The best thing that I got is that Starlight Gatherer might not precisely be the Starlight of opera play. Something that happens very normally in opera (the script for the opera version being different than the book it was inspired from is normal. Bcs art. It also happens all the time in anime.)
Although I did find the reason why everyone, especially Karen, managed to remember the audition again (and thus the song scene.)
Hikari didn't change the story. The script we've been presented for the past 10 episodes is the script for 99th class 99th year show. On the real story (Starlight Gatherer) the ending is Claire being imprisoned forever.
My original impression was right. They force-slotted this new fact so that the story can have this ending. Heuh....

I have this habit with every anime, I always watch them at least twice (sub no sub.)
Once for pure enjoyment. And the second for commenting and thinking about it.
Although in Starlight's case, I lost count of how many times I've watched every episode lol.
Actually for Revue's case I end up preferring to watch raw instead and trust my own understanding of it lol.
