Everything about this first episode already feels way more professional than Persona 4 The Animation

If you haven't played Devil survivor 2 then I can understand why you would feel this way. The storytelling and pacing is WAAAY different in DS2 manga/anime than in the game. Some examples: They didn't beat the demons to get them, MC didn't sniff Makoto's hand, Joe was supposed to be introduced, and MC summoned one of the strongest monsters in the game without fusing. Say what you want about P4A but at least it followed it's source material more closely than this.

But it was at a horrible pace, i honestly prefer it this way, of course i would prefer a non-rushed proper adaptation but if i had to choose...

Anyway i'm just talking about the first chapter, i don't know how desu2 manga continues.

P4A had to incorporate social links (how you level up your persona besides grinding) into the main story to show that the power of friendship is important. No, admittedly it didn't focus on the murder case every episode but it made sure to keep the funny parts and side developments of the game which most of the fans wanted to see.

The way its going now DS2 will undoubtedly be rushed unless it has more than 13 episodes. Nevertheless it can still be a good adaptation episode one was okay and they are handling the demon fights well.

I was mainly comparing the first episodes of both, in p4 they tried to squeeze in a fuck tons of things in the first episode to get to the first battle and it didn't feel good. I rather have them skipping things (assuming they add them later) if they want to reach a certain part in a episode, which was killing duhbe in this case.

Of course some things are already lost (like yamato wanting to imprison them) but joe can be easily added latter, he was only there so you have another party member in the first day tbh.

It's called a push up bra. :/

Anyways it was a first good episode. I'm not into the boy saves world shounen anime, with a few exceptions, i just hope this one is not your typical shounen. So far the characters are likeable. SO FAR.

But when the curly hair dude summoned the "BYAKO" And they made a big deal out of i *rolls eyes* oh great, here we go.

Anyways i'm glad daichi didn't die, the girl had another creature to use and saved him. :D phew!

But i'll admit, the Byako was pretty cool.

But also, daichi has the little cute thing lol.

Well done. Perhaps most promising anime of this saeson so far. I liked the dark atmosphere. Even felt a bit Death Note vibe somehow. Also, it reminded me of War of the Worlds when a marshmallow-shaped flying object destroyed a town. The whole episode was so tense time flew and I felt as if I had a roller coaster ride.

It's opposite to relaxing slice-of-life anime such as Shirokuma Cafe. Must be hard for creators to keep the viewers glued to the screen throughout the entire series when it comes to this kind of intense anime cuz the audience tend to demand/expect excitement more and more as the series goes. I hope they will do it successfully. Fingers crossed

Definitely love this. I played both Devil Survivor games and I know a lot about the other Atlus games. People should play this game to truly understand everything, but it's not required.

Multiple routes/endings, more character development, hilarious dialogue choices for MC and a fun tactical RPG. If you plan on playing the game, I recommend waiting for the 3ds remake. Also you might want to try Devil Survivor 1 (also on 3ds) which has better plot and atmosphere but inferior gameplay.

This was so rushed. They cut out way too many things from the game. Day 1 would probably fit 3 episodes. Joe was ignored, Makoto first contact, different Dubhe fight.
Persona 4 seems better so far being closer to the game plot.

New Game+ There is no way for MC to summon Byakko on day 1. He has loads of macca.
Makoto, Io and rest of the boob cast will keep me watching this ^_^ Mostly Makoto.

If the anime is really 13 episodes long hope there are going to be other seasons covering different endings.

From information provided by TV magazines in Japan, Devil Survivor will have 13 episodes.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Well watched the first episode. I was waiting for this one as this was one of my favorite games. The animation, op/ed was good but still...........It was rushed as hell. It's following the manga and leaving some important things out. Well maybe this is just my thoughts, but if they followed the pattern of the game and gave it 2 episodes, it would have been much much better. But nonetheless a enjoyable episode. It will be enjoyable as long as they don't ruin character development and cut out some events by rushing the anime.

Also 64k macca and a lv 50+ Byakko from the start!!! What kind of cheat is the anime using???

BTW people comparing this ti P4A.........let me tell you this:
P4 is a lot harder to adapt compared to DS2 but they still managed to do a good and faithful adaptation. If you played both games you should know. Personally, i was left with a satisfied feeling after watching episode 1 of P4A but as for DS2, i am finding myself complaining about too many things. Well that's what i get for being too excited.

By the way, one thing that may be said against the show is its sakuga (art and animation) is not too impressive. No big problem but nothing to write home about either. As I understand, bridge is a minor studio and before this the only anime that it worked as the primary animation studio is Mitsudomoe (and its sequel). Perhaps this is one reason.

There are a lot of good shows that are supposed to come out this season, so I'm not sure how this will end up compared to everything else, but it's certainly a good start.

One point I'd initially forgotten though that I'm going to point out:

What Happened

"OMG, it has a video of us being crushed and killed by a train"
"Well that was weird, oh look, that tunnel in the video is the one here!"
"That's kinda weird....."
*sound of approaching train*
"Yeh that really is freaky....."
"urm, do you want to leave?"
"Yeh... okay"
*They're too late, earthquake occurs and they're crushed by train"

What should have happened
"OMG, it has a video of us being crushed and killed by a train"
"Urm, aren't we in that tunnel now?..............."
"...... FUCKING RUN DAMN IT"
*they run away, avoiding calamity*
As if you would Believe a video could tell your future, and have a proper mindset to actually start running.

I agree,They thought it was a joke , Plus I'm sure if anyone was in that situation they couldn't react properly and its an anime so who cares lol

Okay, let me just paint the situation for you:
They are on the platform, and the receive the video, which shows a very realistic video (cause it's real) of a train derailing, them trying to run but then getting crushed.

Now if it was just an image of them stuck under a derailed train, I would understand and probably agree with your point, however;
1) It was not an image, but a whole fucking video, which included not just their faces but their clothes as well.
2) In the video it showed them on the same position on the platform as they were "in real life" at the time.
3) The timing with which the video appears.

Now, I'm not a superstitious person, however I would most likely move away quite rapidly, if not immediately, then the moment I heard the train approaching.

But yeh, who cares really, it's just a bit dumb.

All the scenes in Tokyo, from the Aoyama University at the beginning, to the Shibuya crossing and the Shibuya underground station, to the Roppongi Hill where the three characters rested to Shimbashi public square where the ice cream cone landed from the sky, all look familiar and real to people who live in Tokyo. And the large crowd of people got stuck in public area and the long walk back home through thronged streets reminded me strongly of the 25km walk I took to walk back home when the huge Tohoku earthquake struck 2 years ago.

You summed it up pretty well.

On a different topic, do someone know why they started with DS 2 and not DS 1, seeing that both the characters and story of the first game are better than that of the second ? It would have definitely been easier/better/more logical, but well, DS 2 was still an excellent game and the adaptation feels very anime-ish as ROOOARRR pointed out.

I really liked the first episode, definitely a nice amount of tension. Nothing like having the city destroyed on the way home from school/practice exams. And it's always nice to see some of my favorite Megaten demons animated. Byakko may have been absent in Persona 4 the Animation but he looks great here. Also, how did a low level newbie summon a high level demon so early on? I guess it'll be revealed within in the anime's plot, I hope.

Unlike Persona 4, I have yet to get around to playing either of the Devil Survivor games (I have both sitting on my shelf). I'm eager to see how this adaptation plays out as a newcomer to DS2.

Even if Devil Survivor 2 the Animation is a solid show I know enough will be cut out of the game to make playing it worthwhile. I.E. whatever the anime spoils of the game there will still be a lot to discover when I finally play it.

I'm looking forward to episode 2.

The common opinion is that DS1 has a better plot, but DS2 has better characters.
Anyway the main reason is probably due to the DS2: Break Code remake recently announced for 3DS.

Probably because DeSu2 is the most "personaish" of all others megami tensei games, also it's newer and it's having a 3ds version soon.

The game has completely different endings(and it's not just a different ending sequence) so playing the game is still really worthy even if the anime spoils one path.
