Okay this was incredibly bad for a start. First off, this is one of my mayor issues with anime and this is something that fucking pisses me off: Slow pacing + Nothing that will interest me. I don't mind slow paced shows, but when it comes to slow pacing, you might need to add something in terms of substance in order to keep the viewer's attention, if you don't then you lose pretty much a lot of viewership. Not only that, but taking my dislike for Mushishi aside (because I do dislike it for the exact same reason, and that's ALREADY a bad thing) this series doesn't work for the director at all. Clearly this is something that needs more of a dynamic in the execution, which this series lacks A LOT. Second, while the artstyle is unique, yeah I will give props to this at all, the animation or how it pretty much looks is pretty much average at best. It feels choppy and it also feels rather inconsistent, if I want to go and see choppy animation at least make it somewhat entertaining, but this feels like very poor production quality wise. Given that it's also a problem when the story's execution isn't that great either, I do understand that they want to mainly do it as an introduction, but even that makes it feel like there's no real grip to it. It feels either souless, or it feels off. This is probably the worst possible way to start a series for me, because as a person that likes to watch shows, not only did it had a lot of issues in convincing me to continue, but it had something that I fucking despised in the medium. If there's nothing that interests me, then you can't expect me to continue. Of course since I don't wanna sound like a contradicting individual I'll give it few more chances before taking a final decision, but this was very bad for an introduction, and wasn't this supposed to be the final series that was left for this season? Because I'm sure hell not that impressed with this final entry for my end. |

Animation felt very comic-like and choppy. Instead of bothering me, it felt like it worked, imo. So "the Reflection" is a phenomenon that happened a few years in the past and created "side effects" on some people. Three characters introduced: red-head girl, I-Guy, and X-On. I wonder how they will all interact. "You'll continue to protect New York, right?" "Sorry, I actually live in L.A" xD lol I liked it, so I'll be watching future episodes. I want to see how it will turn out :) |

I know to you guys its just simple as "just leave dont watch it" but when you have been watching anime for years upon years almost more than a decade, you cant just let everything go. moodie said: Ya this isnt for me. Umakoshi Yoshihiko designs are totally wasted. And because he is the character designer he now has to regulate the animation direction of this series, which takes time off from his other anime. Splitting his workload into two projects. Its obv that Stan Lee has more weight which is a shame that he will probably be focusing his attention here rather than other projects. Then you have the director Nagahama Hiroshi who is insanly ambitious. I would kill for another project by him and to find out he has to work on this just breaks my heart. So there, thats my reasoning behind my disdain. Knowing Stan Lee this will end up devaluing all the great staff members talents for the sake of a crappy comicbook hero type anime. |

So there, thats my reasoning behind my disdain. Knowing Stan Lee this will end up devaluing all the great staff members talents for the sake of a crappy comicbook hero type anime. I mean there's a difference between a typically average harem and a pretty enjoyable comedy, to a pretty lackluster hero/action show that has atrocious pacing, I think Moodie hates it because this pretty much feels souless as hell, not only souless but it doesn't feel like its made with actual passion either. This is probably what he meant when he sees this as an insult because this devalues in a way that the staff has to dumb down everything for the sake of it fitting with the actual work and it doesn't work either because from the inconsistent animation, towards the atrocious pacing. It isn't an insult to the anime industry, at least in my opinion. But this is probably the worst premiere of the season, and even stuff like Isekai Smartphone which is something people are trashing on about has more of a personal interest to me because at least I can enjoy that. |

Seems people have quite the split opinion about this one. Reflection was one of those anime I was somewhat interested to see. It's too early to judge the plot/writing of this show just from the first episode, but my main issue were the visuals. They felt very inconsistent and lacked quality, close up shots were somewhat alright but anything past that was fairly poor quality, the animation was choppy, the action scenes had no impact (almost felt like wet paint slapping together), the lack of texturing made it feel bland and the color scheme seems unnatural. Besides that, the first episode did not seem to offer anything exciting enough to overlook the main issue I have with it. |

Yeah, no. Some of ya'll are off base. I'm no expert but there a a few things even I know about animation. Let's clear up a few things. The *artstyle* is fine. The Character designs are fine. The premise is fine. What went wrong? The Audio mixing is incredibly bad. The sound effects are okay but the dialogue is hard to hear and unbalanced throughout the episode. The animation *is* horrible. I mean, compare this to Heroman. At least the animation was up to snuff in Stan Lee's last big anime project (Well, first episode at least, that's all I saw). This animation is stilted and jarring. It should have lended itself to the artstyle pretty easily but the action scenes are really affected. There is a clear lack of detail in the background. When crowds are fully "in focus" it looks cool. All the up close shots with one or two characters detailed look fine but lack of detail in wide shots and the low frames really kill it. The pacing wouldn't have been a problem if they chose to up the frames in animation.... but having a slower first episode coupled with the lack of quality *stylized* backgrounds it really killed my intrigue. Plus that audio design. I mean what was going on at Studio Deen? Please shut the hell up about America/Hollywood (I doubt "Hollywood" had a hand in animating this lol) ruining anime. Castlevania, Boondocks, Avatar TLA, all shows with heavy anime aesthetics... and none of which are bogged down by this shows problems. |

i started this with little to no information on this anime, and i kid you not but within the first 30 seconds, when all they had was the ongrange and black lines from the floating lanterns i said "why does this remind me of Hero-man?" then i seen the faces and the design the show was going for "oh its like those animes that's suppose to resemble American cartoon style. maybe thats why i thought of Hero-man." it was confirmed with the american flags literally everywhere five mniutes after i said that. then finally it all made sense when stan lee narrated the ending card. i see everyone complaining about the action scenes, and i too have to agree. i particularly didnt like when Xfaceman activated his hulk arm to punch the guy. it felt so anticlimatic. |

Really like the different & stylistic approach to the art style, but the animation quality is absolutely atrocious. It even affected the directing. Very disappointed. Meh, was expecting something decent for some reason, was really annoyed by how bad it was. Based on episode 1 i'd give it 3/10 which i feel is generous. ... Actually, fuck it, it was really bad, so i'll give it a 2/10 and drop it, if the score goes up for some reason after a couple episodes i might try watching it again, but i currently have absolutely no intention of watching episode 2 sadly. Most disappointing anime of the season... |

wow they really enjoyed playing just 5 seconds of that one "sky show" song over and over. that totally wasn't annoying at all! <-- sarcasm :DDDDDD you'd think that they'd be able to animate this show a bit more fluidly because of how simple the art style is, but i guess it is fucking DEEN we're talking about, after all. this was one of the most painfully slow episodes of anything i've ever seen. there were multiple times where it would just sit on a single frame for what felt like 30 seconds or extended sequences where it would change frames once every 2 seconds. the couple of times there was actually more than one frame per second, it was legitimately difficult to tell what was going on because of how choppy it was combined with the complete lack of detail in the art. i don't even hate the art style outright, but it doesn't really work here... i feel like i just watched 3 minutes of animation and storytelling stretched to 25 minutes. why? WHY DEEN? Holy shit ... that was really bullshit. I don't care about animation. But the art/style was crap. Faces and stuff. Not enough details. Felt like someone colored a few rough sketches from a manga and used that. I managed to watch about 6 minutes. Then I skipped through the remaining stuff and it didn't seem to get better. So I dropped it. The fight at the beginning without talking seemed boring. (No info.) This felt like an american boring generic superhero crap. Then I looked at MAL. Saw somethign about a "Stan Lee" - thought ... "that sounds like similar to Jackie Chan - is some Kung Fu guy involved here?" ... then I googled and saw it was a guy involved in superhero crap. No wonder the anime is crap when they try to be like superhero stuff from the US - that only really young people can enjoy. It's been a long time since I have been that young. Not adding it to my list since I haven't watched more then half of the 1st episode and it would be 0/x episodes watched. Score I guess would be 1-3 somewhere in that region. |

Without a doubt, it is a brave direction to take, and will not suit many people, myself included. The animation reminded me of a cross between an Animatic and the flash animation I saw 20+ years ago. The premise sounds interesting, I'll give it that. And as for a protagonist painting media screens with comic book effects during combat seemed quite ludicrous. Some will persevere, but for me, it ended at the pilot episode. |

Yes animation is a bigger deal in japan. But its production value is no longer that big a difference anymore. The one major divergence is still location of origin and with shows like Space Dandy that is also slowly disappearing. The western world may not appreciate animation as much yet. But It is getting there. And what we have is pretty on par with your avarige anime. Def agree. See, this is what I meant when I said I would much rather refer to Western animation for superhero series (but of course everyone was quick to jump me for 'divining' western and japanese animation). I think that the art style is indeed pretty simple but that's kind of the point here given the theme and especially considering who the creator is......Back in the day, we never had the amazing art styles in comics that we have today and the ones in this show screams and really pays homage to how comics looked in the 60's, 70's and 80's etc It's hella different from anything that we've seen and imo that's very refreshing for once......And that whole "Ruin Hollywood not anime" thing is the most weebish thing I've seen in a while @Moodie lol you need to chill As for the story, it's pretty typical within the superhero genre except it's only recently where the breakout of heroes and villains have begun, so it'll be interesting to see how this is all handled - It feels a lot like Marvel too which is cool The characters are okay so far but I'm REALLY interested in X-On.....That guy has a broken ass ability lol. Seems like he'll have a nice dynamic with the photographer girl too so hopefully that whole thing ends up being a fun ride to see develop Decent start overall and I LOVE the ED (Pretty cool how they used actual people for it) |

My review for THE REFLECTION: In the first episode, you can basically guarantee that it's going to be all around bad. Style aside, the animation budget seems to have been used up on the toaster processor, as we get WAY too many still frames, action with no impact and weirdly rotoscoped facial expressions. Not even counting the god awful color pallete. I spent the first 10 minutes expecting it all to be a joke and for the real show to begin, but it was indeed just a cheesy copy of "comics" and "animes" even if it can't be considered as either...The Reflection serves as a perfect example of bad directing--with studerring dialogue, a weird disconnect between Japanese and "Americanized" combined with sub-par VO and amateur sound mixing lead to some of the most awkward scenes I've seen animated. As far as story, there is clearly not enough there for something worthwhile, Stan Lee (or whoever was behind this) seems to think that he'll be fine with a cliche plot, but considering the design are horrible and the writing is laughable (with the worst exposition ever made)...it's easy to say that there is no redeeming this mess. I'm seriously mind-blown and curious as to how this was even made...it might be set on the anime community as one of the biggest flops ever. |

Yeah I'm not gonna progress any further than the first episode tbh. When you use the exact same song more than once. or even twice, MINUTES apart from each other, you know that's a bad sign off the bat. Animation was too weird for me, didn't flow right. The ending theme is cool but it doesn't fit??? This is super heroes, not idol trash. Boring..boring..and boring. Slow paced and not enough dialog. I was so damn hyped when I watched the PV cause the PV actually made this look cool? Idk what happened..and because it was Stan Lee. But not my cup of tea. This is just bad, so I'm dropping it. |
