryl, Roberto and Wolfwood, it was a reunion worth homecoming for, for Vash. But on the serious topic of dealing with Nai, Wolfwood would've hoped to see a resolution from the Humanoid Typhoon, but instead, faces the Worms with both Meryl and Roberto taken hostage to JuLai, and Zazie explaining what had truly happened to Earth from the effect of both Vash and Millions Knives.

But damn, Million Knives using JuLai to house as a plant carrier, and Zazie being terrifying as a Worm, humanity is REALLY at stake here.
Who is truly worth saving: humanity or plants?

We see the moment that made Knives snap. Seeing that entire plant carrier full of dying plants whom are just being exploited made Knives see his vision. To create a world of only plants. That's why he's been going around collecting them, even the red ones. Because those ones are on their last leg without much energy left but Knives can restore them to make this planet anew. It was crazy seeing how Knives ripped those dudes up, proclaiming himself Millions Knives because of all his followers spread across the planet. Vash being horrified by what his brother's become, pleading with him to stop. My heart hurt for Vash losing his brother like that. He loved Knives and just wanted them all to be together, Knives though had other plans and is siding with plants over the humans. Vash gate opening up on his left arm, what basically looked like a black hole, needing to be cut off by Knives was cool. Learning how Vash lost his arm and brother in one swoop since Vash choose the humans over the plants. Which makes sense considering Vash is the more human one and Knives is the more plant one. I'm glad that Vash returned to his home with his new friends this time. Soured by Zazie showing up with her bugs saying they have to pick a side between humans and plants.

Millions Knives going Wolverine.

So Vash was a literal Gardevoir, and created a small black hole, when Luida was in danger.

Zazie be like, I will shout exposition and you can do nothing about it, Doctor.

We better see more about that "gate" before this season ends. Or at least I hope we can get a season 2 or a movie to finish it off! Gripping the edge of my seat rn

Knives got into his X-23 bag! The closer we get to the finale the more I feel this has to get a 2nd season, there are just too many plot threads left to wrap up in 3 episodes.

On one hand, I respect Vash, but on the other hand, he does feel like exactly what Nai says that he is. He's a man with big ideals but empty words. To be honest, other than running, he hasn't done much this whole season. Nai asks him what they can do for their people and Vash just stands there. He sees people manhandling his brother, and he just stands there. But when Nai fights back, suddenly, it's "protect the humans"! Sure he's going overboard, but Vash isn't helping here at all. And it's obvious that Nai cares about Vash, but he feels like Vash cares more about humans than about him. Vash has always been this weird  "I want my cake and to eat it too" character, and they try to act like that's a good thing, though I think they are mixing up things being "gray" and making a solid choice. You can make a choice. You don't have to be wishy-washy.

nice to see the backstory of Vash and Knives

so Vash have some black hole power?

Knives wants a world that Plants can live without Humans while Vash wants coexistence between Plants and Humans

Luida wants to plant literal plants all over the planet to help the Plants more

but the Worms of the World wants to help Knives it seems

I kinda wish it was coexistence. But it's like other than helping to make the plants more comfortable, he doesn't care much about them. Nai has a point in that Vash has never even considered that maybe what Rem said was wrong. It also often feels like he chooses Rem and the other humans over Nai and his own people. I mean Nai is extreme now, but it feels as if that came from somewhere.

Hell!!! Humans can't even learn to live together.
Of course they won't live with any other life form as an equal.

But we won't learn from this at all as long as it looks and sounds pretty!

I'm glad we got this backstory to learn more about Knives' motivation. He says fuck humans, only PLANTs matter, while Vash believes they can live with each other.

Nice to see Brad and Luida are still around thanks to cold sleep.

Zazie shaking things up a bit at the end, this last stretch of episodes should get interesting.

I liked the episode, but it did have some storyboarding issues. But that might also be needed because of how much has/had to be told before the end of the season. The story feels a bit rushed. I don't know if they will make a second season, but I think that or a longer season could have benefitted the story.

Still think it's beautiful and up till now this (reboot) anime is a fav.

Another great episode. I just love when the villain is justified. Humans destroyed their own planet and decided to impose and enslave on the other life forms because of their own mistake.

Knives is vicious with it, but the humans Vash want to protect aren't any better. They are using up and killing their PLANT bretheren, and Vash doesn't seem to have an issue with that. Yet when Knives strikes back he's the big bag. Hypocritical way of thinking really, I see why Knives and Wolfwood get annoyed with that thought process of his.

4.5/5 episode

Hate to admit it, but I understand wihy Nai went Wolverine on those guards. I don't understand why Vash was so calm.

So he's just a bunch of worms come together to form a humanoid. That's not creepy.

Vash nuking the entire planet with his arm transformation was epic in the original, a tad disappointed they changed that a bit here.

Though now with we knowing the motivations of Knives, it's only a matter of time we see the final face off between him and Vash.

It was an alright episode... Better than most episodes from this show. I really dislike the Zazie character. Not that I think Legato has been much better, but I'd rather see more of him instead. Also, I hope they explain why Legato and the scientist (and the little girl) are helping Knives. What do they stand to gain from helping him? Is he going to give them anything? Is he threatening them? I fee like we should have an idea about their motivations for helping Knives by now.

Interesting especially the 1st half where we learn more about Knives and also Vash losing his arm but it's good to see cryopreservation is working well for humans and now it's back to the plot now that we have more elements about the upcoming human vs plant conflict... Zazie is really disturbing to watch to be honest.

More sadness in this episode and more beauty once again. Loved seeing Vash and Nai's backstory and how they came to be. Looks like humans have already destroyed their own planet so now they're destroying other creatures' planets. Meryl is so adorable. Can't get enough of her. I need more. Can't wait for next week.

Also... it is their planet. Leave them alone, greedy humans. I love Luida and Brad tho. They're like Vash's parents.

Sadly, after watching this episode and how humans were basically using PLANTs as both resource providers and slaves who didn't even have the right to live, I'm not questioning whether what he did is wrong.
For example, all the RED plants he collected were about to go "BOOM" from being overworked for resources, right? So by taking them away Nai is actually saving those humans who would have been caught in the blast radius.

Vash just wants to save humanity because the only mother he knew was human. He never considered all the other PLANTS living in slavery being sentient or maybe not wanting to continue in that kind of existence.

The worm entity is right. If you objectively consider things, the PLANTS are more beneficial for their planet than humans, who are already on record for mass extermination of other species and destroying the earth. Not a good look. But our eternal optimist Vash probably believes he can somehow save everyone, that's not realistic but we'll see how this plays out.

All these shades of grey, that's almost approaching Golden Kamuy shades of grey where I don't even know who the good guy or bad guy is anymore.

The piano scene was interesting as well.

Was Vash better than Knives straight away or was it that he was ruining his melody just like he is ruining his plans now.

First half was utterly amazing and gave me strong Trigun Maximum manga vibes.

On the other hand, second half was... alright. Don't get me wrong, I like it and the visuals were amazing. It's just it felt rushed, but my biggest complain is how awkwardly sudden was changing the scenery: from Vash stopping the sandstreamer to him and his friends getting dragged to the base Vash used to live in long ago.

I'm aware it might've been done to move the plot onward, but nevertheless, I thought it was the weakest point of this episode. I'm just not a fan of such "galloping" pacing and jumping fast from one story arc into another.

Still, depite that, it was a good episode.

It was nice to get some more depth to Knives, I now feel he has more to his character here than he did in the original anime, to my recollection. I wouldn't say it makes him that compelling of a villain, but I appreciate seeing at least one inciting incident where he shows genuine affection towards Vash. Considering he was already in this mindset, it'd be more interesting to learn what caused him to set the Ship Five crash in motion, but it's possible his ideology is just his nature as a way to conflict with Vash's pacifistic outlook. I'm also glad to see everyone survived there and Vash got to have a home with Luida & Brad to go back to, that's nice.

The second half does have problems, Adnash mentioned about how quickly scenes shifted in plot succession. I also think the Zazie kidnapping to exposit to Meryl & Roberto feels a little force, and while it could be justified later, right now it feels like a shoe-horned way to raise dramatic stakes & world build. Roberto finally calling Meryl by her name, even if he wound up reverting back to Newbie, does feel like a death flag to me. His position as an anime-original character makes me think he's probably not going to survive by Stampede's end. I could be wrong of course, and if this doesn't wind up with a second cour I will be, but I subscribe to the theory that he'll die this cour and be replaced with Milly next cour.

LOL, forgot about this series since episode 5, rushing through it ATM.

___ ___ ___

But... if Luida is building normal plants so they can try to fix the planet and make it so the energy plants can live better without being stuck in orbs...

Shouldn't Nai help Luida instead? Cause from what I've seen... Nai isn't doing shit ATM but just doing human experiments and gathering up Plants... where was his "in a decade I'll make a place for Plants"... sounds like Luida the Human is doing that instead.

Everything makes sense now and Knives motivation makes a lot of sense. He did what he thought he had to do to protect his people.

I don’t agree with what he’s done at all but I also can’t fully get behind Vash because there’s no way his ‘save everyone’ plan is going to work. The world isn’t that kind and humans definitely aren’t

Up to this point, I'll admit my thoughts on Stampede are somewhat mixed. My initial concern about the series jumping into things has cooled down as time's been devoted to explore this new take on Trigun, particularly focus on Vash, Wolfwood, and Knives. However, there are points where it seemed like the story got a bit too busy and had some elements it doesn't have time to dabble into. Plus unlike the original series, a bit more difficult for me to give a hoot about Vash right now considering his lack of justification and inaction to deal with Knives' actions, as the additional dimension to Knives' character makes him come off more in the right in the current conflict.

In this version Knives has a better reason to want to kill humans. But he doesn’t understand or dont wanna understand to major problems that make his plan and his actions questionable .Firstly what Vash did say about humans and plants creeds each I other to survive actually make a lot of sense. I hope they gonna open this more but I dont think it was a lie and Plants do need people too. Secondly is he never asked or did he care about what Plants wants. Yes humans did use some of them disgustingly but in the same time as I understand a lot of humans didnt know that Plants are ‘ alive’ and a different race. I do understand that a lot of people not gonna care but a good amount gonna care about it and actually gonna try to save a lot of Plants and again we don’t know what Plants wants but looking that more than one of them helped Vash before, they are not against the idea of coexistence with humans.

So I dont think Knives is wrong but he is not right either. Actually the only person who is entirely right is Zazie right now.
