I wonder can Alderamin become no.1 next year if the anime done well.(even though most points of Alderamin are from collaborators currently)

From the amazon review, "Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka?" seems a lot better than "Eirun: Last Code".

You know, it feels very refreshing to see one of best female characters is not from Index, SAO or Yahari. Also, poor Morihashi Bingo didn't get an entry this year.

Japanese magazine polls really do have the most boring unbudging results to the point where it might as well all just be a formality. All vote bloc, no real consideration for category, just whatever work is most popular it's virtually the same across the board. Really there's just about no point in having more than a couple categories like most popular novel series and combined character ranks and even then it's probably mostly going to look almost bloc for bloc the same so you might as well just do most popular novel series and be done with it as it'll tell you about all you need to know to figure out the rest. It's just like...boring and uninteresting.

Okay I lied, one thing I do find interesting and telling is that it's about the only poll I'll ever see where the female ranking is listed before the male one which makes sense since having an appealing female lead/character design is pretty crucial to a light novels success. Some might argue it's the key factor.

Hell Yeah! Oregairu.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

There's no such thing as "objectively good", what's "good" depends on your preferences. Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi are just popularity rankings. It seems that a lot of Japanese just prefer what you don't and that's okay.

Didn't read the OP and just saw the ranking. Now that I read the OP again, yeah, this seems to be popularity. But why internet poll instead of just using sales?

Best LN in the top 10 afaik. sukasuka is a new title with three volumes over one year that almost got cancelled several times due to poor sales. It's a miracle it's still here, and it's a beautiful story. Volume 2 for example on amazon has nothing but 5 star ratings. Not a single lower rating. Everyone is praising it and I agree, this is far too good to be interrupted.

Alderamin was very good as usual. One of the best military work I've read, and the characters are really likeable, and well developed. Nice

It's a mix between popularity votes and professional votes actually, for the novel poll only. So the top has some works that aren't popular. Professional of the novel industry are basically competing with the regular voters.
The characters/illustrators are popularity only.

Last volume sold over 12k before exiting the ranking indeed. Before that the best was at 7k, sometimes far less depending on the day of the week the release was.
Last volume wasn't released after the end of the anime however, so it's hard to say how much it sold in reality, since the volumes continued to sell (but not enough to appear in the rankings with sale number) every week afterwards. We'll have to wait for the volume 7 to see how much RnY sells after the anime. Most probably 15k +, but we'll see.

Ahhhh I misread indeed.

Well it's a WN originally iirc right? most WN don't make it in the list. That's because peoples are voting to what impressed them the most the past year among the new volumes, but for WN, lots of peoples have already read them online before that, so the impression left even if they re-read them after they get published as LN is far lower.

Well the LN versions are usually more polished and sometimes even different but I see.It kinda does make sense as far as only impressions from last year go, since people woudn't count the impression they got on that certain series if they read it's Web version earlier-is that how it works?

Well that poll is asking what you find was the most impressive/bestamong novels published this last year.Obviously lots of peopels are just going to vote like mob for their favourite series without caring if the volume of this year were good enough to justify it. I mean look at Index still in the top 10 for example.
But still, even if WN are more polished in LN format, the story in itself will not surprise them again, so the chances are high that except for hardcore fans of a specific series, that title will not come to mind when they're voting. THey can only vote for 5 titles too.
If you look at the ranking, even though Overlord sold like crazy during the adaptation (ranked in weekly sales 19 times in row), it's still ranked lower than Rokka, who also had an anime this year but didn't even sell enough to have its older volumes rank one single week in the ranking this year. Overlord is originally a Wn, whereas rokka is not. This is definitely playing a role.

yakami95 said:

The ranking concern the volumes released on the last one year period of time. IF a series wasn't that good but that the last few volumes published were far better for example, it deserves to be higher. For example NGNL volume 6 was far FAR better than the previous one. And last year it ranked very high. That was fully deserved. It's less deserved this year, but volume 7 was stil better than volumes 1-5 imo.
As such, what is ranked here about SAO are the last current volumes of the alicization arc. Which are said to be quite better than the previous arc (I don't know, didn't read them). Obviously still, SAO is the LN that sells the most currently. SO you're going to have peoples voting for it just because they're fan, just like Index.

Not really. What you said would work if what they're trying to sell is the anime itself, but that's not the case. The anime is here as a costly advertisement for the original material. It's here to make the original material be bought more. Two seasons too close of each other will have far less effect than 2 seasons spaced enough in time.
If you make them too close, there's a risk that peoples will just wait for the second season rather than buying to know what happen next. And on top of this, a second season too close of the first will be watched by mostly the same peoples. Chances are high that it won't catch a lot more of new readers than one season caught (putting aside a story where the second season has far better moment than the first one for example). It's better to wait for the anime boost of the first season to start to die down, and then push it back high with a second season at the right time.

Note that currently Index' sales have been declining quite a bit AFAIK (well the last few volumes has been extremely deceiving too...) . So since the initial quote was about Index, on the contrary, Index' sales shows that we have a good chances to get a index s3 announcement next year.

I'm sure japanese marketing knows the term 'strike when the iron is hot'.
Waiting until your product isn't all that popular anymore makes little sense from a buisness standpoint. Keeping your product relevant and visible to your customers is one of your top priorities.

Good points. I looked at it from the entirely wrong angle.
But for example the Railgun BDs sold really well and I'd even assume they made a profit on disc sales alone.
I feel like calling another season just a 'costly advertisement' would be underestimating it.
