Haha, that bowing scene was good. So he did pick the correct guy for emperor, interesting. But man, does he have a rough life. His music teacher pats him (admittedly that was creepy) and dies soon after. I'm now worrying for Sugimoto's life!

yeah...hehe...I hope they continue this anime and conclude the black kirins story someday
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

hmmm... It's kinda getting confusing for now, but did he really choose the wrong king or not. Also why he's forgetting everything...

I don't get it right. He choosed the right guy and what about the ouki ?
And most of all why couldn't he stop bowing to that other king ?

I don't quite like this whole idea of a Kirin having to choose a king/queen because of the revelation even if they're not fit to be rulers (like that queen). What's the point then? Apart from that, this episode nicely wrapped this arc up (though some questions are left unanswered but I assume will be addressed in the arcs to come), let's hope we return to the main story now.

I think you got it completely around. It's not that he couldn't stop bowing, it's he couldn't bow to the other king no matter how hard he tried.

Bowing is when your head touches the ground, which he couldn't do.

It's impossible for a kirin to bow towards another person who isn't the chosen emperor, meaning it's completely impossible to choose the wrong emperor. The fact that he was able to bow towards the white hair general in the first place means he has chosen the right guy. Everyone tried to make him realize this with this prank.

And Taiki did get the ouki the first time he laid eyes on the general, that's why he was scared. He thought he was scared of the general's eyes, but he was actually scared at the fact that he had to face his destiny and choose him.

Right? I'm wondering about that too...maybe it's something like a part of some bigger picture, the concept of destiny, if you will...things need to go their predetermined ways in order to ultimately end up the best as possible? They needed Jouei (or what's her face) to fill the gap before Youko, who is - or rather, is going to become - probably the best possible ruler, being the main character and all ;) Just throwing guesses here. Enki had to go all the way to Japan to find someone that would lead his kingdom for the prosperous years to come, for example. And finding him accidentally among all the Earth's people - seems like destiny to me. Either that or let him gamble, cause the odds love him.

If you do not wish to leave, it will become a fortress.

Its funny now no one wants Sugimoto to die. After all that we don't get the answer as to why Taiki went back to Japan and lost his memory, nor why everyone keeps dying around him.

Iirc, when Taiki returned to Japan, he had a wound on his forehead. Maybe his horns got damaged? That's probably the reason why he can't remember he's a kirin and it's also possible his powers are out of control that's why his Shirei killed people. I hope we get to see what really happened to him.

Lol I kind of loved that little trick they planned to make him bow.
Really clever too because it probably would have impossible to make him understand that a Kirin can't make "the wrong choice".

So just about everyone around him dies hmmm well I feel like Sugimoto wouldn't die even if you killed her...

I guess that's the end of this mini arc. I enjoyed it a lot; the characters were likeable and there were some great moments (like the bowing scene in this episode), but still I'm eager to get back to Youko's story. Why Taiki is in Japan was left unexplained for now, but I assume they'll continue showing things little by little in the following episodes.

I doubt his shirei would target her again, honestly. A few episodes back while Sugimoto was leaving his house, Sanshi stopped her and asked her if she was an enemy, to which she replied that she is "a friend of Queen Kei". If his shirei were going to kill her, it would have been then. His shirei are definitely out of control though.
Matsuoka Yoshitsugu has hardly any range as a voice actor, and is grossly over-cast.

Yeah. I said it.

This was a really, really interesting episode. Taiki choose the next ruler, but how much of that was of his own decision? How much of it was preordained or brought about by instinct? Keiki mentioned before that the nature of a kirin is ingrained within their instincts, so the act of choosing the next ruler was as natural as walking. I just happens.

So, how much do the heavens in this anime affect the world? As a literal, tangible force, are the tragedies and misfortunes brought on by previous rulers also a result of the heavens? Exactly what is this all leading towards? How much choice actually exists in this world? What is the point of learning, growth, and decision making if everything is preset to occur anyways? Or, is it that every choice the characters make leading up to the end, and the only thing they can change is how they arrive at that end?

Fate's an interesting thought to ponder over, and it's been a while since I've seen an anime really dig into it.

I get the feeling the Nyoukai is the one killing people who interact with Taiki. The white hand is reminiscent of the way she approached him to kidnap him in the first place.

Also, I'm watching the dub and the majority of this episode was spent being bothered by how familiar Taiki's voice sounds - it's Jonny Yong Bosch, obviously. No wonder he sounded familiar.

well really old post, but something that comes to mind is, maybe she had to be queen in order for him to be the right kirin for the next queen. The stuff he taught him helped him later.

Not much doing there for this arc, but at least it was mercifully short.

Well, that was underwhelming conclusion to the elusive Kirin of Tai story arc that leaves me upset at being still in the complete dark in understanding the events that leaves us asking the same question, what happened to Taiki. Leaving no clues whatsoever to what conflict left him back in Japan is just bad storytelling as his comprehensive arc was not only missing a conclusion but also establishes a lasting frustration for the audience abandoned to any climatic relief to this crucial character's coming of age story. Although, I think Taiki will get some story completion and character fulfillment eventually, it should have been done in a more sensible and dedicated manner. Over, I give this six episode arc- 7/10.

so things back in Tai worked out in the end. what happened to King Tai tho and how's Taiki back in Japan and amnesiac?

it sounded like the music teacher wanted to groom him; I don't blame his nyoukai for overreacting (remember, she slashed a young girl's cheek simply for grabbing Taiki by the hand)
