THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Hmm, I guess Utsumi knows a lot more than he is letting on about these monsters. On the other hand, I think the fighting in this show really makes it worthwhile to watch as it's so energetic with the battle cries and even background commentary.

That Nazo guy is really strange. I wonder if he's hiding something. Seems the episode had a mix of melancholic mood combined with some comedy and mystery. This series' plot still has my interest for what's building up so far.

The series has definitely bought me after this.

Pretty great action, they used the opening again for the sequence, certainly feels like it's going to become the main theme of the series.

Rikka was pretty cute when she was concerned about Yuuta, seems like their relationship will develop, I can see them becoming good friends. Akane is pretty merciless with what she did to that kid at the end after he lost, still love her. Best character definitely goes to Samurai Calibur though.

Layouts and character acting were pretty good this week's episode as well.

I don't think that I've said this enough, but the action scenes in this are REALLY REALLY GOOD....Man I've missed this from Trigger

As for the episode, Akane just continues to be even more psycho and I hated how she just threw that poor AI Kaijuu kid away like that...I hope he comes back just to bite her in the ass

Loved how Rikka is clearly falling for Yuuta (Although I think that they were probably dating or something of the sorts before his amnesia) but I loved how now there's even more people for Gridman to combine with....Can't wait to learn more about them and where they come from (Which is some school lol)

Really had fun with this great episode :D

I just.. really love this show so much. And it's just making me want to see even more Tokusatsu shows being given the anime treatment.

Thankfully Ultraman isn't too far off, but it'd be super cool to get a new Kamen Rider anime in the near future as well.

Of course she does and obviously she will lose. It's Trigger so crazy/insane girl will get the guy. Megane guy will get Rikka. In this aspect Trigger is really predictable.

The final punch bwteen Gridman and the Kaiju/boy was a lot hype. I wonder what the other allies of Gridman can turn into?

Also, this is probably some of the best CGI I've seen from a non movie anime in a while. Even if it weren't Tokusatsu inspired, I'd still have enjoyed it.

Anyways, awesome episode, that rocket punch into powerbomb was hype, just episode 3 and we're going full TTGL vs Anti spiral already.

Am I the only one thrown off by the pacing of this episode? The first two were fairly restrained in comparison and the way the character's developed seemed like it would be a relative slow-burner in comparison to Trigger's other works, and then it just dumps the rest of the cast on us with some big plot developments. It feels really incongruent to what the first two episodes presented us with. It feels like the writing staff got impatient or something

The CG and action for the fights this episode were amazing and loads of fun! Good job studio Trigger. Is it me or has the animation in the fights gotten significantly better since the 1st ep?

It's cool that Gridman has new parts to transform with. Also is anyone else loving that kickass dubstep that plays to start hype things up? And obviously the opening coming on every fight is great.

Rikka still best girl, Akane is too crazy.

Real good points you're making here. The first 2 episodes were all about creating an atmosphere, a restrained sense of dread and wtf and in this one suddenly all went out of the window with new cast member and complete with angry screaming shounen antagonist (god I hate that cliché).

For some reason with those other 3 appearing I got reminded of the Turks in Final Fantasy VII. Also the first guy with the swords that appeared in episode 1 already (and joined the team in episode 2) reminds a bit of the teacher in Kill La Kill.

And so far this seems to be on the level of Kill La Kill. Not boring crap a la Kinzaiver. I hope they keep it up. Nice sound/action/music. (They are good at combining it. Good script/directing.)

Also plot might have some secrets. ... Maybe I skipped back and rewatched the beginning of episode 1. Hm ... maybe that Alexis mech appeared and tried to work together with Akane. And she did not get her memories changed. They might want to destroy the world ... cause Alexis is just evil and Akane got bullied.

Anti is just a Kaiju with AI. And Gridman and the weapon guys are sent to fight Alexis. ... and Yuuta might just be the 2nd half of Gridman and some type pf humanized weapon part. He might not even have lived there on earth before. If it is possible to alter the memories to remove dead people (so others think they have died in the past) it might just be possible to have Yuuta included in the memories of his school mates.

Trigger likes snowball effect and jo-ha-kyu story telling
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball_effect
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo-ha-ky%C5%AB

so im not gonna be surprise if the pacing gets more faster and the story telling more bigger/grander

Utsumi innocently raised the probability of the Kaiju being transformed humans, and this made Yuuta lose against one for the first time, which made Rikka, Utsumi, and Akane think that he was dead. This moment was really good, and nerve-wracking, Rikka, and Utsumi weren't even able to sleep or move, and they were also really afraid to check if Yuuta was still remembered by people.

Rikka was regretting not having answered her phone when Yuuta called, and she thought that she would never be able to say that she was sorry. Utsumi was feeling guilty, and wasn't able to tell Rikka that it was because of what he said that Yuuta hesitated, and lost. And Akane celebrating her victory was also great with that laugh, she is a really charismatic villain, but I already dislike her because of the way she treated her creation.

I mean, Rikka thought that he needed help, and selflessly offered him her umbrella, and her lunch. She cared for him, and treated him as a human, but Akane laughed while talking about what Utsumi said, and told him that he was a monster/kaiju, and there was also the way she just threw his food on his face after he lost, she's too emotionally unstable. Oh, and Calibur's friends are a nice addition!

This episode really brings and doubles down on the Tokusatsu Ultraman foundation, and I liked it compared to the first 2 episodes that were just *insert* wacky scenes and left for us to figure out.

Akane is pretty much her psycho self, with the Anti AI just there to proceed her goal, if Anti ever comes back, let's see how he will do.

Thankfully, Gridman's friends have arrived! And along with that, Trigger's insane animation that also really just shines throughout this episode. Certainly leaps and bounds better of the 3 episodes so far.

Thinking back on it, you may be right. It might've just been my mood at the time, but nothing struck me in any way. The characters, dialogue, design, setup, action. Maybe it was how immediate and fast everything is shown and played out that made me not care what was going on. The animation and CG was lacking, and the fight scene felt anticlimactic due to its simplicity. Felt basic, like it barely had any of Trigger's signature style.

I should probably rewatch it to see if I still think the same.
