lol, so it DID indeed end like I predicted in the previous episode!

We got Lev revealing Irina. People accepting vampires. The government being ok with all of this.

Kind of weak and too good to be true of an ending. First, Irina would've been killed hundreds of times before she would ever reach the stairs on the square. Second, Lev would be labeled as traitor and have an "accident" and die soon. In the real soviet union, they wouldn't do shit LIVE. They would air a recording with a 15-30min delay to prevent this exact thing.

Oh well, as corny as it was, I'm happy for Irina and Lev anyways. It's a fairytale ending, but I guess I shouldn't be mad about them...

Would've given this 9/10, but the ending should've been executed better IMO.

the happy ending feels kind of superficial since Zirnitra is an obvious analogy to USSR. it's just hard to imagine this sort of development to pass in real USSR (or any other totalitarian regime for that matter); it would have been more realistic if everyone just got GULAG'ed

Well, everything is game over for those old man on the top once they decide to live broadcast it for the world to see lol. If they record it instead of going live, they can still edit the bad part. Also, because vampires seems to be discriminated outside UZSR too, at least they managed to roast UK/US and other countries by 'claiming' that vampires have a better life in UZSR.

I was hoping they would at least kiss and as it doesnt seem romance enough in the end

Weak ending. Needed a more cathartic resolution for both Irina and Lev reunion/romance and all the political struggles that went behind the scene. Not to mention, the animation quality was pretty inconsistent in this last chapter.

Overall, a really enjoyable series with a lot of endearing characters and beautiful moments. I hope they announce a 2nd season asap. Also, Irina's voice actress really nailed it!

I was dreading another sad ending due to all the death symbolism in the OP (Lycoris which is also her callsign). But we got a happy and hopeful ending.

Also great that they are still applying that filter when we see things from Irina's point of view. The harsh sun rays are shining upon her.

Interestingly, the United Kingdom of Arnack has dhampirs (half-vampires) but relegates them to a specific residential zone (a ghetto), they are also watching the broadcast. Irina's rarely mentioned homeland, Lilitto has empty streets (I'm guessing the name is derived from Lilith. I am curious which real life SSR Lilitto corresponds to if Zirnitra is Russia).

Lev had enough of beating around the bush like he did last episode (copying Irina's thoughts on seeing the Earth from space and speaking a phrase only she would understand). Having won favour with the Fyodor, he says it plain and simple to the crowd; he was the second cosmonaut, and a vampire was the first. Fully bringing justice to Irina instead of holding it in.

Anya headbutt!

I was honestly half-expecting Irina to be tsundere again and say something dumb to Lev, but after going through the sunlight that burns her and the anti-Vampire humans, she had her thoughts on the bigger picture. She stated the blunt truth that she hated humans aft first but has learnt to appreciate Lev helping her becoming a cosmonaut. Making Zirnitra's next target the moon is a goal all of them, human and vampire alike can get behind.

Lyudmilla had statements prepared for Fyodor depending on what Lev would say. Lev went with revealing the truth so they spun it to knock on the UK's anti-dhampir policies and expose the anti-vampire "Delivery Crew".

"If you kill Irina, I'll kill the rocket." lmao

With Lev summarizing the series' "borders can't be seen from space" message, we flash forward through the world's history, which shows an aerial view of the UK's Vehicle Assembly Building (completed in 1966 in real life), a human astronaut in an Apollo-era spacesuit with a human and dhampir scientists.

Back in Zirnitra, Roza and Mikhail became the next cosmonauts following Irina and Lev. Vampires in Lilitto are smiling.

Finally there's a shot of their world's equivalent of the ISS, demonstrating the cooperation between Zirnitra and Arnack that Lev wished for.

The ending was too happy for my liking. The hopefulness of it somehow works to portray a message of diversity and freedom, but it works against the own setting of the story. In theory, the same message could have been done with something more faithful to the politics, but I suppose that a happy ending delivers a less problematic approach and the romance sailing. Maybe the main problem is the premise, why would you hide the vampires in the first place? The resolution seems like something that didn't exploit such concept, because it vaguely says "Well yeah we hide this girl because we weak against these guys, our bad", which shouldnt be a good image, I guess?
Anyways, the episode was wholesome and safe, it delivered the emotional message but it ended up flattening the potential of using a totalitarian regime mixed with discrimination to reduce the dramatic perspective. I will remember this anime because of the beautifully gestured scenes with otherwordly imagery, and the textured yet troupey characters, the ending just didnt adjust to the potential

I felt a bit of cringe at the speech. Not going to lie, I'm not accustomed to romantic anime series, but... this was just too good to let it slip. My disdain for rom(com)s and the like is not greater than my love for space, ehe.

A good move from the Secretary-General (or, going by the official records (as he is inspired in Nikita Khruschov (even more confirmed by his assertion that purges were a thing of the past)), First Secretary). It is true that there were many internal power struggles in the USSR, especially with the NKVD. Blaming the "Delivery Crew" for that was a very smart move from his part.

Well, a fine anime series. An interesting plot, some endearing characters, a good setting (it's good that they made some allusions to the opression in the USSR), a superb soundtrack. Overall, very enjoyable. It doesn't land far from an 8/10, though I cannot say if it's a solid one. Maybe it is.

(At the end they showed the ISS and a cosmonaut was using the Union's emblem. But the ISS was launched in 1998. So the Union never dissolved?

Still, the cringe...
And no kiss, or even a neck bite...
Well, it can't be helped.

I do hope we get a second season.

Im just glad Megumi Hayashibara got to play such a honey on a show this small. She did such a great job. Really made Irina I think. I hope there's another season or a spin off for them, from the ending and how hard this got slept on I really doubt it though.

And that's the strongest show of this season done. Good ending, leaves lots of hints and threads for a sequel but also works fine if it were to stop here. More shows need to plan themselves that way.

Very satisfied with how they recontextualised Fyodor and Lyudmilla's earlier actions, as well as surreptitiously dropping some worldbuilding for the UK side.

Not much more to say, just a well-written and well-produced piece all around.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

I really liked this show but that episode was way too cheesy. And the "welp cats out of the bag now everyone loves vampires and here's a happy montage of how the whole world likes them now" 9_9 just revealed all this shows flaws all at once. The repressive controlling regime being so easily thwarted (yeah they explained it was a little coup blondie had been setting up but it wasn't very convincing), the whole vampire as just an oppressed "race" really didn't work either especially when they flip flopped on the blood sucking (no we just do it to animals as a ritual...well no I really want to suck your blood), and no romance at the end. I was expecting a kiss not a speech and hand holding. What better way to prove you accept them than to kiss one on live TV broadcast all over the world? That was disappointing. Also were those Lev's parents or grandparents? Sheesh and he was so cold to them. Weird. Anyway 6/10 this had the potential to be way better but didn't quite live up to it.

An interesting ending. It was really romanticized and over-the-top, contrary to the overral style of narration before this episode and not exactly in my taste. I think it works well enough though. The sudden change in narration does perfectly underline the "revolution" theme and its derivatives.

lol Anya rocket skull op, best wingwoman along with Chief.
Lev great speech there. Irina's speech seem shortened, but to da moon you say!?
Very heartwarming if bit idealistic end.
Lots of side characters too vague for any impression. tho Ludmila always snacking & planned this revolution is quite mysterious.
It's educational on space flight & Russian culture, but first half really quite dry like a poorly made doc. And awkward mix of wholesome Lev & Irina, with lots of salty comrades don't help the vibe. Show improved as it focused on the better characters.

Despite space exploration as a topic, they're probably too different to compare meaningfully. I haven't seen Uchuu Kyoudai yet (it's on my PTW list), but I get the impression this was radically different beyond being much shorter in length. It's presented as a very straight-laced and dry by the numbers historical fiction drama (not saying that as a negative - I like content like that and it was reminiscent of a lot of similar live action fare I've enjoyed) crossed with a romance. It was lot more like a lot of 20th century (WWI, interwar era, WWII, Cold War, etc.) autobiographical series in anime form with vampires.

Honestly, found the concept of this show really weird, but honestly, it was a treat. The ending and throughout the last ep made me tear up with so much emotion. A show can be carried by two very strong leads, and it was here, and I'm so happy for them both. A very good show.

The episode is great it managed to wrapped up the anime pretty well, the speech, Irina and Lev being together, the UZSR turning face and moving forward but it's just the way how they did it is all so cringe. heck the whole episode is just cringe, they go on full "and they live happily ever after" on ending this and idk why.

Anyways, Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu is still a good watch. Love Irina and Lev banters so much. Kinda shame that the ending didn't deliver much as I wanted it to but overall a good anime, enjoyed it a lot

Ok so I'm admittedly a big fat sucker for cute anime waifus so I initially rated this show higher than it deserves. After some time to think about it though, I lowered my score to a generous 7/10.

The ending was far too convenient and far too idealistic considering the authoritarian setting and the persistent use of death flags signalling impending doom.

I totally expected Lev to get shot by sniper fire, have it blamed on the "enemy" so he'd become a martyr for the cause and Irina to become the new symbol of the revolution. Especially when she made it out to the square to see Lev give his speech it really seemed like it was gonna happen right before her eyes. That would have been tragic and hearbreaking but the story would have had much more lasting impact if it had. But alas, now all we're left with an okay-ish show with nothing interesting other than a message of "racism is bad, m'kay?"

Oh, and a really cute waifu who doesn't even get a kiss. Damn, not even a kiss! maybe I should lower the score even more.

Oh wow, that speech and big reveal ended way nicer than I expected. Of course I'm not going to complain, I wanted a happy ending for Irina and I'm glad I got it. By the way, sasuga chief-sama, way to have it all planned out and spin this reveal in his and the nation's favor.

Anya the MVP! That headbutt was glorious lmao and then she was clapping while restrained xD. I'm going to miss her.

It was funny to see how among all those vampires they were showing us, there was one with white hair that clearly stood out over the others haha. Those images at the end showed us some new characters that will be important in the future I guess, including said girl.

Irina best girl! I wasn't very familiar with Megumi Hayashibara's work other than Jessie from Pokemon (which sounds completely different) but she made me fall in love with Irina <3. One of my best girl of the season.

Lastly, it was so hard to give us a kiss? It could have been the perfect ending! Oh well, I can't complain, it was still a satisfying ending. Pretty fun show that I must say I liked more than I expected. I'd like to see more and from what we were shown, there's still more so I'm hoping for a second season.

And we get a good ending, sweet.

I really liked how the plot progressed from the half point of this series up, it managed to surprise me but also genuinely care for Irina and Lev.

https://www.space.com/yuri-gagarin-conspiracy-theory

To a certain degree the plot of the LN is following history, I have never heard about that man before tbh, this plot is certaintly an interesting take on it, but I dont think it would have selled as well without Irina in charge~~

We rarely get anime that focus on space, so this was nice, and a gently reminder I should be seen Space Brothers eventually.

As for Tsuki to Laika, I would dig a S2, but there are not that many LN volumes, there is change they adapted too much, and again this was mostly to promote the source material than anything else.

Might give the LN a check one day (it was announced it was going to receive a translation), to check the true ending in more detail, because while sweet, the ending to S1 was far from conclusive and I want to see my ship sail on, and hopefully a bite on the neck for good measure!!

The OST had some really great voiced tracks, definitly need to get those (but the jazz tracks has various instances of being poorly used).

A better ending, more conclusive, picking up from early ep10, better usage of the ost, and more interesting side characters, with some genuine plot twists, would have soared this anime far higher to me.

Turned out to be a lot more enjoyable than I expected from a gimmicky premise of a vampire girl being the first cosmonaut. I also expected more dark stuff/tragedies to happen but in a way glad they kept it more lighthearted and gave Lev and Irina a happy end.
