ColdBeans said: Wow Canaan is really cold-blooded. Didn't even flinch when she killed the boy. But I wonder, why'd the boy want to die?
I was also wondering about that too. Didn't seem like the thing to do if he was trying to get revenge for her killing his brother. Hopefully that gets answered later.
I also don't know why Maria found it so shocking that Canaan would kill someone, especially after she already knows about her past and that the fact that her apartment was littered with guns must have just slipped by her.
Love the X-Men!
you could say what he did was a form of revenge against canaan by making maria witness for herself canaans other nature that she hasnt seen before, thus canaan being able to sense the rejection.
Blah episode. Lots of exposition covering crazy sci-fi stuff exaggerating real medical conditions, and the cat girl was pretty useless to me. I guess this episode exposed that there isn't much to the show besides visuals and fanservice, but hopefully they develop a compelling story light on fake science.
Good ep, still kickass as with the rest of this.
And for whoever thought of Shiki's eyes, they're like that, but so much more....But that is what I thought when I noticed them, yea. A page from the Nasuverse? Aoko does mention more types of mystic eyes.
Also, anyone know what show that was advertised at the end, but before the one with the deer and the antenna? Looked...interesting?

Wrong person to blame, dear noteDhero, if you want to blame somebody, please direct your burning anger toward the MOE reporter girl who took 1/2 of the ep & fill us with her annoying trying-to-be-cute act (-_-)
Well, that is true, but since we have some history and connection with her (with that Utu or whatever virus), plus the fact that she got a big ol' reality pie in the face at the end of the episode...I excused it. What is cat girl there for? Then again, she could turn around and be some important spy in the next episode since I didn't think anything of the old man in the first episode who later chased Canaan around for a whole sequence in the second, and had a brother come out for revenge in this episode...

dude get over it, ep 4 is out.
I mean yah, I agree with the last half, but the cat girl was epic fail..

Cat girl? You dont know her purpose? Its what the Japanese call F-A-N-S-E-R-V-I-C-E, my friend ;) Hope that helps & LOL at "reality pie"
Another series which managed to make killing, chasing and other stuff like that boring as hell. Well at least is slightly less boring than Tokyo Magnitude.
I don't get what the cat girls were all about but it seems a more character-driven story line would be interesting, even if it means less action. I don't care much about Maria at this point, and she's not that annoying to me (yet). I'm more interested in what Alphard and Liang Qi are up to. I liked how Liang Qi barely had any screen time in this episode but still managed to bring out her sadistic side. :D I can't wait to see her snap and go all psycho on someone.

You are so damn right !!! As long as GODDESS Liang Qi is present, I dont care how bleh the ep is and still give it 5/5. Gahhhh, dunno what makes me attracted to her so bad...
I loved it, I feel like I'm getting the right amount of action, story telling and not so much fanservice but enough to make me smile and not get annoyed. I really am enjoying it.

the hijacking felt quite lame
Maria is annoying when she say "Canaan" all the time
She want surprise BUTTSECKS from Canaan....What can she do when she was in a yuri love ?
But seriously, beside the 2 main girls: Canaan and Alphard, as for good characters we only have GODDESS Liang Qi who got limited screentime simply because she wasnt MOE, the tall dude in the OP who doesnt appear yet and BADASS Santana who got less screen time than that piece of SHAT named Mino, Mito or whatever shitty name he has ....Damn it !!!
It was the perfect revenge for someone whose brother she had put down so easily. He knew he couldn't go after her directly or he would end up the same way, so he spied on her and found out she had a weak spot, her one and only friend. So then of course he kidnapped her and waited for canaan to pick up the scent.
I was a little surprised he didn't just kill her right away as that would have been the certain route, but what he did, while chancy (and likely not going to work in the long run) is even more evil. By telling her that he wouldn't hurt her and making canaan think he was going to, he forced canaan to become a monster in her friend's eyes which is what canaan saw at the end, her friend being even more scared of her than the boy who had just taped a bomb on her head.
I doubt the separation will last long though. Canaan will probably try to stay away because that is what she believes Maria wants, but Maria will likely drag Canaan back because of her energetic personality.
Also, the reason Maria said Canaan so many times was because she was trying to get Canaan not to kill the boy because he wasn't going to kill her. Before the fight, he had told her that if she said anything other than "Canaan," he would blow himself up, so her only choice was to keep repeating her name in a (failed) attempt to get Canaan's attention to her rather than the fight.
The woman who shoots her aid with rubber bullets whenever she gets mad is pretty hilarious too.
I don't see how this anime relates to the game. In fact, this is a lot better than the game. This is most likely about...
Given that the stem-cell research had quite some opposition and that it was passed any way, I was expecting an anime with this topic sooner or later and here it is, from TYPE-MOON. Nice!!
The ones infected the UA have actually gain abnormal internal organ mutations of some sort, such as growing a secondary heart or being capable of hiding oneself inside a narrow space that could barely fit a newborn or having enhanced capabilities of all sorts. Apparently, the test subjects of the UA took place somewhere in the war-torn Middle East, probably Iraq.. Canaan seems to be half Arabian from those parts of the world and her family had died in the war, while she survives by having tons of grenades, survival blades, and an AK-47 in her home during her stay in the Middle East. She now lives in Shanghai as a hired mercenary and also a former member of the Snakes, a terrorist guerilla organization. Many of its members are the Chinese but Canaan seems to be the only exception and she is also being pursued by the members of the Snakes as that they want her dead for some unknown reason. However, Canaan has special abilities that enable her to have precise shooting accuracy with just a handgun yet its more accurate than another's sniper rifle during to her infection of the UA as that she is most likely one of the surviving test subjects. Anyhow, she is a friend of the photo journalist Maria and also seems to be in a love-love relation with her yet its not like they are lesbians either. Then again, its difficult to tell as that every time they meet or go out, they end up in gun fights involving members of the Snakes.
Mino-san
The journalist who is supposed to travel all the way to Shanghai to write a major article which will save an old friend's press company from bankruption due to poor sales. However, Mino-san seems to be spending more time chasing after a green-haired neko cosplayer who seems to be mute and enjoys wearing revealing clothes and don't have much of a problem taking off her tops. However, when asked of her UA infection, silences follows. In fact, Mino-san and Maria got kicked out of the Shanghai cosplay karaoke bar for asking about the UA infection symbol on the neko cosplayer's chest when she took her top off as that the manager of the bar seems to be the same guy who was trying to rescue all of those helmet individuals who were getting killed by members of the Snakes. Considering that the neko cosplayer is voiced by Noto-san, there is no way she is mute!
And now..
Just a trivial matter, yet Maria seems to be shocked when Canaan saved her life from a kidnapper by gunning him down right in front of her in order to retrieve a detonator he swallowed. Yes, a lot of blood had splattered all over the sewers but Canaan did it to save her from getting blew up by the explosives and the fact that the boy is a member of the Snakes and have the UA mutation abilities really don't make it such a big deal as that its not like Canaan killed people for no reason. Nonetheless, it seems that Maria is scared stiff while Mino-san on the other hand seems to be enjoying his time in a park with the neko cosplayer.
Next episode...
Not sure what to expect...
There is terrorism involving guerilla fighers from the Middle East, scientific experiments involving iPS cell technology, American investors in China allying with the Chinese on some grand scale conspiracy, two journalists getting caught in-between and also all sort of supernatural strangeness happening from one place to another. Looks interesting!!!
Red_Comet said: so it appears canaan doesn't have death perception but eyes that sense colors... but shes pretty proficient with the hand knife.
maria is a dumb character, sugoi my ass. thirteen episodes, they're sure taking their sweet time with the story.
I'm not really 100% sure on everything, but Canaan's 5 senses are all directly linked together somehow i think they said. So it isn't that she can see colors, it is that her senses combine to be able to "see" smells and such.
I haven't played the game, but as far as i know this series has nothing to do with mystic eyes of death perception (which are the coolest thing ever by the way). Canaan just has insanely good senses that are linked together from some mutation/virus/something, is extremely athletic and is very handy with a number of weapons. Having such good senses allows her to detect her enemies easily (likely linked to their mutations, such as that one brother having two hearts) and also probably to predict and counter what they do in a fight.
This episode explained a little bit about Canaan's eyes. For example, it detects life through the heart and can see the "colour vibes" of people. It was quite nice to see Canaan and Maria together; just like 2 any normal friends. This episode was really exciting as well. I can't wait to see how would Maria recover from her shock.
Feh, I hate catgirls.
For the first five minutes of the show I kept thinking 'FDJFNDJSFNJKSN WHERE IS CANAAN. I DON'T CARE ABOUT HER BOOBS ;_;'
After that I found the episode somewhat enjoyable. Green-haired chick looks a lot better without the stupid catgirl getup imo. Sewer scene was pretty cool, but still left some questions.
That neko girl is so hot. The story is more interesting as it have some serious moments. I hope this series will have the answers later because I am not sure at some scenes as there’s few questions that needs to be answered in order to understand what the story talks about. Canaan is an interesting character, and I want to know her past and story more as possible. I really hope that end won’t destroy their relationship after Maria was afraid of Canaan, and I wonder If Maria is able to face to her when they bump each other. Canaan still reminds me of Shiki. Young Canaan <333
The slow pace in the first half of the episode didn't make it too interesting, but the second half made up for it. A pretty interesting finale scene, we definitely know that Maria starts to fear Canaan and Canaan knows about it now (judging on the last words she says in the episode), which makes me look forward to how their relationship is going to go from here.
It was boring at certain parts and if it's gonna keep up like this where only few scenes are interesting in an episode, I'm going to drop the series. Let's hope at least some questions will be answered soon, right now this anime raises quite a lot of them without no answers.
marias really scared of canaan.........it was sad when canaan cud understand the whole rejection thing, that little kid is just suicidal.....maris sugoi thing was cute...u know how kids repeat a single phrase a million times...its annoying when they do it...the water fall thing was just funny when the journalist was sitting beside the green haired women....anyways the show seems cool...waiting for alot of action from canaan...and the alucard women...
