Heavy psychological episode. I surprised Tanaka's voice is Souma Saitou (one of my favorite VAs). He did a stellar job as usual.
Looks like Tanaka will related to crime side since next episodes. This show is really good in various ways.

I forget, we saw another character with the rare eraser in the first or second episode I remember, but I forget who owned it. Maybe somehow it'll find its way to Tanaka, whether legitimately or ironically?

Yeah Dude, I was also thinking back to who has it, I think I remember seeing it with someone, can that be Goriki, IDK, will have to rewatch the show when only 4 episodes are out lol.

Anyway, this episode had some brilliant monologue and storytelling. I am like mindblown about how good this show is.

I re watched the first ep 1, and yes the eraser was there, and people are also right about the fact that shirakawa had the eraser, but guess what, when odokawa asked about the eraser, she passed it on to odokawa, and said that "you can keep it". That means, the eraser which tanaka sought is also with odokawa.

God, this storyline keeps getting more interesting.

Im impressed at how this show maanaged to grab hold of my attention for a random side character. Great script with a scarily relevent topic of gacha addiction.

To be honest, i felt like the plot around tanaka was very contrived at first.
But after giving it some thought, i kinda like that in this story, the gambling addict enters through events that could only occur with very slim odds. Its oddly poetic.

Ughh The episode itself was masterfully crafted, but I couldn't really watch a guy ruining their own life for 24 minutes straight without feeling extremely uncomfortable...
Plus he had such a cute design, I cry evrytim

No words to describe this insane level of script writing for an anime. Very rare to see various intersting plot threads slowly connect to each other in this type of media. Great work. Hopefully the show keeps this level till the end.

I feel so bad for him, what he gone through in life is so depressing and sad. Also really liked how in depth they went into his story, I did not expect it to be the whole episode but I loved every second of it.

I am leaving a reaction comment based on first 4episodes so that general people get some idea about the show:

It's the combination of light comedy, light slice of life, light psychology and light mystery. The thing I love about this show is that it's not a narrow-visioned mystery. In most mystery shows you'll see everything revolved around a single plot or pretentious plot device. But here everyone will go to restaurants/saloons, will do their job/daily life activities, will do casual conversations, will listen to their favorite programs/idol songs and will ride a taxi. Admist all these they come in contact with each other along with the mystery element giving it a more realistic flavour. Another thing I liked about this show is despite everyone being represented by animal (symbolic or artistic choice whichever it is) there isn't any distinctive discrimination of carnivores and herbivores thus it makes their interactions more natural like humans. The storytelling is amazing. How they mishmash humorous and heavy dialogues in casual conversation is amazing. It's not for everyone though. It's recommended to you only if you're looking for something which is not excitingly generic but refreshing. If it doesn't hook you by 3rd/4th episode then don't bother to continue only to downrate it. It's better to drop it without rating it and accepting the simple fact that this show was never meant for you.

I’m not sure if anyone has pointed it out yet, but a kanji that can be used for the name Dobu (溝) literally means “ditch” in English. Not that it really confirms anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dobu turns out to be ditch-11.

Makes sense as Shirakawa had the eraser, but was too young back then to be the scammer. It fits Dobu well and he likely gave her the eraser.

I just wondered why he would be on top of that game. He really doesnt scream like a rich gangster or hacker. Still Tanaka finding his weapon and taking it, is kinda ironic and a revenge for the money scam Dobu did back then.

it's scary how good this show about animals has some crazy writing to bring a character introduced with a backstory to this level of detail wrapping all of it's social and psychology issues around GACHA and it's addiction on some people to drive home what i assumed is the biggest threat to the show now.

wasn't sold on it at first but once it started connecting it all clicked... i really can only think of one other show in a season of a lot of good shows topping this if it continues like this.

Damn that was a really good episode. Gacha truly changes a man.

Although tbf that last bit with the dodo would never happen in a real gacha. All the pulls are tied to your account on the server the second you spend the currency. He'd still have the dodo whether his phone died or not.

Also samn, poor Tanaka. His family is extra shitty. His dad and his brother are real pieces of shit.

This wasn't too bad of an episode.

Tanaka rolling in his game, reminded me of me rolling for a character in Genshin. However, I do not suffer from the same terrible luck Tanak does. I don't really understood what happened with his Dodo, was it because he didn't save his game?

I loved this episode. I didn't know he was going to go that crazy but I did kinda predict that he might want to kill Odokawa as a joke and I didn't know how right I was lol. Also, Tanaka is now my favorite character along side the Daimon brothers

Also I think that Shirakawa was the one who scammed Tanaka perhaps to pay her student debts?

Well sure, but some do take risks and win cause the have a little bit of luck, but in this case he was just the unluckiest one out there. He should've taken the dodos as bad omen xD

That face he made at the end was the face of someone who truly lost it!
But in all seriousness, that was an amazing episode!!! I think my favorite one yet! It's crazy to think where addiction can lead you. I absolutely loved the inner monologue for this eps. It was like the character we are watching and the dialogue in his head were two different people. Even though we all saw it coming, the way they drew out that ending to show the whole backstory and worth of having that Dodo was to him was OUTSTANDING! I was pulled into his story so much to the point when he lost that Dodo, I felt a piece of my heart chip away! GOSH! What an amazing\heart breaking episode! 10\10

I knew the random gacha game from the music video of the OP would come in play at some point !!!

At 2:24 you can see the exact same screen with the Dodo as the phone breaks.

I wonder what kind of other little things like this there are in the video...

I loved this episode. It showed how alot of people think mentally. The dopamine thing was spot on. You get that few seconds of happiness whether its a game or sex and then it’s gone. Atp you are just left wanting more.

I feel bad for Tanaka. But he needs to snap out of it and realize he is trying to take someones life because he lost a dodo bird on a game. I hope he can get help.

This episode is just so amazing. It really surprised me that a character which I thought was inconsequential is unexpectly extended to such a backstory and is connected to the main story by such an ingenious. It's just like a frustrated man telling his real story to you. Can't wait for the next plot.

Tanaka had a really tough life. After watching this you can see that the old generation parents has a point when they're really strict with their children on using phones and computers.

Also his parents seemed to be discriminating between the older and the younger son. They were super spoiling the older one while not caring much about the younger one. Just that must have had a psychologically negative effect on Tanaka. Tanaka is an introvert but he still wished to join in with those classmates and it looked like he wanted to be friends with them. This shitty past caused his over obsession for games.

These online auctions aren't trustworthy. You can't tell when the seller themselves are bidding on their own (nonexistent) product using a fake account to get more money.

I always feel like these shows are so deep that my dumb American brain who’s used to being spoon fed just can’t understand what is really going on. I felt bad for this character, but I wasn’t really sure why he did what he did. Is the story trying to tell me that he fell into seeking validation through eraser collecting and gacha games because it was clear that his home life was not providing him with that validation? What was the diatribe about wage inequity supposed to mean?? He keeps talking about the revenge he wants to get, who is his enemy? I’m just so lost.

This episode was so real. Kind of felt bad for that guy, especially with his bird. A bad day became even worse. No wonder he eventually snapped. Gacha hell is a real thing, but no way would his pull not be saved after recovering his phone. In any case, it did a good job of setting things into motion. I was wondering if this was simply going to be a one-off episode at first, but then it all came together. Such a great anime.

At first, I was a bit confused as I thought that the show kinda veered off course with introducing this new character and having the whole focus of the ep being on him. However, as it went on, I slowly started to appreciate the character building and then the eventual revelation of how he plays a part in the larger story was good.

This episode really hits hard. Imagine investing your time and money for four years in gacha, and when you finally got it, then it goes poof.

Tanaka is just unlucky, but I think its more on being irresponsible. After losing his dodo, then his pet bird died, and then dug some gun. Him digging the gun is like telling him to end his life already.

This anime is really good. Good thing I gave it a chance.
