At first it felt a little uncomfortable for me to see two identical twins, who are 99% identical down to the clothes (I think the difference is just in their voices) together like that, doing all those things together... but then that Steve Jobs joke and the massage scene came up! I laughed xD

It's a bit eerie especially with that background music, but light jokes like that are good to break the atmosphere.

Oh and! I didn't realize it was a fake dog... at first I thought "Hitori" was so bishounen that even the dog was speechless looking at him but it turns out it wasn't a dog from the beginning :'D

I haven't had so much interest in a seasonal anime in a long time, to be honest. I loved the eerie atmosphere and the bizarre comedy. For some reason, it was always funny seeing Migi or Dali hiding in an obvious spot in the house, listening to what's going on. And all the horror buildup leading to actually wholesome moments was the best part. I still don't know if this will turn into a horror or something else, but I really hope it won't.
Oh, God - the lives people try to lead. Oh, God - what a world they try to lead them in!

As someone who's read the entire manga this was fantastic! Loved all the voices and the animation was so cute!

I hope we get the full thing adapted!

Also for the people calling it strange now, y'all ain't seen nothing yet!

@LyingMuse THIS. i've read manga as well and i was pretty shocked they will turn this into anime because the plot is... unusual. but after the first episode, i'll wait for another episodes for sure

Dang....that's one creepy set of twins. I honestly thought they were going to kill them and eat them......but who knows. I also sense yaoi vibes coming from those two, some love action would be nice..... ;)

@oldotakudude don't get your hopes up. This won't go into the incest direction. From now on, you'll only be witnessing a wholesome twin siblings adventure.

The setting doesn't look Japanese but all the books were in Japanese. Also how in the world did the couple get fooled by the fake rain and not notice the other when they weren't even hiding that well!? How come the orphanage didn't notice that the twin that was not adopted is missing?

Edit: Checked the names of the character, they are Japanese but they don't look Japanese at all, even the name of the town doesn't sound Japanese, now I'm even more confused @_@

Their act is unsettlingly weird and at the same time stupidly contrived

But I feel compelled to keep watching to see were it will go over at least the next few episodes.

Creepy af. I'm worried for that poor couple.

They're twins, but are we sure they're both boys? I have to wonder about the orphanage. Were they 1 the entire time.

Halfway through the episode, I was considering dropping it.

But...

It's just so weird, I need answers! The combination of unsettling and wholesome is just too unique to ignore. I just hope there is a payoff sometime by the end.
@ScorpioArete So was I. When the one crawled under the dinner table unnoticed, I was grumbling. After the switch off I thought I was done, but it's like a car wreck. This my rubbernecking anime. I can't look away.

This is really weird. I mean the premise isn't weird it just is the delivery of creepiness and humour at the same time is an unusual combination. They really are manipulative.

I was delighted when I found out that an anime by the creator of Sakamoto Days would be released. Honestly, I didn't know that Nami Sano published the Migi & Dali manga series, but I would love to watch the anime. From my point of view, it is a very strange and psychological anime, the characters are very clever and intelligent, from the very beginning we have a motive that is not yet explained, why did they want to get to Origon so much? Was the woman at the beginning of the film their Mother and is this their motive to discover what really happened to her? and does it have something to do with the village they really wanted to get to? There are a lot of things left unexplained and I'm already starting to theorize about the whole plot, I'm looking forward to the next episode, which may tell us something more about the twins' plans.

lol, my favorite anime so far this season. Absolutely hilarious and incredibly weird. The exaggerated dialogue works so well in this one. Two identical twin boys trying to manipulate their new adoptive family and keep the fact that they're twins a secret, I didn't know something like that be so incredibly entertaining.

What the hell, this is so damn funny and creepy and kinda Wholesome?

Couple things to note
1) the couple made jambalaya, which is a southern creole food (very tasty!).
2) "You're not Steve Jobs!"
3)"Shit! I'm bad at switching back and forth!"
4) the after credits scene revealing just how calculating these twins are.
5) they named their persona "Hitori", which means "one" in Japanese. It is so on the nose lmao.
6) they are both boys, it seems. I thought one of twins was a girl, given how androgynous they look. Migi & Dali seem like gender neutral names.
7) the names Migi and Dali might be similar to the Japanese words for left and right. Left in Japanese is "hidari" and Right is "Migi". Dali is somewhat similar to "hidari".
8) great OP, it's so damn creepy and entertaining
9) what revenge plot do these guys have going on, what does it have to do with the necklace? Did the couple kill their biological parents or something?
10) I wonder why it takes place in the 90s?
11) I've also seen comparisons to 2004 anime Monster, which I have only read the manga. Monster also has a creepy blonde twin thing going on, so I get the comparisons.
12) why are the parents so damn stupid not to notice? Well, they are elderly so their hearing and sight is not at peak condition. I also kinda assumed that they are just so self-absorbed that they don't really care about much other than themselves.

This is a fun anime, I really like it!
@erikkamirs in regards of no.7, when I was reading the manga the first two chapters were quite hard, trying to guess who was who ahaha later I realized Migi is the one with bangs to the right and Dali the one with bangs to the left so from then on it was easy to follow them!

As someone that already read the manga I really liked this first episode! It's close to what happens in the manga and it's easy to understand their weirs moves, for which I'm happy! (that part with the bird house got my brain messed up in the manga, as well as the change in the table)
I always like when Ayumu and Hori are put together in a franchise so Im super excited for the rest of this anime!
If you like mistery and comedy you have to watch this show, just imagine a real 13 y.o trying to solve a huge case, how funny can that be!

I'm calling this the hidden gem for the fall season aside from the weird incest vibes the twins give. But the story is jojo like in the weirdness, but entertaining yet wholesome.

I pray the parents aren't sickos or perverts please make them pure!!! You can't make me watch an old man get his back blown out by a thirteen year old and have it revealed he is some sick fuck.

sidenote I bust out laughing at the women's Steve Jobs comment. that was the last thing I expected to hear from an anime. 😂

I liked all the Sakamoto-esque so-awesome-it's-stupid physical comedy (twin edition). I know it's gonna be darker and more story-focused and not just pure humor. I just hope the four of them can live as a happy family in the end.

While the motives are unknown, it is unclear what is happening. It's wild, disgusting, no sympathy for the characters in the first minutes of the story. It looks like Orphan, where Esther turned a similar game.

Very weird show.
Righty and Lefty are strange as hell and are obviously weird masterminds. (Migi = Right, Dari ~= Hidari = Left)

One thing though, the Steve Jobs line feels anachronistic for 1990. I wasn't alive then but I don't remember him being in daily language until iPhones.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. This show seems to bath in the strangeness. Instead of going with the very practical and safe "I need to use the bathroom" switch during dinner, they had some insane gymnastics routine set up.

imma be real. i have seriously mixed feelings about this. Like it's not "cringe" but like... i physically wince at some of these scenes because my body doesn't know how to react. It's just... weird? But it's because of the progression that makes it weird. Like the idea of twins switching places to be adopted is solid start. But like all the weird switching places like at the table, and the devious and manipulative behavior they exhibit, not for malicious acts but, to fulfill their adoptive parents wishes. Btw I'm interested to see how that adoption form filling out went because they obviously would not have signed for two kids but yet they both went. Like did the people running the foster home not notice?? or like not mention the fuckin twin at all? I originally thought they like had been doing that their whole life on purpose for some reason but that's disproved at the end when they show them both just feelin up a crude clay dog at the end of the episode.

all in all, I'd personally say Idk how i feel... can't say for sure yet, but it's definitely not like up on my list. That being said, from an unbiased view, this is clearly a strong 8/10 at the least. It's unfortunate Nami Sano has passed so young recently from cancer, but it is clear she was a fantastic writer. Yea it's weird, but from what I've seen this seems truly like an artwork. Unique and creative story and characters, and an unpredictable progression. It's unfortunate people are rating it poor, i presume, just because it's atypical. I mean studio ghibli is world renowned and they're weird too

Only 11,000 MAL users on this one seems wild! This is one of the coolest premises in recent anime. A pair of conniving twins taking masquerading as helpless orphans and finessing of an elderly couple?? I’m intrigued.

A twisted and utterly deranged story that you can’t take your eyes away from. It’s got a Wes Anderson/Series of unfortunate events style of creepy humour to it. That pummel and knead massaging scene was so odd. I like it. It’s a shame that Sano sensei wasn’t able to see this brought to life in anime form.

“You’re not Steve jobs” Lmaoo. Always nice when characters in anime say what the audience is thinking

I like the first episode quite a bit. The challenge here will be how they’re able to keep things interesting. Will an overall plot be introduced or is it going to continue in an episode of manner? I like the behind the scenes planning of the plot to get abducted that we get in the post credits scene.

This show is just so damn weird in a good way though. People ask for original stuff all the time and this seems like it’ll be one.

this is exactly how i feel. It's like uncanny almost. It just makes you feel uncomfortable like when you watch those murdered documentaries or something. But really I feel like this transcends anime though. Like personally? Idk how i feel. Interested, but it's a afterthought at best for me. But from the first episode, it just kinda feels like something that could become mainstream like one of those weird studio ghibli films

I am... confused.
It was interesting seeing how they manipulated situations and swapped places. But at the same time, it seems overly convoluted and complicated. And the creepy vibes that feel forced? Yet also undeserved at the same time? Yet also deserved somehow.
So much conflicting feelings.
I'll stick around to watch another episode, but... what is their goal, exactly? It just seems like being creepy twins for the sake of being creepy twins, and if that's it, then I'm not really interested.
