well i was not expecting that. didn't like this episode as much of the last one but i understand that the reason that it was for essential worldbuilding so i'm not mad, especially since it picked up pace again when we discovered that Natsume was a bug

sort of reminds me of Pastel Memories with how the entire premise of the show gets flipped on its head in the second episode, except it isn't terrible here

Felt like I was watching a cartoon, pretty much lost interest after finding that some cartoon guys control avatars and treat everything like a game.

Top 10 Weirdest Plot Twists (of Any Media Ever)
No seriously, it was really hard to handle at first, I was at episode 4 and still didn't process it completely; surely it was an interesting and very original one, and is paying off really good, it was risky but they delivered well.
Also, needed to be pointed out, the OST of this series is awesome.

Not very into the whole show thing going on, i'm really interested in the world going down there with humanity, so i hope in the end that's taking center stage, i'm interested to see how it all develops but at the same time it could be a big trainwreck. Sooo pretty confused right now but intrigued to see more.

I didn't like this plot-twist, although I admit it was delivered in an interesting way, was completely unexpected and those cartoonish characters were cute.

Too bad I lost interest in this anime. It appears to be an isekai and I'm not fond of isekai genre animes. At first it resembled SnK a lot to me and its animation was alright, but villager this episode I decided to drop this anime, unfortunately. It is not what I expected. Besides, imagine Shingeki no Kyojin being revealed as a video game of some sort, lol.

Do you even know what isekai is? It's not an isekai at all. Nobody has been transferred to another world, everything is taking place on Earth. Also, it's a video game only for cyborgs. Humans don't know that they're in the game, they think everything around them is real and they're losing their lifes for real.

Stop speedwatching.

Yeah, I know what isekai is and how this term evolved over the years. If SAO is called as a model isekai, then I see no problems in calling slightly reverse and different situation, but with similarities common for isekai anime, as isekai as well.

If I were speedwatching this show then I wouldn't watch this episode completely. I know that the world is real and that cartoonish characters created some sort of simulation for human, making their reality harsh and dangerous, while cartoonish characters enjoy it as a game (while for real humans it is not).

Instead of being picky because somebody did not a show you like just respect other people's tastes. I didn't like the concept so I dropped the anime without unnecessary criticism and that's all. No one was harmed, lol.

There's a difference between "I don't like the show because of its concept," which is a subjective opinion - I don't have a problem with that - and "I don't like the show because it's isekai," which is a wrong assumption and it's misleading, because it's not isekai since there's no another world, dimension, time travel or whatever. That's what I'm picky about.

Judging by this thread, you're not the first nor the last calling it isekai, when it's just science-fiction show, lol.

Alright then, thanks for explaining your point of view.

I agree this is not an isekai as this genre used to be understood in a proper way. This one is more like a mix of science-fiction and post-apo, at least I can say that after watching two first episodes and that recap.

However in the recent years the term "isekai", like it or not, started to be used in a wrong way and many people started to wrongly assume that any alternative setting of our world with some modifications always belongs to isekai genre. Unfortunately. That's why I mentioned SAO which is technically not an isekai, but rather sci-fi, yet many people would rage if you implied in their presence that SAO is not an isekai, haha.

Yeah, sci-fi/post-apo would be correct. The show isn't labeled as "fantasy" but "sci-fi" on MAL for a good reason.

Exactly, just because the fictional world works on slightly different rules doesn't automatically mean it's isekai. But isekai shows are destroying people's brains to the point where they no longer can see the difference between isekai/fantasy and science-fiction. And as a big sci-fi genre fan I'm not okay with that. There was this movie called Surrogates whis was very similar to Deca-Dence in terms of "going out as someone else," humans were staying at homes and were going outside as their "doubles," androids. And no one sane would think that the movie belongs to the fantasy genre, it's science-fiction. The same goes for Deca-Dence. But here in the anime community, people can't tell the difference between these two genres for some dumb reason.

Sci-fi anime, books or movies can be very creative and interesting, often dealing with difficult topics about humanity, morality etc., and I don't want this genre to be associated with isekais, which are ... well, not sci-fi, let's put it that way, haha.

Isekai only means transported to different world. There are already LNshit in space settings like Mezamera Saikyou soubi long title I don't remember whole. But it's same shit - space guilds, leveling, space pirates instead bandits and space elves instead normal ones.

Well shit, there goes my hope that they wouldn't mix these two genres together. But on the other hand, why wouldn't they... as long as there's this "being transferred to another world" theme, you can do anything with this kind of shit and set the story wherever you want. Ugh.

Just like most people in this thread, the cartoony AI stuff put me off. To me, it took a 180 from the first episode to this episode. I was really interested in the show until this episode. Idk if I'll continue to watch honestly. I might just to see what happens.

first episode was okay , typical spoiled girl and a man with a mystery mission but now we are talking like a westworld plot . i'm not sure about how i feel about that .
i mean there were some hints warriors being green colored and stuff but i think the idea isn't new but it's good and what's good about it i think the plot is reversed . the NPC world is real to the humans "takers" but it's not the robots. and i think that's interesting to watch because the normal plot would be the NPC is robots and the players are humans .
in addition to that you have the killing thing when you cheat as robots and the whole thing with players being a property to the company i think it could go the way of a "divergent" plot where you the whole system "the company " being owned to a science facility run by humans and thy invented the system of robots to conduct a search of " the one " who will not belong to the system and won't be controlled by a chip but the robots understands that if that person was to be found the whole system wouldn't be in use any more so it will choose kill .i'm ig i'm spouting bs.
overall i like the show i'm not sure about the art style of the robots i think i would like the anime more of the art style was more serious but i think it has so much potential and with this kinda plot you can't go wrong. maybe i'm wrong idk

Holy shit, so it *is* a game.

But the players are actually "property" of...something (a currently unknown entity). Not sure about dying in the game and dying in real life for the players though. I thought they said if the avatar dies the player dies. But then they said the avatar can get its arm chopped off and the player's arm would be unharmed. (Assuming they didn't tamper with their regulator.)

We got some backstory on Kaburagi, and why he's taking "chips" from people. That was helpful. But still not sure why humans have chips or how. I guess it's so the "system" can keep track of them. Why does too many human "bugs" threaten the game? Is this like The Matrix where the humans will eventually start to "resist" the game?

Not sure what his plan is with Natsume. And did he delete any of his memory when he "rebooted"?

Humans and gadoll are both just victims trapped in that dome? Or are the gadoll something else?

Show is still funny, to go along with the action, sci-fi and suspense. Enjoying it.

okay I gave this show a shot just because I have been seeing a contraversy about this show about this episode. But after watching it seems way worse than I imagined! Basically suddenly feels like watching random cartoon than anime lol.

Along with that, not a fan of how the story has been paced so far. The color design is too clean which just ruins the immersion for me.

nani the fuck is happening?

so there are those small robots who treats humans like a bug or something and apparently they are on the top of the hierarchy?

and so they are using humans as "npcs" to play that game of them which in reality it´s not a game but it´s real.

"We must get rid of bugs"

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, never in my life have I felt so trolled. I thought they were some sort of conspiracy with the enemy in the first episode or at least a serious story would be more interesting than the twist of this episode, I did not like it lol. They should have made other twist cuz it took me out of the immersion. Why did you do that? This is not SAO since the world is real (it was explained and shown briefly) but the episode was so vague in explaining it and they even spent a lot of time treating it as a game that it ended up confusing. I don't blame people thinking that its a virtual game at first.

Besides that twist, Natsume being special or a rare case at the end is even worse.

Ahhhhh. 2/5

From a random guy from the internet:

"Okay so lets see if I have this straight

The world of Deca-Dence is real and is reality for humans, however probably long before this point the Solid Quake Corporation, made a defense fro humans which are the gears. And for the gears to work properly they all have extremely advanced A.I and those A.I are the little robot guys that inclue Kaburagi and Mikey. Their purpose is to play as gears and defend the humans. However if their performance isnt good then they'll be scrapped and made into a new A.I that is hopefully better.

In short these AI are under the impression that they're playing a game, bu tin reality they are the last hope for humanity and are in a complex world made by Solid Quake to give them drive to actually do their job. If you dont do your job, you become scrapped. Or if you use a cheat that can actually affect the real world you are also scrapped.

Since the higher up are trying their best to keep the truth of the gears away from humans and the truth of humans away from the gears , people that are seen as a threat to that line are seen as bugs and must be eliminated for society top run well or humanity is at stake.

Tell me if Im wrong but thats the vibe Im getting and Im totally invested in this"

I kind like this theory

I want to believe this. It makes this episode a lot less jarring, and makes more sense IMO. I'll give it another couple episodes, but I feel really disappointed right now. I was looking forward to binging this, and Natsume is such a awesome character.

Well fuk I guess it makes it a little more unique and, interesting, I guess?? Actually no screw that I just wanted a plain and simple humans vs alien creature things with a father daughter relationship for our main characters. Instead we get tossed into the fricken matrix. Dang it, once I’ve thought I’ve found a fun anime it just falls on its face for me. Guess I’ll watch another episode, whatever... but really this turn of events is a major turn off. I am glad though they did this here now in the second episode instead of smacking this bs into our face like at the last second

Some idiot had spoiled that this anime had a twist akin to SAO in the general forums and I ended up reading that. So I knew the general direction this episode was going to take. So the twist didn't hit me unfortunately.

It is not a game and those creatures seem like aliens so this is giving me more of Gurren Lagann and AOT vibes. So far the story is okay - nothing spectacular. I don't really like the cartoonish designs of those creatures. Hopefully the story gets better in the later episodes.

This turn an EXTREMELY unexpected turn. I don't really know how I feel about it yet.

It was funny how the girl thought he was a pickpocket. I doubt she could ever come to the correct conclusion.

I assume the reason why the system thinks that she is dead is because of her arm.

Yeah um, what? I'm having a difficult time understanding why this series is trying so hard to be messy because it's hard for me to get immersed in the worldbuilding depths. One thing that makes this show understandable is that every battling a monster who threatens to destroy the human race type of anime is that they use 0 gravity in order to fight.

This threw me for a loop in the most positive way possible. Tiny little virtual AI rule the world and have enslaved all the humans? Where do I sign up? Seriously, though, it seems that the tiny AI themselves are slaves to some kind of corporate power. What that corporate power looks like remains to be seen. Other questions arise as well: why do they need a giant moving rock fortress (maybe just 'cause it's awesome?)? Why do the AI need the monster blood? Aren't they in a virtual space? Hopefully those questions are answered in due time. Boy I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
