-This is a really good looking anime imo. Annerose is pretty nicely drawn. The setting gave me flashbacks of Rose of Versailles...

-Hmm, so the federal republic turned elected a president into god-emperor of mankind. No, that doesn't sound like anyone I can think of...

-I swear, I keep hearing the same German names in anime; Reinhard, Jigfried, Kircheis; Rudolf is maybe less common

-Reinhard seems like a Char Aznable

Dammit, the story with Reinhard's sister always makes me cry!

I have to say the remake is shaping up nicely. I wish the editing was a bit better though. The stuff from ep. 3 should come before the stuff from ep. 1 and 2 - especially ep. 1 might feel confusing to some people.

It would work even better if they made several movies, giving them more length for certain chapters. Like Unicorn Gundam, where the longer OVAs felt like a better experience compared to the TV edit.

It was a pretty good episode.

I'm probably over thinking it but Annerose looked really cold and calculating during the one on one talk with Seig. ↓↓↓

Notice the squint? Perhaps her time with the Kaiser has taught her a few things and her being a nice girl is all an act. Also my crack pot theory, Reinhard wants to become the Emperor and marry his sister...but I don't think this series will venture into Game of Thrones territory.

Reinhardt's introduction was very transfer-studentish xD
Oberstein seems nicer (tactical flattery) than in the previous adaptation and more "hiddenly depressed"
I hope this series and movies sells well so they can adapt all ten books :c

I feel like this is going to be nine twelve-episode seasons of episode-per-episode remakes of the original OVA, and I don't think I like it. You're probably better of watching the old version. I hope things get better, but I really doubt they will...

In the original OVA this scene was much more tragic, his father was absolutely destroyed, they were already running into financial issues and then the Kaiser simply decided he would take away Annerose because she was cute, the money he got from the "deal" was like poison, he spent all of it on alcohol and eventually died.

I'm also sad they skipped the bed room scene, it made this entire situation much, much more serious.

Careful with BBCode grammar rules there. In order for a spoiler toggle to appear, an end to it must be clearly marked, as shown above. In the original post, you used "[/quote]" instead of "[/spoiler]".

"A walking enigma" - Kircheis about Oberstein.
I couldn't have said it better myself. He's doesn't feel like human at all too; more like a cyborg or something.
Man, Junichi Suwabe was such a surprise with that voice acting.

Charmed by Annerose's beauty and gentleness, btw. She deserves the universe.

The final scene brings some hype. *rubs hands* Ready for adventure...and danger.

Honestly, the pacing and all is quite good so far in my opinion...which scares me, since they are only making the equivalent of 2 seasons. I really wonder how this is going to play out, maybe choosing a point the middle of the story to stop, or going for an original ending?

I think it's amazing this show is getting remade, as it will probably push some of the people who dreaded the 108 episode count over the edge and get them watching. My biggest issue is that the show loses a lot of subtlety compared to the original. Just like you said, a lot of emotional impact is missing in certain scenes.
The other problem I have with it -albeit on a way lesser scale- is that modern visuals aren't equivalent to bettervisuals. The 3D animation seems off, but that's personal preference I guess. But visuals have never been the selling point of this show anyways, so whatever..
I probably just had higher expectations, but I'm still going to see how this evolves.

They didn't actually compress anything just yet. The old adaptation is the one that rearranged many scenes and further expanded things (events and character roles) from the books. Whether this is better with the "filler" content or not is up to you to decide though (tbh I loved pretty much all of it in both OVAs and books, and this adaptation is being quite faithful to the latter).

Wow! What a change of context compared to the old LOGH. Interesting episode, on this there is no doubt, and shrewd on the fact of having maintained that parallelism with the previous anime series, in the idea of showing the similarity between the empire and the alliance regarding the way to administer political power. Interesting is the initial part in which the past is described, but so far the Iserlohn fortress has not always been mentioned, without ever showing it, something that has immediately happened in the old anime series. I am happy that the character of Paul von Oberstein was immediately presented, even if it is a little different from the original, but not about the face, although I was interested in the strangeness of his eyes.

Good episode, but...

Having finished Violet Evergarden recently, this episode looked unbelievably bland to me (in terms of colour palette, storyboarding, lighting, character designs, etc.). LOGH has such a strong narrative, just imagine if it also had a strong visual director (and a big ass budget) behind it. Ok, asking for the entirety of LOGH to be adapted with KyoAni production values does not sound particularly feasible, but one can always dream...

I give you reason, a similar series, deserved a quality in the drawings and a variety of colors much more detailed in the first case and much wider in the shades in the second.

I feel like new Oberstein's depiction is more accurate to the book... he's supposed to be kind of big and the old anime made him very scrawny (I still like that portrayal though). Overall, I like the pacing of the anime so far. I just feel like Reinhard and Kircheis's relationship isn't as strong in this adaptation. It feels more business-like/ professional lmao.

Could care less about starting infodump Universal Century & IC.
But the backstory was really nice, made me care about those three. Annerose is beautiful & their goal is all about the sister, aren't you proud Nunnally?
Reinhard sounds like he got a grand Lelouch plan, but it's possible Sieg/Siegfried becomes the mc by accident like a certain homunculus.
I like how the new CodeGeass with Star Wars sfx presents their childhood friendship from naked totally-not-gay shotas because one's a siscon.

As for Reinhard appearing to be a villain to some users here:
This will get more clearly later in the story. He has just different views/approaches than Yang.
He is ambitious. (Yang just doesn't care about anything.) But they both aren't villains.

Reinhard just hates the nobility and the emperor for taking away his sister. And people getting promoted just because they are nobility. Stuff like that.

As for Yang and the magician: I just read chapter 4 of the novel, volume 1 (English translation):

I love how some men are still complaining about the art. Lmao. Y'all insecure. I don't watch moe blobs and complain that they're moe. It's a stylistic choice. It's not as if Yang and Reinhard are stripping or showing off their abs.

Annerose's character is actually a lot better in this than the old series. They really capture the beauty of her character. Her voce actor is wonderful and it really shows how loving she is toward Reinhard and Kircheis. Loved this episode! This series will be great as long as they are able to make the plot come out properly.

I like the pacing of the prologue (UC history) and the Reinhard Annerose flashback. The original was more tragic indeed but over the course of 100 episodes it seemd to drone on and on with scenes literally shown again to "refresh your memory". I think they're going to avoid that in this remake.

equality vs hierarchy
and some republicans become so oppressed by that hierarchy of an oligarchy and they became the Free Planets Alliance

Reinhard hates the nobles eh and wants to take back her sisters freedom but then im sure he will lose his way later on and become the noble that he hates so much (you become what you hate kind of stuff) and then Keiches and Annerose will save him in the end i guess
