 The Crunchyroll Industry Panel at Anime Expo announced on Sunday a television anime adaptation of Fumita Yanagida's Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! (Tomo-chan Is a Girl!) manga. Kodansha released the eighth and final volume in September 2019. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in February 2018 and released the eighth and final volume in September 2020. Synopsis Tomo Aizawa and Junichirou "Jun" Kubota are the tightest bros you'd ever see. They roughhouse and spar, but through thick and thin, they've got each other's back. Yet, there's just one small problem: Tomo is in love with Jun! Since she was young, tomboyish Tomo has been just another one of the guys; due to his extreme muscle-brained nature, Jun doesn't notice any of her advances—not even when she explicitly confesses. To add insult to injury, for the longest time, he didn't even realize that she was a girl. Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! follows the comedic hijinks of Tomo and her friends as she tries to catch Jun's eye and escape the infamous brozone. | This is really interesting news considering how long ago the manga ended. I hope this isn't something short given the yonkoma format. | I got real hyped seeing this but seeing the cast I'm not sure what to expect. I love Rie Takahashi, probably my top 3 female VA but I'm not sure how her gentle voice will work with the tomboy Tomo. The voice for Junichiro should be solid and Misuzu I'm not sure as I'm only used to hear Rina Hinata as Filo or Milim, but she should be fine. Also the voice for Carol will be really interesting as she has only voiced one character and it was the french woman Kaguya obliterated in Kaguya-sama Love is War. Loved reading the manga so hope they will adapt the whole thing. If you look it up it says 950 chapters but each chapter only has 1 page so the whole thing could be adapted by 24 episodes |

| I've never looked foward to an anime adaptation as much as this one! This is one of the few if not the first manga I've ever read completely, so I really feel nostalgic about it! Cannot wait to re-experience this story that I read so many years ago ^^ Also just saw the trailer, Takahashi Rie does a great job at bringing Tomo to life! |

| Didn't expect an anime anymore at this point, but I'm overjoyed we're getting one! Hopefully this influences a sequel to the manga since the ending was disappointing for wanting more after the pairing finally became a couple. Although the cast's voices aren't great from what I imagined of their characters... Can't wait to see the adorable development though. ... I'm not familiar with the studio, but I trust the director. A full adaption would be sweet, but an anime adaption regardless is awesome even if it's incomplete. I don't remember how short the manga is, so I don't know how possible one season is to complete a full adaption... |

As for the studio, it specializes in periodic original shows and adaptation of various shonen manga of mild polularity. Personally, I can only particularly remember "Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo". |

| I'm really excited for this anime, tomo-chan was the manga that got me into reading manga regularly, as in like waiting for the update every day. I'm a bit torn on this announcement though, I want to see it but I hope it's not treated like a bad short-form anime where the episodes are like 5 minutes long and the quality sucks. |
