Thought she would be a cliche female character who would always need to be saved by her prince.

She's intelligent. She was able to get out of the prison cell and she used her knowledge as an alchemist to paralyze Mihaya. Even though she still somewhat needed to be saved I respect her determination.

In the manga and here, I liked Mihaya, he doesn't seem too bad. .o. But I LOVE those guards, they were always so funny. XD So glad Shirayuki doesn't come off as a damsel in distress, even when she's captured. She doesn't just sit there and wait, she does something. Zen is awesome as always, and I can't wait for the next episode! [spoiler] Obi will appear! Yayyy! Ninjas FTW. .o.

Zen is the weak link of this show. He's so dull. I hope he gets a little more interesting.

Thankfully, Shirayuki kicks ass. Literally.

try yourself to get laid with a "pure and strong lady" without being friends in a world where apart from bandits and the alikes, nearly everyone is a good person.

actually, try that yourself right now in real life, it shouldn't work if you try it with the right person.

The OP is beautiful.

Man, this anime is unique. The bad guy this episode wasn't just any generic one, he had his reasons and his own desires. Best of all, they made sense.

Idk about you guys, I loved it A LOT. Shirayuki is a badass. Instead of staying in one place, she used her wits to get out and even succeeded in it. Gotta love her.

The ED is beautiful, too.

This is a beautifully presented show. The score is gorgeous as well, very reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts to me.

This is is what Disney would be if they made an anime. I'm enjoying this one a lot.

i ask you on behalf of my italian scanlation team, what the heck means what you just said?
i say because for example in another manga i read "that magazine barely scores a 25" and since then, i'm walking in pure darkness,i have no idea what that means and internet doesn't help this time around.

Even though the guy still went to prison, I still felt bad for him. Others may see that his back story was just there to feel sorry for him, but I feel that he made a good point when he said, "When the rich lose all their wealth, all they ever end up is with nothing" (not exact wording, but same meaning)

I'm not going to justify that kidnapping Shirayuki was right, because it really wasn't. But I did end up sympathizing for the dude. It would have been nice if he didn't end up in jail and got a second chance instead, but I already know it won't happen.

I'm liking Shirayuki aleady. Cute, strong personality and charming.

Seems like a lot people are after her. 2 episodes in and she already met 2 guys with bad intentions. Although the guy this episode wasn't as bad as Raj.

Shirayuki going all out in escaping. Locking him in the cell, using the lantern as a weapon by burning paralyzing herbs inside, escaping from the window. This girl is brave indeed.

The show reminds me a bit of Soredemo Sekai.

Me watching this episode:

1. Damn, that new guy looks like the cliched "bad guy who learns error of his ways and becomes good guy" material
2. Only Zen's nick-of-time arrival stopped him from sticking a flaming torch through Shirayuki's face!
3. FUCK, he's going into a sob story and she's sympathetic and it's all heading down to her forgiving him and forcing Zen to give him a job and he'll be added to her harem even after what he's tried to do.
4. OMG, they averted that trope (and I'll even let go her giving him the medicine for this)! I love this show! (now here's hoping he never ever appears again, especially to become one of the good guys after all)

Poor Shirayuki! Seems to have no peace in his life, another fool wants kidnap, narrative scheme of events is similar to the previous episode, however, the entry of Zen was exciting and the usability is excellent, drawings and animations very good, ditto the sets .

I like the ending song.

And the episode was alright, but I find Shirayuki very annoying. I rarely dislike/hate character this quickly, but she's very annoying. I just can't stand characters who are weak and often rescued by someone.
Zen is cute, but he started to like Shirayuki a bit too quickly.

I hope the remaining episodes aren't going to repeat themselves (rescuing her over and over again).

Shirayuki escaping is baddass. Great scene when used that smoke bomb lamp on that guy, I nearly thought she made a molotov cocktail too.

So is the rest of the anime a mixture of her learning to be a court Herbalist and bounty hunter guys trying to kidnap her?

Who is making all the medicine back in Tanbarun, are people just gonna get sick?

I'd like to say I'm liking this show, and I am, but then I find myself flip-flopping my opinion on it when it comes to cliche scenarios like this.

Then again, this is a shoujo anime, and it would probably be unfair to criticize it for having overly-idealized fluff when that's such an omnipresent aspect in these types of shows to begin with, so I'll try to overlook it.

Well, it's going to be hard to imagine for me to like another episode more than this one!
One word: WOW
I absolutely love it when the main female character can take action to her own hands and rescue herself!
It reminded me of the episode from Full Metal Panic TSR (9) when Kaname found out who her stalker was, my fav. episode from that series c:

I'm loving the two of them together, so happy to see their friendship development before romantic feelings show c:
Super high expectation from this series~

When Shirayuki broke out of the cell I was left with my mouth agape. The episode would have been worth it for that sequence alone. She's quick on her feet and her mind is her best weapon. But she reaches her physical limits extremely quickly, she's left winded even after briefly running around the castle. This makes her plenty believable as an untrained but smart action survivor.

While I'm a little worried about future episodes now, because I really don't want a kidnapping to happen "once per episode"... It was cool that the kidnapper explained his reasons, so as to avoid being a faceless villain. I also liked that the kidnapping was foreshadowed by the two lowlives in port, and that afterwards, Shirayuki promised to be more careful. The little detail of Zen having to catch his breath after the swift and graceful rescue was nice, too. But yeah, even Outlander allowed Claire to catch a break once in a while...

Shirayuki already has a fairly clear goal now! It seems that she and Zen inspire each other: Zen takes his work more seriously, seeing Shirayuki's spirited ambition, and Shirayuki aims to work even harder so as to not waste her freedom and the opportunities that she gained access to thanks to Zen.

Two episodes in, Zen is an idealistic young man, he finds great beauty in his country and outdoor activities. He is obviously driven by adventure and would rather stay physically active than spend time in his office. He is also down to earth, as he didn't mind sharing a cart with commoners. A classic hero, but he has a kind heart, and demands no reward for his efforts to save Shirayuki. He lacks ambition, so it makes sense that Shirayuki would catch his interest, beyond her looks.

There may be an uncomfortable half-truth to the kidnapper's comment on Shirayuki's future. That her best option is to offer herself to a rich noble, and then she won't have to worry about getting kidnapped, and instead could live a life of comfort and leisure. The thing is, he's not entirely wrong, as she's already almost done this: even though she always makes a good effort resisting her enemies, so far it seems that ultimately she still needs Zen to protect her. Of course, the real reason why this is not the same deal that the kidnapper envisioned is because Zen is Shirayuki's friend, and she's friends with him out of her own volition, not because she settled. This dilemma might just be one of the main conflicts going forward, and I like it.

We got a bit more clear picture on the kingdom of Clarines. While Zen seems to be a fair prince, his country is not quite a utopia: crime and poverty very much exists, even if they're not exactly rampant. There's a meritocratic element to the government, as the most skilled people can apply for sponsorship to the royal court, through rigorous exams.

While I know that this is a fairy tale in a lot of ways, I want to see a bit deeper into Zen and Shirayuki's personalities. Surely they have at least one flaw, each. Right now, my only guess is that Shirayuki is probably hard-working to a fault, while Zen's idealism might become an obstacle for him.

Is it bad that I totally see the transparency of the bait of making Shirayuki witty and brave yet Zen still comes to save her. Not saying it's bad, I just can see it too clearly.

But her idea with the lantern and the gas, holy fuck the ingenuity.

After watching these couple episodes I get the feeling this show is going to be very generic. I'm not feeling any great interest in these characters.

I wouldn't mind knowing just how the prince found Shirayuki in the first place though. Him just turning up in the right place seemed ridiculous to me. Also wondering if he is one of those "thou shalt not kill" characters, a kidnapper who takes your girl and then pulls a sword on you and you take him alive for whatever reason. How gallant.

Main girl taken captive two episodes in a row, pattern? Rescue the damsel? The damsel who is used to mountains and forests but couldn't feed or warm herself in the first ep. Perhaps some survival skill should have been learned as well as herbs? Bleh.

I love a female protagonist who is strong and courageous like Shirayuki. She is a type of heroine who is NOT OVERLY DEPENDENT on her knight-in-shining armor. She does not wait around to be saved and she tries her best to escape from her captor. She is bold and confident. That is why I love her. ❤️

ZEN SAVES THE DAY. ❤️

Good to see that Shirayuki's quick thinking is still here; too many times do characters show strength and wit in an early episode, only for those traits to be disregarded for the rest of the show. Anyone who's calling Shirayuki a weak damsel in distress has clearly missed how she didn't sit on her ass waiting for someone to save her, but used her ingenuity to figure out a way to escape without relying on the possibility that someone would show up and help her.

It also makes sense for her not to be able to physically fight off Mihaya so easily, since she wasn't trained in combat, presumably hadn't eaten for a day since she was captured, and must've inhaled some of the paralyzing smoke as well.

Nice episode. A bit cliche with the damsel in distress feel to the episode BUT Shirayuki does at least put up a good fight without really being skilled in combat at all with trying to use the power of paralyzing herbs to try and slow Mihaya down in this episode, just a shame he seemed to be immune enough to it where she couldn't escape completely on time. She's not strong in terms of fighting ability but strong in terms of mindset and drive, and her conversations with Zen in this episode were really nice too. They have some really good chemistry already, which is nice to see when only two episodes have aired up to this point. Zen's not an entitled prince who demands or expects Shirayuki to love him in a romantic/marital sense, he's someone who met a nice girl and became friends with her, putting her on an equal footing as him when he confronted Mihaya and he recognized that he was the second prince.

The art was a bit stiff at times and not really refined like I mentioned in the previous episode with some frames looking a bit weirdly off model at times, but the style is still very aesthetically fitting and pleasing to look at, especially with designs great like Shirayuki's for example. Music continued to deliver nicely too. Good episode/start. Lacks originality but makes it up with personality.
