The series had some nice ideas and after reading some of the comments in this thread I see how it is fairly smart too. But my personal feeling is that you shouldn't have to look that deep to make sense of the content.

In particular, I think the ending was a bit rushed and didn't explain enough, like where did the "sun" come from and why was it the only thing that needed to be destroyed to be at peace? Did the parents know they would get better or were they really that absorbed into the society to not care? Why did some of the girls get better super quick and others took forever? Plus many more :)

However, I did enjoy the art, the characters were likable, and things like the mankai and their consequences were fun to watch. I'd give it a 7/10 and will probably watch the sequel/prequel that is coming.

They all went back to normal and Togo could walk again. I defninitely wasn't expecting that to happen.

I thought it was funny when Yuuna was in the wheelchair and is was Togo pushing her around, roles reversed.

That was a wonderful show.

Very much looking forward to the 2nd season.

After all they went through I was rooting for a happy ending , but I also thought a tragic/more ambiguous ending would have been more fitting given the tone in the last three episodes. All things must pass...

I know about the prequels, but is there going to be a sequel? I don't want these girls to fight anymore!

Really liked the twist with Tougou wanting the vertexes to destroy the Divine Tree. Like a ritual suicide (well, almost...).

Some of the theories a few pages back are fascinating. Yuuna might still have some surprises in store for us, then.

8/10, overall. A post-Madoka show, yes, but it can stand on its own. The pacing is a bit off, though. Good OST, only now I find out Nier's composer worked on it!

Wow, not going to complain........quite liked the end, plenty of subtle hints to interpret the whole 'sacrifice' thing and how Shinju-sama returned them either as appeasement or benevolence. 8/10

Can't help but think that Shinju-sama has a leg fetish, taking them as 'offerings' from 4 diff. girls..........

Beautiful, the ending is definitely deserving of controversy but I can't help but feel so happy for them, I want to believe that Shinju-sama returned the offerings to them as a sign of gratitude. Anyways, let's see if the upcoming sequel gives an answer to everything, I'm so hyped.

10/10, one of my favorite series, rewatching it today reminded me how much I love this anime, these girls are true heroes.

Not sure how I feel about everyone returning to normal with so little explanation. Even Togo is walking again...

Overall an enjoyable anime. I can't wait for that second season.

They manged to make a happy ending out of it. Still satisfied.

I cried in this episode. I thought that Yuuna condition will be permanent and was shocked when she fainted.

10/10. A great series. Looking forward to season 2.

How disappointing. It started off rather solid in the first 6 or so episodes. However there were quite a few plot holes, the faeries had no personality, the world had no sense of world building and wonder, and the ending was just an arse pull. 5/10. Wishes it was as good as Madoka.

Is the Taisha Kyubey of YuYuYu? The ending was somewhat of a mixed bags. They deserve that happiness. But I wanted to know what happened after that. Did they get any punishment for what they (the girls) did. They almost destroyed the entire world not that it deserves to be saved anyway. They lure young girls with grandeur of being a hero and putting them in death match where they can't die. Who the hell is the Head, heck even the teacher just used then as tools and left. This is much darker than Madoka. In that there were no govt controlling your every move and your had a choice. In here you don't have any choice. All e adults including their parents are just
deciving the children. I'm with Washington on this.

I spent some time wondering how the hell this could be an issue, but later checking the Madoka discussion threads I realized why. You have reached such fanboy levels that something this unimportant is somehow an issue because Madoka did a thing, it doesn't even matter this show wasn't going for the same thing.

And you know what, since we are down to this. I'd rather have the quiet fairies than something as cringy as that squeaky voice saying stuff straight out of an edgy 13-years old's blog such as "Mankind is just cattle". But maybe the true depth of that is lost to me, I probably don't have the high IQ you need to understand "Baby's first magical girl"

Kyubey was a much more interesting character than any of the faeries in Yuuki Yuuna though.

I really think they needed to draw this out over another episode or two. So much happened in such a short time. Things like Karin's Sange didn't have time for the emotional impact to hit, and the returning of the offerings and updating the hero system weren't explained at all because it was so rushed.
I don't mind having a cliche happy end, but exposition was needed and we didn't get it.

If I were re-writing this ending, I'd have had the final battle be one episode, and then the last episode being something more slice-of-life that starts with the girls adjusting to their newest disabilities, and then realizing they are getting better slowly. There'd be some explanation for why Shinju-sama didn't need to keep the offerings - maybe it didn't take the ability, just the knowledge of how to use it, so they have to re-learn. Going to physical therapy together and things like that. I wouldn't change anything about Yuna's recovery, but taking the time to show everyone working to adapt and recover would fit the message of willpower and supporting each other a lot better, and hopefully seem less sudden and jarring.

Still, it was mostly Tougou's fault though :'D But I'll let that slide...

I'm pretty happy everyone got better, I was worried and sad seeing Yuuna like that :( Probably the saddest I felt after Fuu's breakdown and Karin's broken state in the previous episode.
I know it sounds weird but I would have kind of preferred if there was some permanent damage here and there to make it at least a bit less happy (not necessarily the ones they suffered from before). Or at least make Yuuna's recovery slower. I wonder if that dizziness at the end was foreshadowing or just another red herring.

I was about to ask what happened to the girl who was Tougou's friend, but it seems like she got better as well.
I wonder what actually happened and it makes me a bit mad. Was the tree somehow able to close the hole thanks to the power of friendship it recieved from the girls? Is the tree even there anymore? Will others have to take their place now...?
I hope these will be answered in the 2nd season (if that's what that sequel is).

Anyway, I liked this quite a lot, my favorite parts being the amazing soundtrack, the outfit/mahou shoujo designs and the flower motifs and their meanings. I must agree though that it had a bit too many red herrings, pacing issues and overall lack of actual direction here and there. I think a bit more of a serious tone would have helped the anime a lot.
For now it gets an 8/10 from me.
Still, it was a fun ride and I'll be sure to watch the prequel and after that the sequel as well :)

Am I the only one who is lost? Like I understood everything that happened, but it's like none of the consequences for the final battle were explored and the Taisha is a basically unexplained entity. I felt for these girls, but I was so confused by everything that it was hard to get invested. Did I miss something?

Not really, most of that stuff is touched upon in the prequel and the sequel, while S1 left it as it was.

I'm glad I'm not missing anything that was there. Do you know why they chose to do that? It basically makes it to where a majority of the audience has to seek out extra information just to understand all the facets of the show.

It's because Yuuki Yuuna is a multimedia franchise, it has anime, light novels, manga and all of those are tied into the main plot, so they structured it like that in order to make people buy the other material in order to get the full picture. I think there's even some games, but those aren't as important to the plot as the LNs and the manga, at least as far as I know. However, you can understand most of the really important stuff by just watching the anime, that's pretty much what I did anyway. Aside from S1 there's the Washio Sumi's Chapter, which is an anime adaptation of a prequel LN, and the Hero's Chapter, which is an anime-exclusive sequel.

There's another prequel LN called Nogi Wakaba wa Yuusha de Aru, but that one never got adapted into anime, just a manga, which was the version I read because I'm too lazy to read LNs. Nogi Wakaba isn't absolutely required to understand the anime's plot, but there are a few callbacks to it in Hero's Chapter and I personally found it to be the best part of the series, so I would recommend reading it if you liked the anime and wanted something more.

Fuck this was bad.

After the already boring fights of the last 2 or 3 episodes I thought we would atleast get a decent ending.

How can you straight up copy madoka magica and make it so boring and bland?

Asspull happy ending which makes everything up to this point a waste of time. Wonder what happened to vegetable girl, did she also get better? Kinda doubt it. So I guess the god here realised fucking with these kids is a bad idea and reverted everything. I guess some other kids are forced to take over.

Im so angry right now, I actually cared for this show after one of them lost their voice.

How was this so bad. How has this another season.

I kinda want to find out if they are better, but I guess I would rather watch endless eight for an entire week rather than wasting time on this. To think I was actually looking forward to this. Why is the only good magical girl show madoka?

I thought the ending was pretty bad, even if it does make a lot more sense after reading the prequel LN. Outside of that, this show's a perfect 10 for me.

it is all explained in a bonus short story called Sonoko After (Sonogo no Sonoko), which happened right before the epilogue at episode 12 (before their hero show at the end). you can probably find it with google, it is rather short and worth the read to tie all loose ends

I also found it a shame that they had to do that on another media instead of just putting it altogether so people can appreciate this show MUCH more

I'll be honest I'm a bit conflicted on what to think about this ending. On one hand, I'm supposed to be happy about it, but on the other hand, it feels like a giant cop-out. Idk what to think.

Personally, I thought the first two parts (up to ep 9) were decently done, nothing too great, nothing too boring, but that last part was poorly executed plotwise. Might just be me tho.

Not a fan of the last three episodes, too much melodrama to get a good emotional response out of me, unlike episodes 8 and 9, which had time to develop in prior episodes. Plus it was a bit confusing to follow at times, the whole fighting sequence.

No quarrels about the ending, it's not even the ending, isn't it? There's plenty more seasons after this. Overall, pretty good, likable cast with some wholesome moments, great tonal shift, average final episodes. 7/10.

Since everyone was comparing this to Madoka, I was expecting a more bombastic ending like they'd reset the whole world with godly powers or something. But the ending was more open-ended and ready for a 2nd season.

In the beginning, it was Yuuna pushing Tougou's wheelchair. In the end, it was Tougou pushing Yuuna's wheelchair.

Somehow the heroes survive

I had low expectation when I decided to watch this tbh, so no huge disappointment for me.

I would say this is a "Modified and simpler" version of Madoka. Madoka is more complex where YuYuYu is just a simple, linear and cliche "cute girls become Magical Girl" story with a lot of friendspowerup and asspull

In conclusion: ehh, decent
