The Code Geass New Project Presentation livestream event announced a new anime series on Saturday—titled Code Geass: Dakkan no Z (Code Geass: Z of the Recapture). The new anime will follow the events after the Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection) sequel film, which takes place in an alternate universe. Staff Director: Yoshimitsu Oohashi (Kokkoku, Sacred Seven) Script: Noboru Kimura (Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?, Gundam Build Divers) Character Design: Takahiro Kimura (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Gun x Sword) Knightmare Design: ASTRAYS (Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito - Yokuryuu wa Maiorita mechanical design) Studio: Sunrise Director Gorou Taniguchi (Planetes), screenwriter Ichirou Ookouchi (Devilman: Crybaby), and animation studio Sunrise are credited for the original concept. All-female manga artist group CLAMP (Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHOLiC) is returning as the original character designer. The event also announced a smartphone game titled Code Geass: Genesic Re;Code, scheduled for release in Spring 2021. The new anime series and the smartphone game are both part of the franchise's Next 10 Years Project. The original Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) television anime premiered in 25 episodes in Fall 2006, followed by the second season, Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2 (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2), in Spring 2008. Bandai Visual released the Nunnally in Wonderland original video anime in July 2012. The five-part Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito (Code Geass: Akito the Exiled) original video anime series opened in theaters in Japan between July 2012 and February 2016. The spin-off takes place between the first and second season. An anime film trilogy recapping the two anime seasons screened in Japan in October 2017, February 2018, and May 2018, with each installment featuring several changes to the original storyline. The Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Lelouch of the Re;surrection) sequel film, taking place in the alternate continuity established in the recap trilogy, debuted last February. Bandai Entertainment originally licensed the anime in North America in 2007 and released the two seasons on home video from 2008 to 2010. Funimation reacquired the anime series in 2013 and shipped both seasons in 2016. The distributor also licensed the recap trilogy and the sequel film and released them last March and on February 25, respectively. I've said this before but the series is probably better off with no more new additions but, being the ultra-Code Geass fan that I'm, I'll take it. Not sure if I'll get around to playing the game which don't get me wrong sounds pretty intriguing though but I'll most definitely check out the animated content. Here's to hoping it'll be a tv series and not a movie. |

If this is an ANIME, I believe in this project. But the Code Geass team really can't do movies/OVAs right. Their stories always need a lot of time to develop, otherwise they get rushed. I just hope it will be tied to the original series in terms of plot and characters. But honestly, this is the last time I trust them. I loved the first three OVAs, but the story was rushed in the last two OVAs ; the recap movies were pretty bad, and the "new conclusion" was meh. If this is bad, Code Geass will be dead to me. And I'm saying this as a long-time fan (Code Geass is still my favourite anime, even today). |
Everything changes. Even the happy and funny things eventually disappear. How can I still enjoy this place then? - Furukawa Nagisa (Clannad) You have to make a choice. Either you give up on your soul for the sake of science, or you give up on science to save your soul. In my case, the soul was already in pieces. - Lloyd Asplund (Code Geass) Do you understand the meaning behind Nunnaly's smile? She can't see or walk. So there are things in this world that she knows she can't do alone. Her smile... is her only way to show gratitude. - Lelouch Vi Britannia (Code Geass) Death is part of Life. - ... Me. |

So Genesic Re:Code is basically the Code Geass version of if FGO was the Fate sequel instead of Hollow ataraxia since it's smartphone game that's a sequel. Also, not big on the new designs. Nervous Noboru Kimura is handling the Dakkan no Z script when they did series comp for Problem Children (ok) and Gundam Build Divers (oh no), as well ad the script for Knight's & Magic (oh no), and the screenplay for the Princess Principal movie Crown Handler (given my thoughts on the writing of Princess Principal, oh no) Panik 0 for 2. I am very nervous about the Geass 10 Year Project Fukkatsu officially kicked off last year. Also, ASTRAYS doing the Z mecha designs worries me with how bad a lot of the Akito mech designs are. |

Dude, Geass already died with the terrible S2, the only thing that made it good was the Zero Requiem. The Akito movies were fine, and the movie was ugh. I understand they are never going to stop milking one of Sunrise most profitable series, but this already feels like Psycho Pass, where the first one was a hit and everything else an excuse to make more. |

For the record...I actually liked Princess Principal, but he didn't write the TV series anyway. Just the movie, which hasn't premiered yet either. That said, he does seem like a very middle-of-the-road writer. Which doesn't bother me at this point, since I prefer to judge anime after it has actually premiered. 0 for 2. I am very nervous about the Geass 10 Year Project Fukkatsu officially kicked off last year. Also, ASTRAYS doing the Z mecha designs worries me with how bad a lot of the Akito mech designs are. They haven't even shown a single mecha so far, thus this is also premature. |

I haven't seen the alternative-universe movies yet, but if I get it right, they basically weren't satisfied with how did the anime end ( probably the fact Lelouch had died? Since this is a sequel of the Fukkatsu no Lelouch? |

I'm looking forward to it! While I do love Lelouch he isn't one of my top favorites in the series so I can live without see him lol. xD I already like the girl character we should get names soon! I just hope it will not be a long wait and it will be ready to air by the end of next year. One day I do hope we get more spinoffs that takes us back to pre R1~R2 timeline there is so much stuff there to expand upon and explore like the geass cult and stuff. |

Dear god please don’t let this masterpiece of a series be run into the ground. They already went too far with Lelouch of the Resurrection being a cash grab and a mid movie overall. Despite this obviously im still excited to see this new show but feel they should let the franchise be. |

R2 was such a perfect ending for the series, why must they continue ruining everything... At this point I feel like I'm having less and less favorite media that don't get unnecessary sequels. Well, at least they admit it's an alternative world/timeline. I'll just have to ignore these. |

They haven't even shown a single mecha so far, thus this is also premature. Noboru Kimura actually did the script for episodes 6-8 and 11-12 of Knight's & Magic, unlike 1 which you stated, or the entire show like I stated. Still, he did helm the bulk of the disastrous latter half of that show, so as far as I've seen from his works, he's basically only done one ok project, that being Problem Children, while everything else was very much to my distaste. Even some other shows he worked on like Kokkoku have middling reception, so I don't have a lot of faith or optimism placed in this writer. Haven't seen Solty Rei tho. It is premature, but given how much I hated the Akito mech designs and feel that the Alexander in particular feels so off when put alongside the significantly less impradtical bi-pedal humanoid Knightmares of basically every other installment and most other already blah designs from Akito, you have to forgive me for finding their return to be worrying or at least something I am not remotely optimistic about. Seriously, how would you even control all of those appendages in such quick succession? Still, it would be cool if the mech designs for Dakkan end up being fine, but I'm not holding my breath. They really just need to make an entry dedicated to the fall of the EU which the main series brushed over and treated as something not worth showing. I was hoping Akito would be that but it was instead just...EuroBritannians doing EuroBritannian things and having a happy ending in spite of how the EU is totally still trampled underfoot. Seriously, how has this franchise still not tackled that? R1 and R2 literally left the door open for that since they didn't feel like showing it themselves. |

i liked code geass a lot, but it feels like they're milking it out; especially given that this film is set in an alternate universe so events can be "ret-conned" but also not really. regardless, i'll give it a try. i do think that it would be interesting to see different p.o.v. centered ovas or movies, provided that they are done well. |

I only watched the original two seasons of Code Geass in 2009 and remember it fondly for the twist ending and buildup, but I've never gotten to watching the other installments yet. One day I will once I rewatch it again to binge watch the rest but, I'm curious... I only remember a sense of Lelouch still being alive hiding, but I have an impression and potential misunderstanding that the story is fucked with... I don't know... timeline and clear milking apparently. Whoever this Akito alternative main cast/story is, I can't imagine being interested in at all. I remember a movie of Code Geass which I first thought was a reincarnation or a Lelouch who looked younger but that may have been a mistake. Regardless, I can't find it anymore whatever it is. Without spoiling somehow, if anyone can give me a summary intro of what's happened to the story after the original S2, I'd like to know because it seems confusing. There's a lot of weird installations which I would have never expected with the first ending to the point that any sequel feels a little odd with how the world should have been at peace. |

Last movie was a bit of a let down to me, but it felt like a transition to achieve a specific goal, so we can always hope for the best. It is an alternative Universe, no need to get mad about it. @waalex11 It would be a spoiler to tell you about the content of the movie Fukkatsu no Lelouch that happened in a parallel world, but the title is pretty self-explanatory. Besides what the title suggests, not much happened in the Code Geass Universe. |

Dunno about that one. Without Taniguchi or Okuichi at helm, it‘ll probably end up like Akito: a decent show on it‘s own merits, but not a show that captures the charm of the original. Ohashi is not a bad director after all, not on a level like Akane or Taniguchi, but decent nevertheless. Well, it probably would have been better if this was a completely new IP. Then again, it wouldn’t sell. I mean, who remembers Sunrise originals like Buddy Complex? |
