I agree Rikuo wanted to confess for closure. He was stuck in the past and never grew up because Shinako never liked him back. Idk how you found their behavior realistic, that seems bizarre to me. If you truly relate to Rikuo, you may want to find a father figure to inspire confidence in you.

The old aesthetic is bad. Old movies don't look like this. It was just bland and boring but people thought it was good because it's an old manga. There are so many beautiful anime these days. Even DogaKobo can make beautiful background art. Just check out screencaps of Tada-kun never falls in love or Senko-san.

I think the VA's are very talented actors but they had nothing to work with. They weren't able to put much emotion into their roles. It was phoned in if you ask me. Even HanaKana didn't do much for me.

I don't write my reviews to be objective tbh. I would have to poll everyone's opinions then create a consensus and break out film textbooks. That ain't my style. No worries, I appreciate the comment.
