That fight was amazing
I Think the show is developing a duality between Rikka and Akane:The opening, the ending, the direction all point out to some kind of connection or Maybe 2 faces of the same medal
I kind of agree that this episode was kind of rushed, i'd have loved more time to the characters because, as i am Now, i don't care at all about Hibiki, but we have time
The mistery is still intriguing and we have a lot of questions that we hope we'll be answered
Nice

The villain girl deserves a far better show to be in, her scenes are so calm and personal. They don't fit with the rest of the content, since they don't suck enough.

I see a lot of people enjoying the fights, which I just don't get. The characters are mostly such cardboard boxes, I can't help but treat the action scenes as white noise, space where some character development could've been put in.
It's just a random fight, involving people I can't care about.
And I have seen better CG fight scenes.

The shitty after effects debris layer would fit better in a fucking meme gif.

Oh, and the new character designs are atrocious.

You know what sucks the most in this show? Akane just needs some love and cuddles and she won't be a psychopath.

but apart from that, can't she just put two and two together that Yuta's group has to do with gridman?

I still really can't get into this, but I'm going to keep trying with it.
Akane is such a bitch though, I'm not going to like her even if she somehow tries to redeem herself.
But Rikka is very thicc and I love her.

Utsumi ruined it in a big way when he tells Yuuta that the kaijus can be human.
Akane has a new ally, Anti a boy who is able to transform into Kauji, Akane gives him the order to attack without stopping until Gridman appears.
The way Calibur takes Yuuta, Utsumi and Rikka was very funny.
In the fight Yuuta listens to Anti voice and this one resists to fight against him because he thinks Anti is a human, this finishes in the defeat of Gridman.
Rikka and Utsumi were quite affected by the result of the fight, as for Akane, her joy for defeating Gridman seemed to me adorable.
Poor Rikka, she was worried about Yuuta, she spends the night in front of the computer, the stress to know if Yuuta is alive or does not have Rikka and Utsumi very tense, but it is here where the partners of Calibur appear, Twintails loli Borr, gave me a lot laugh, it's like a little mafia girl. Rikka is quite smart and calls Yuuta on his cell phone and he answers, which proves that Yuuta and Calibur are alive.
Round 2 vs. Anti was great, the new form of Gridman when combined with Max is quite rough and burly, although it is very agile and fast, the fistfight was very good, gave a nostalgic touch. When Gridman introduced the new allies as "students of the Neon Genesis Junior High" I thought for a moment and then I laughed a lot, I think I thought the same as Utsumi, "are they from Junior High?".
The final scene with Anti in front of Akane's house left me with mixed feelings, she should not retaliate this way with the kaiju boy, I know that Akane is a psychopath and crazy, but even so I hate her when she threw the food in his face.
I hope this is not the last time we see Anti, since I assume that the Kaiju boy seek revenge against Gridman (or Akane?)

The design of Anti in its human form gives the feeling of someone very angry even gives the sensation of seeing a child angry with his mother and his version Kaiju is very cool, his long-range attacks are incredible and at close range is quite fast and lethal.

I thought it was just going to be nostalgic but I'm loving this show so far. Of course there is the nostalgia, but also a lot different. Loved seeing the new Max Gridman combination this episode.

I'm surprised that Akane is the mastermind in this series, at least as of this episode. She doesn't seem like she's being semi-controlled the way Takeshi was in the original. Last episode I thought she channeled Malcolm's pettiness in her motivation, but in this one she was pretty focused on wanting to defeat Gridman without considering anything frivolous. I'm interested to see where it goes.

Definitely went into a masive moodshift pretty fast in this episode.

Akane being the sociopath we all love (for some reason ...).

I'll say this show as so far turned my expectations since the 1st episode.

Fights scenes were really fun, kinda incredible that Trigger made the CGI bearable and actually match with their 2D hand-drawn wacky style.

Today's episode is actually pretty good, great action and more characters introduced, it really feels like it has potential to be amazing (even though they copied from one of their show Ultraman)

And it saddens me that I still find the MC to be useless, idiotic and boring AF. To me it doesn't matter whatever happened to him, cos I'm more interested with Akane, she is more fun. So I really wonder WTF is the MC even here for ??

This really continues to just be a fun, charming, show and here we got Trigger showing that you can make CG not look clunky or awful like it seems to be in so many shows nowadays. Nice to have this after bailing on Franxx. This and Zombieland Saga are definitely topping the season for me so far, though with both shows, I'd really actually like them to start asking some questions about what is going on at this point.

HYPE DESU HYPE DESU HYPE DESU

Akane is adorable. Rikka's a much more likeable character than the first episode impressed upon me. I adore the dynamic and chemistry between the characters. Fucking Greg Ayres bro is Greg Ayres bro.

But more importantly, GRIDMAN. The last couple scenes had me grinning ear-to-ear; I felt like a child again! The way this show is handled reminds me a lot of various childhood shows... it's a real treat. The transformers shit and the humanized weapon selection and the DBZ cinematography... the characters are even delightfully throwback, a few steps away from the grandiose, over-the-top, idiosyncratically "anime bullshit" way characters are constructed over recent years. Not that they feel "realistic" per se, just a little more relaxed and loosey-goosey and...

Ahhhh, I'm having a good time with this.

After finally finishing episode 3 well... it wasn't bad. Definitely better than the last 2 episodes as it got progressively better. But regardless I still have some quite amount of issues with this. Particularly Akane as a character, in context it just feels like she was shoved there just because of reasons... and her as a character while being interesting, sometimes it just makes me feel questioned about her writing as a character so far.

This episode was far more trigger-ish than the previous episodes but I still feel quite underwhelmed. It's not bad on its own when it comes to the fact of this not even feeling like a Trigger show, but regardless I'm not fond with the action sequences a lot. But they got better certainly. The Obari references are nice of a touch.

6/10 for the show so far as the third episode goes.

I'm glad I decided to watch this show just because of Rikka's ass, it's so good! I love all the weapon characters, especially Calibur and Borr. The fighting scene was so great too, when Gridman lifted Anti and dumped it on the ground, along with the OP music, it was so exciting! Also, I think that the fact that there's little to no music during the episodes and then they put it on the fights, it makes it all the more exciting too.

They reused some seconds of animation when they fought for the second time, when Anti was doing his "I'm super fast" thing, the same building collapsed, buuut I guess that makes sense, I mean, they're fighting at the same place and Anti did the same action, so I guess the same thing is going to happen. Also, what's with the eyes of characters in this show, they're all so pretty! And my hate for Akane is growing, especially after that ending.

And I just now noticed Rikka's mom is voiced by Shintani Mayumi, who did Nonon and Haruko. <3 And I didn't even recognize Aoi Yuuki as Borr, wouldn't know if others hadn't said it here.

Really liking this anime, and I don't even get the references because I've never watched Ultraman and the like, it must be even better for the fans of tokusatsu/kaiju shows!

The show is definitely not up my alley. And this is okay because I am not the target audience. Nonetheless I can absolutely see its qualities. I have yet to be amazed by it, but it is a nice watch. A pleasant, enjoyable watch.

The show screams Japan and I am glad for it. Hopefully Trigger gonna get big income from this. Would help the studio in the future. I am looking forward to it.

The average rating is really weird but it is not the first time something got the MAL-hammer treatment. Recently the ratings for popular shows are collage of hype and hate.

Since it's apparently a part of some older franchise, I need to ask: is the writing so fucking terrible deliberately and it's supposed to hint/reference something or is this show just that bad? Fights are pretty entertaining for how utterly simple and basic they are but characters and lines are so awful it's hard to watch.

Trigger has clearly shown it's nothing like Gainax and it can make painfully bad shows with absolutely no saving graces. Is this just another Franxx or am I missing a joke?

Utsumi was a little annoying during this episode. He was also rude towards Rikka for no reason... so I don't know what it's his deal.

The way Calibur broke into the school and kidnapped Yuta and co. was funnier than I expected xD

The fight scenes were really good and the OST was nice as well although it disappointed me a bit that they just re-used some of the animations during round two. Aside from that, I liked this episode.

P.S. 1: "Neon Genesis" Junior High? Nice Trigger, nice.

I really wonder where this story takes place in, when we're talking about the original Grindman series. Would this be a sequel, an alternative timeline/setting, or where would it fit?

As a whole lot is already established around Gridman I think this would be quite a bit in the future either after the original series ended or something.

Quite liked this episode and the development, it was also mostly just pure tokusatsu intense fighting so I really liked that!

Looking forwards to see what's next.

I hope the series doesn't go for the relationship between Yuta and Rikka; Yuta has like no personality, he's just a blank slate for the audience to project on so it will feel jarring if Rikka falls for him.

It feels really incongruent to what the first two episodes presented us with. It feels like the writing staff got impatient or something

Normal life - kaiju comes - epic fight - kaiju dead - normal life, no questions asked.

Tough I'm watching the show late I agree with you.

The show is very slowly paced, lacks musics and explanations about the universe, leading to me not caring much during action scenes... It tries to build "intriguing" scenes with long empty spaces between each character talk but since we don't know them and their world it just feels empty, wasted time in scenes.
Sure the animation is great (though I found the first Kaiju very ugly and not very epic), but I expected more background storytelling and a faster pace from Trigger.

Rikka has near to no reaction to her long term friends dying, but did not sleep a night for Yuuta disappearing some hours.
A new team of characters appears but no explanation about them, their names and whatever.
Utsumi angry bullshiting on Rikka for no reason.
Aparts from Akane "evil laugh"..., the Kaiju related characters don't manifest any real motivation for their doings
If every person dying from a Kaiju dies for real, are their not worried of killing a lot of people by walking and fighting in streets with fucking giant Mechas ?

Not as good as other Trigger shows for me as of now.

I think it was too early for a defeat episode, this only added way too many things to focus, a single episode shouldn't try to expand on so much stuff all at once.
It isn't a full-fledged mecha if there were no transformation combos. We shall see more of that.
There is probably going to be a relationship between Yuta and Rikka, and I'm a supported.

Akane and Anti's designs seem straight up homages to the Transformers Shattered Glass universe, specifically SG Optimus Prime for Akane (her color scheme, headphones and goggles) and SG Hot Rod/Rodimus for Anti (color scheme and flames). I understand the guys at Trigger are huge TF fans. A TF show done by them would be a dream come true.

I find this show to be a total chore to sit through though. The pacing is atrociously off. If the next episode doesn't floor me I might give up.
