Cool, we got to see a bit of Futaba performing and a bit of performance from Kaoruko too.

I like how this series experiments with different characters that some epiosdes really feel quite unique compared to others. The story of that performance seems similar to others in terms of the style but looked great with the theatrics.

Pretty entertaining episode!

I fall more in love with this series with every episode I watch, really.

The episode focused on Futaba and Kaoruko, it's nice to see their relationship and that they also have importance to the series.
Something I really appreciate in this series is that every character gets her time to be important, it's not just Hikari and Karen.

The animation is incredible as always, also some good art direction at the start of the episode.

4.5/5 I want the soundtrack so badly.

I loved that the show explored the characters beyond Hikari, Mahiru and Karen as I wanted to get to know some supports to, and we got that in Futaba and Kaoruko.

It wasn't my favorite episode from the show but it is a very good one. Pretty entertaining stuff throughout.

Having read the prequel manga, for a moment I was thinking "wait, didn't we already have a episode around these two" lol. This touched on different conflicts than the manga anyway and it works well.

Even tho I have heard they are having production issues, the revues still look pretty great for the most part. It's just like Kaoruko to fake cutting off her cape (or whatever tf it is) to get a reaction out of Futaba.

Pointless metaphor.
and.. will this thing end with the whole fight being the play the 99th class play that they have been auditioning? They do mention that they want to try... different approaches.

Character-wise, the conclusion of this episode basically destroys all buildup Futaba had as a character in past 5 episodes.
Although at the least it does open room for the story to give her a more... honest buildup.

Kaoruko being cute...

I just noticed that Futaba went from bicycle to motorcycle...

Tap dancing? That's rare...

Kaoruko is getting cucked. She probably deserves it though since she's so full of herself...

Did Nana just take a picture of Kaoruko crying on the porch? That's brutal...

Junna ricocheting her arrow to knock off Kaoruko's medal? I call bullshit!

SPOILED!

Revue of Promise....and the soundtrack is mixing traditional Japanese with modern pop?

I loved the Japanese aesthetic, but the choreography could have been better...

I expected Futaba to win. Oh well. They could have done better with the drama here. Futaba should have gone all out and call out Kaoruko for being such a baby and being so full of herself. There are two steps to becoming the best. 1. Git gud. 2. After you git gud, you git gudder.

This was... an episode. Honestly, the whole series isn't bad, but I wouldn't put it on the recommend list. Part of why I'm not as enthusiastic is how shallow the resolution felt. We have this buildup of Kaoruko being a lazy, albeit talented person, and that's fine. Her arc was badly-handled, though. Too much of it felt like there was a lot of build, too little pay-off. I would have preferred she step on the train before Futaba arrived, the two catching a glimpse of each other as the train departs, and the review being Futaba getting a bit too aggressive and someone needing to talk her down from it. Instead, we got a "happy ending" that didn't feel deserved because, at the end of the episode, what has Kaoruko actually learned? She still leans heavily on Futaba to support her.

Also, is Banana-chan the only one investigating Giraffe-san?

"You've faced many life-and-death situations. But that does not make you an adult. Finding more fallen-out hairs on your pillow, watching your favorite stuffed-bread disappear from the convenience store... the accumulation of those little despairs is what makes a person an adult."-Nanami Kento

"When a piece of media is bad, it's much easier to nitpick the less significant things because they're seen as a part of the problem. Alternatively, it becomes more difficult to nitpick something like a masterpiece because even the flaws are seen as contributing to the overall quality of the media." -Paraphrasing Mauler

I found Kaoruko to be quite obnoxious this episode. But other than that, I like the show.

The point of the revue wasn't to develop Futaba, she was already working hard throughout the episode to get better, instead it was for Kaoruko to change, which they gave a small glimpse of by showing her be the first person to wake up the next day even tho the last 5 episodes Kaoruko never ever woke up period. (I think there was better ways to show it but w/e)

"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard" quote is true for the most part, but they showed the realistic part of it not being as easy as it sounds at all, Futaba coming from being the 30th in terms of talent in their class vs Kaoruko coming from a dancing household is not as easy as "work hard and you'll be better", or at least what I think.

What are the best subs for this anime? I've been putting up with the crap that HorribleSubs puts out but it's just not doing it for me. Should I go with ACSS, Chyuu-PAS or StarlightSubs?

Good episode, Kaoruko and Futaba are definitely better together.

I like the similarities in Futaba and Claudine when it comes to having someone stronger than them that they look for, no wonder they ended up getting closer and training together.

Next episode should be focused on Banana, hype!

I haven't tried the others, but I use the Chyuu-PAS subs and they are really good, they come out later than the rest tho.

only difference is I would add +1 to ACSS because their OP & ED has styled kfx subs which is an added effort on their end...

More character development. I don't like this episode so much. Basically, Kaoruko is being mean for no reason. I don't like it. At least the battle was good.

Ugh so childish, Futaba clearly deserves better. I didn't expect Kaoruko to have such attitude. So Futaba is a traitor because she didn't decided to stay at your poor level... sigh*

Being honest, this was my least favorite episode. Although the performances were great as usual and the OST is superb, the devopment for Futaba's character was kind of bad... or to say it better, it kind of ruined it... I mean, I was expecting a better motivation. Basically, she's taking part in the auditions only because of Kaoruko and Kaoruko mostly the same, she's participating to fulfill Futaba's expectations of her. I don't know whether I like this conclusion or not. This means Futaba is okay with the idea of just being Kaoruko's partner instead of thinking she's good enough to reach the top by herself.

And not to mention that in the end, Kaoruko, who doesn't take practices seriously, won over her... Yeah, I didn't like that, to be honest.

Most probably is that I'm just overthinking it but yeah, the episode conclusion was kind of bewildering.

P.S.: As an aside note, I liked that both Claudine and Tendou actually helps their classmates instead of taking advantage of the situation. It's nice.

I was hoping for Futaba to defeat Kaoroku since she was definitely on the wrong, but the shows seems to like their unequal relationship.

I dunno which episode has been worse, this one or the previous one.

First bad episode of this show, with the resolution feeling wholly undeserved as the lazy, selfish Kaoruko gets to have her cake, eat it too and then some. She didn't want to quit, only tried to leave to kick up a fuss and make Futaba care about her over Claudine again; the fact that she got what she wanted feels wrong and teaches the character literally nothing. Instead, her terrible behavious is only enabled and justified going forwards, and I'm very disappointed that's the resolution the show decided on. Now she can continue to lean on Futaba as if none of this ever happened, raising the question of why it even did in the first place.

Oh, and way to trample on most of Futaba's character development so far by restoring the status quo between her and Kaoruko like this.

The less Karen and Hikari there is in an episode, the better it is. This one is probably the best one yet and I loved the previous one too (Karen was important in that ep, but it was Mahiru-focused so it was good).
