Okay now that's certain, Koyomimonogatari's episodes actually have an impact on the rest of the series. Not only did we get foreshadowing for Nadeko Medusa (though is that really foreshadowing if we get it after having seen the event ?), but it also looks like Araragi's conversation with Nadeko led her to be comforted in her own delusions. Maybe if he didn't tell her all that, she wouldn't have been so sure about herself ? Which has me thinking, maybe Ougi wanted for Araragi to tell this enigma to Nadeko, in order to get a reaction from her ? Nah I might be overthinking on this part. But still, I'm keeping this in mind, we don't know what can happen.
And now speaking of Ougi (once again confirmed best girl/boy/everything, she is just fascinating). The moment I saw that was an Ougi episode I knew it wouldn't be a simple little riddle with a little message like what we got in the rest of this season. I knew I would have to use my brain, stop all the time in order not to miss any information, and reflect on everything. And I was totally right.
Other than the whole thing about the temple and Nadeko, we once again got some hints about Ougi herself. Specifically, it seems that it is now confirmed she is an oddity, considering what she said at the beginning about how she feels at ease on the mountain because it is the home of gods which is close to being some sanctuary for oddities. The fact that she is one isn't surprising at all, however Araragi clearly doesn't know about it, the fact that he once again refers to her as a simple high-schooler is enough to prove it. So is that once again him refusing to see what's obvious or is it something else ?
Another hint is that she noticed the temple's atmosphere is pure, whereas Araragi didn't. Of course if she is an oddity she'd notice these kind of things.
Another thing that proves Ougi is an oddity is that she seems to have some superhuman capacities. She wasn't tired at all when climbing the mountain (unlike Araragi who was dying a bit more with each step), and even more : she climbed to the temple's roof just like it was nothing. And Araragi said/thought something interesting : "like a monkey, or a cat". That's true, and what is also true is that both the monkey and the cat are oddities.
Could it be that Ougi is related to them ? Well, after all I'm still having that oddity-cluster thingy from Shinobu Mail in mind and I definitely didn't forget how similar it was to the Darkness. Maybe I'm also overthinking right now, but maybe I'm onto something.
And speaking of the Darkness, it reminds me of how Ougi once again pretty much confirmed her role has something to do with the world's balance, which not only gives even more hints about her but also seems to even more confirm her as being related to the Darkness since preventing chaos is pretty much what that thing is doing (granted, in an extreme way, but Ougi is pretty extreme too).
Finally, not necessarily related to Ougi herself (though it might actually be), but I found this thing about how two opposite /different (I can't remember which was the exact term) things shouldn't be put together to be interesting. Interesting in a philosophical kind of way, but not only. I feel like we're supposed to make a parallel between that and the relationship between characters. Which is why it might still have something to do with Ougi : maybe the parallel has to be made with her relationship with Araragi. But I'm also considering it having something to do with Nadeko instead so I'm not sure.
Well, I'm definitely gonna rewatch this episode because there was quite a lot to take in account, so maybe I'll come up with new things and some of my questions will have their answers. |
