I love how passionate Majime is about words in general.

That last scene. Last time I saw someone fall in love like that was probably when I saw Takamoto-kun see Hagu-chan for the first time in Hachimitsu to Clover.

i know some of y'all like to throw around the term "autistic" like it's an insult but the protagonist comes off to me as for-real autistic and it adds to his charm.

the score got unnecessarily intense during that dinner scene, bgm shouldn't be so distracting! and i'm not really looking forward to the romance aspect of this show but i am at least curious about the mystery woman...

OKAY BUT I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO'S GETTING RAGUKO VIBES, RIGHT?? I mean they both have a strong Josei vibe and mature themes. It's so uncanny that the best of winter was an extremely underrated Josei anime and this season might be the same!

Fall of 2016 is pretty poor when it comes to original non-sequel anime. But this is breath of fresh air!

They are actually created by the same Guy.
Liking traps is gay and liking Lolis is Pedophila.

It's so calming that feels like a lullaby and this anime has more of a movie-vibe than a tv show vibe.

keep hearing Izaya making a hitlist instead of word list...
think this drew me in more than ep1. Great OP dubstep too. Like the mc, very calm tone.
Besides stones, there's a new sign of animu autists! Elevators!

To be honest I'm really not a fan of the current pacing and environment... I really do hope to see something more than this in the further episodes!

Of course it wouldn't be made into a film if it didn't have a romance

It's a shame the soundtrack is so ostentatious. I suppose they're trying to enliven the 'dull' topic, but please read the mood. Not everything has to be a magically uplifting effort - less is more.

wow i loved it already because of the passion this anime has for words, but now that ending was unexpected and beautiful, that's the way you should introduce a romantic storyline imho

That episode was awesome. Made me want to watch it even MORE.

I never really thought about what went into making a dictionary, I thought it was just collecting words, defining them, and putting them all in a book. I never thought that there was a whole philosophy and methodology to it. And wow, 230,000 words out of 900,000. That's crazy.

Majime is sort of a weirdo... in a good way. He's weirdly interesting, especially watching people crowd the escalators. Definitely he's fit for the job, because he pays attention to detail and thinks differently from other people.

The final ending scene was AWESOME. The animation, the soundtrack, and just the whole captivating feeling of the entire thing. Enters the heroine. She looks beautiful and I can't wait to see the romance develop too! Just hope it doesn't detract but adds and/or complements the dictionary making. Just beautiful that scene.

I still feel that OP song doesn't really fit the tone of the anime, but I like the song itself. But the ED really is great, although it's definitely romantic in nature. I really like the ED song.

Can't wait to watch again!

Considering the systematic flow of people up and down escalators as beautiful is something I personally find concerning. I suppose there's intrigue in watching people moving like clockwork in an urban setting, but it can also imply the comparison of human society and machinery. It's something I recognize out of early 20th century technologically-based artistic and social movements, so I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea.

Controlling word definitions is an important task, as posited by the anime, but the systematic control of language can also be dangerous in manipulating and controlling communication. I'm curious to see if the anime tries to use purple prose and emotions to recolor the way words are defined, or if it tries to seriously address issues of needing a varied and ever-evolving vocabulary to describe an ever-evolving and complex world.

this anime is beautiful, captivating to say the least, i love the little definitions they include of the episode’s title at the end

the characters are all very interesting, and nishioka’s mannerisms & gestures are literally showing off the animation, the animation is so fluid!

but i’ll probably remember over and over again

I dont know how to let people know this, but having studied abroad in Japan, I have never seen an anime that captures tokyo as well as this one. From the side streets you walk every day to get to the train to the crack-of-doawn mornings where the sun shines over teh apartment buildings outside your windown. Truly felt like I was back for the first time.

A mysterious woman appeared. I guess that this will have romance too? If that's the case I'm really excited.
