After watching ep 3 i cam to notice that this shows gets goofy all the time and it's a good thing and it also get serious immediately if nessasary so it does not feel forced in any manner I like where the story is heading and I kinda know the ending (this anime is like half of 80s anime story)but still it I like it so damn much and craving for more..

That Ox Demon surely was something, but Shizuku and Tokiyuki defeated him with no problems.

Yorishige Suwa is helping out Tokiyuki to get stronger along with others to restore Kamakura shogunate destroyed by Takauji Ashikaga. He will be a great warrior and Ayako + Kojiro are his best allies. The ED theme is awesome, I love it so much.

I really expect for this anime to be the best anime of Summer 2024 season, it has a lot of potential.

A pretty dang good three episode run for this one. I am loving the nostalgic vibes I feel when I watch it. Reminds me of the days when I was flipping through obscure anime dvds at my local trade in store in the early 00s.

I had fun watching this one. I'm relieved that the weirdo is now established as a non-human entity. Makes him funnier and less disturbing to me. There were other humor choices I appreciated this episode too.

I hated that they called the boar an ox. Seriously annoying. But I'm over it now. The thing is dead. No other real complaints this time. I hope the trend continues.

The first 10 minutes or so I was surprised Suwa seemed a little less obnoxious and toned down, but he came roaring back in the second half. I did like the gag about use his future sight to dig holes to trap Tokiyuki, though.

Some nice animation and I appreciated building a little camaraderie with the retainers. Really piled on the supernatural not just with Suwa's powers but a full on demon. The demon hunt wasn't quite up to the action of past episodes, but was still fun and it was neat to see them apply strategy on the fly to take it out.

About the bath scene

They are wearing clothes has nothing to do with the regulation of expression.
Japanese people of this period wore clothes for bathing.
They began to bathe naked more than 200 years after this story.

This work seems to be a joke, but it is quite serious in its research.

Few funny moments, but I think the comedy done by the father usually over the top and not all that funny at times. But I do like the anime style, so I will keep on watching

I liked the layout of this episode much better as the outcome is more harmonious. But still the blank face of the MC in a few scenes makes me sad.

The opening for this show is just way too good, best one of the season.
And I like how Goku appears out of nowhere lol

Good job with that retainer girl picking out their name and also great job on the teamwork they did planned by Shizuku to kill the boar although too bad her father ate it lol (did he really eat the whole damn boar??) Also, such a random DB reference that I was not expecting.

Nice DB reference, but you know, I was under the assumption this was serious show or whatever. But ig whenever Yorishige is on screen that's out the window.

Nice animation as usual. Only saving grace for this tbh.

I think this episode was meant to bring us closer to the characters, as not much actually happened. However, it remains visually interesting.

All representations, not just bathing scenes, are a mixture of fact and fiction.

Have you ever seen a site in which a man or a woman dressed in white is being bathed in a gushing, cold waterfall? That is a religious practice to purify own body, sins, and evil thoughts. The act of immersing oneself in water with an undyed robe (in the case of women, with a hakama in vermilion that keeps away evil spirits) is a sacred ritual of ablution.

Ancient Japanese bathrooms are steam baths. Originally installed in Buddhist temples, these facilities lost their religious significance and were placed into the residences of aristocrats.
However, it is reported that the frequency of bathing for adults of upper status, such as aristocrats, senior warriors, and priests who do not engage in physical labor, is once or twice a month. It was believed that hot and cold baths disturbed the body's inner currents and were detrimental to health, so people bathed only on days when fortune-telling recommended it. Just as perfume was developed to mask body odor in pre-modern France, where the custom of bathing was neglected, the culture of incense became popular in Japan at these times.
The common people spent their days soaking in the river or rubbing themselves with a cloth wrung out of water.

It was not unnatural that children, like who wanted to play tag, bathe bare naked in the open air, boys nor girls. Teenagers should be more conscious of moderation and discretion, but the norms of these times were generally more tolerant than the present. The distinction between adults and minors was much stricter than today (There was no intermediate period, as same as the Western). However, the boundary was not defined by her/his age, uniformly.

Therefore, it is not accurate to interpret the scene as we see it as "When washing off their sweat, Japanese people of this period was bathing in a hot spring with their clothes still on, always".
These cuts can be read as a fantasy depicting the congeniality of sweaty immature bunch in a open-air spring which is protected by the sanctuary of Suwa-taisha Shrine. ⛩️♨️
Regulations, of course, are also in effect. ;)

🐽 «Ushi-oni (or Gyuuki) Botan» -- We judged it to be a wild boar by its looks (Kojiro called it «buta yarou», a swine badass). The «Ushi-oni» is a monster with the head of a ox that is said to be in Hell and suffer souls of sinners. So, is this a wild animal that exists in the real world of the Middle Ages, or is it a supernatural being? *

The perspective of this work is "the world as people believed it to be at that time" (Yorishige? That dude is an exception). Fever is caused by inner current or by natural spirits, not viruses. It is a more "thorough death" to drop a person's head than to strangle or pierce his heart. The dead person is reborn in different appearance or circumstances according to the deeds done before birth and without memory of past life. -- There is no distinction between wild animals and monsters in that they are as threats from in the middle of nowhere.

For the majority of Japanese people of this period, there was almost no distinction between a wild hog and a deer (SHIKA!!🦌). Since the severe wild is secluded from villages, people did not have many chances to encounter the beasts. The wild animals were regarded as "divine messengers" why brought both threat and blessing of nourishment.
As Tokiyuki questioned, meat eating has been avoided because of the precepts against killing. In reality, however, it has never ceased in the history of the Japanese people. The fewer the number of legs of a creature, the less taboo it was. Hares were eaten on the pretext that they were a kind of bird. Cattle and horses were kept for riding and labor, the meat and milk were not taken from them (pigs were kept in private homes in the Ryukyu Kingdom, which had not yet belonged to Japan at this time). Hunting and eating wild animals continued to be done informally and without punishment, but the lack of preservation techniques other than drying and smoking limited consumption almost exclusively to the mountain dwellers (which also contributed to the discrimination they suffered).
When a person perceives the world she is in, she can only rely on their imagination. Even today, there are always limitations, prejudices, misconceptions and superstitions. But I suppose each era also has its distinctive richness of world.

*) According to Shizuku's guess, this beast is "the sole survivor of an ancient creature that fell into evil in solitude". In the story, it served to emphasize the strength of Tokiyuki, who had begun to organize his followers.

**) «Botan» (牡丹) is a peony flower. About 600 years after the age of Tokiyuki, about 120 years before since now, a boar meat hot pot dish was invented during army's field drill. About 90 years ago, it began to be called «Botan Nabe». They say that it comes from the arrangement of boar meat before cooking, which is served in the shape of a peony petals.

The so-called "comedy" ruins this anime.

A shame as the animation is phenomenal, the art style is beautiful and the plot is interesting but the over-the-top comedy means I'm now watching it on double speed. Too annoying.

In this episode Tokiyuki has the opportunity to spend more time with his new friends.

That Suwa scene turning into Goku summoning the spirit bomb was hilarious.
Good to see that Tokiyuki has reliable retainers who will fight for him.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

So new around here, still not sure what to write. Anyway.

3 episode rule i suppose.

End of last episode I, like many, had concerns. End of this episode the direction feels positive, the characters got more rounded out and reasonable after the hectic first act. No doubt many more D20 feats to come and that will be the fun of it.

I like the chopped up animation styles and still pans. You may not. I also enjoyed The Fire Hunter - so I have a track record of liking odd animation.

Dropping. Gave it the 3 episode rule but can't go any further. I hate the "comedy" and hate that priest with passion of a thousand suns. Does not mesh with the darker parts of the show at all and makes it so I don't care about anything that is happening. The overthrow and murder of his family is just a joke.
