@Saphiran

Most anime in my experience don’t have any point to them, and there are only a relative few that have a message in their story for the audience.

So are you saying that you only like when anime characters hate each other and are at each others throats, never making peace with each other?

It was not the best writing, but nothing in the anime was “garbage” or “cringe”, and the “let’s be friends” was only suggested after the Lion’s Head lost their fights, because the Furin leader didn’t want to take over the group.
@ejleon I am saying that it was overdramatized in literally every aspect. From character's backstory to his behavior. And after several beatings concluded in friendship. Not the best writing? More like pathetic. But, you are free to disagree. Just like 90% of posts here are disagreeing with your opinion.

First: I’m not taking to 90% percent of the people here, I’m talking to you, so let’s just discuss our own perspectives.

Second: If you are so unconfident in your own perspective, that you need to use a fallacious argument “appeal to numbers”, then maybe I chose the wrong person to talk to.

Third: Basically all anime are exaggerated, over the top, and unrealistic, so your first complaint is not saying very much.

Forth: As I always say, if you are going to claim this is “pathetic writing”, then I’d suggest that you yourself write a better story, since you are claiming to be a good judge of what a well written anime is.

Fifth: I ask again, are you only for characters hating each other and being at each others’ throats, instead of making peace?

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@ejleon I only said that opinions don't need be consentaneous. Everyone can agree or disagree with everything. But, of course you took it the wrong way. The hell would I "appeal to numbers"? This has nothing to do with it. In fact, you are getting everything wrong. I literally spelled out and pointed out exactly what I hated about this episode. And yes, I can call it fucking garbage if I want to.

I never claimed anything about what a well written anime is. And that whole " if you claim is bad write it better" is retarded statement people use when they have no actual argument. Criticizing is forbidden cuz reasons. Stupid.

And you can ask million times, I already answer your questions.

@Saphiran Oh… You are claiming that your comment about the “90%”, was not an obvious attempt to pressure me and discredit what I said, while acting like you had support for your own point? And you were just saying that we are all free to think and say what we want, whether it agrees or disagrees with others?

If anything is a load of garage, that would take the cake. 🤣

I never said you can only offer praise or that can’t offer genuine criticism, that is a lie.

Your comment “writing is pathetic” is extremely general on purpose, since you don’t actually have any useful writing help to offer, that much is obvious.

You never answered my question and you keep saying “let’s be friends” is in some way bad.

@ejleon Take a pill and chill for a second. You didn't write anything that I would need to discredit you for. Opinion are just opinions. And you keep asking me to explain mine. I tried even when I don't have to. That's why I wrote you are free to disagree with it.

I called writing pathetic. And? I don't need to rewrite that part of anime and elaborate how it would be better. I could but I won't.

"Let's be friends" is already explained. I said, it was already done to death and done better and I am fucking sick of it. In this anime, especially considering the context of the story it's just so fucking bad. If you're asking in general do I have an issue with it, maybe I do. Depends in what type of anime and how it is done. Sometimes it works, most of the time it's just annoying to watch.

Very good episode, I really liked the way they built everything that happens to Choji and Togame, Choji looking for his happiness/freedom and getting lost along the way and moving away from others (hence the empty and sterile desert) Togame trying to maintain/join the glass pieces (that is, maintain the team and choji), etc.
From my point of view, everything is well constructed and understandable/interpretable, and it is accompanied by a nice soundtrack.
The ending made me laugh, because Umemiya treated everything like a show hahaha

PS: What will happen now with the Shishitoren and what will be next? I guess it will be another more terrifying group so to speak, otherwise I have no idea what else it could be about haha

The fight was eye opening in literal sense. Hope Shishitoren able to mend their way especially Choji, what's the point of having gang but taking them off like nothing and treat them like tools. Furin doing cheritable work as usual, i guess and even outside of their area.

@akixangel Lol yeah right like 90% of anime doesn't have mega-cringe, overly emotional dialogue between two characters, no less two males. Get a grip.

All male cast shounen are still made for male-targeted publications in Japan, and inevitably lots of female fans latch on as well for obvious reasons. This doesn't mean the writing or characters are specifically meant to cater to females, or to bait them. Haikyuu, Blue Lock, Tokyo Revengers, and this...all made for male publications and have huge manga sales numbers with their male audience. Nah, it's whatever bias you have about how non Japanese media typically portrays two males interacting that makes you think the usual corny levels of emotional character interaction in Japanese media is meant to be gay or to be bait. The dramatic way the Wind Breaker characters have been acting is very, VERY Japanese "young audience" writing.

I'm not saying this doesn't cause appeal hugely to females too; again for obvious reasons it does, and that's why you'll see "accessory" type merch for male-cast shounen specifically dominated by female buyers. But these are still intended to be dude stories written by dudes. There are also all or mostly-male cast anime or manga written FOR women (like Vanitas or Black Butler), as there are all or mostly-female cast anime written FOR men (any idol anime). What do ALL of these have in common? Super emphatic character behavior and drama.

And you missed my point about BakuDeku. It's the fact that the characters are not a ship within the story but fujos absorb and process it as such because they misinterpret the intense character dynamic as being romance, taking "bait" that's not *literally* there. You're engaging in the same misinterpretation with Wind Breaker. It's a choice fujos will make too, but the writing is meant to dictate it as something else.

@akixangel Brother in Christ you crossed into the absolutely delusional zone. BakuDeku is not a canon romance ship, the fact that once again you can't see the "hot-blooded youth frenemy" trop in both MHA and Wind Breaker is an extremely common male audience trope commonly misinterpreted as romantic by fujos, totally disproves your point about audience targeting. I don't care if people ship them, why does that even matter? I'm saying you're doin the SAME thing fujos are. Misinterpreting an interaction as romance bait.

Also the fact that you cited Manga Pocket and multiple manga targeted towards a male audience lmao. Manga Pocket has a wide variety but it is a Kodansha digital offshoot of Weekly SHOUNEN Magazine. This is a manga line for boys. Lmao you heard that a crossdresser was in the manga so it confirmed your assumptions? What about Re:Zero? Fate series? Even MHA has a crossdresser. BlueLock has a slightly "femboy" character too. This doesn't mean literally anything, it's incredibly common in almost anything nowadays for this kind of character to appear.

For someone who accuses me of not liking a ship unless it had a girl, it's strange that you automatically assume emotional drama between male characters MUST mean that the manga is targeted toward females. Anime emotions are only for girls, right? Wind Breaker certainly leans heavier on the aesthetic character designs and emotional drama than something like even Blue Lock; I'm not going to say it's Baki or Ippo levels of manliness. But nothing that's happened so far is outside of the realm of overdramatic, impassioned frenemy based shounen as a whole. Yes even the "neck bite" is just sappy melodrama.

Also doesn't mean the tide turns and the vast majority of the audience becomes female. Like Haikyuu and Blue Lock. But they're not WRITTEN for them, which is the key thing. And that's a huge part of the appeal and what makes it different from something that is, like Black Butler.

@akixangel Blud idgaf about what anime are "MoRe PoPuLaR" because I'm not 12 years old, or this isn't 2008, who actually cares? Really getting away from the subject as desperately as possible.

And I never said Wind Breaker was a battle shounen. It is within the basest shounen genre. WIND BREAKER IS SHOUNEN. It is classified as shounen on every Japanese manga marketing website, and Western. It is posted on Manga Pocket's digital offshoot of a SHOUNEN MAGAZINE. It is sideline marketed under categories where other shounen titles are placed. It's written and drawn by a male reader of Tokyo Revengers, another SHOUNEN.

There is literally no argument here. You called it yaoi bait just because male characters act emotional, which is common in a million different anime. This is not a "yaoi" trait. It's an anime trait. Fellas, is it gay to show emotions? This material is still MADE for "young men" (shounen). The style is not dissimilar from other melodramatic male-targeted anime that I already mentioned. This is such a dumb point that I can't believe I even have to mention it, and I was making fun of you because you interpreted it as such.

Already acknowledged this a hundred times, of COURSE this will have tons of female fans, fanartists etc. Again who cares? In Japan it's still intended to be written for male readers, like many shounen series that still gain huge numbers of female fans.

You can call me explaining something basic to you "glazing" and I'll just say the flipside of that is that you're reaching hard. I enjoy this anime but it's not INCREDIBLE. It's fun goofy delinquent drama, it's silly but I can also dig the story. It's fine, it's seasonal fluff. You're no different than a fujo who would come along to ruin it by shipping characters that are not romantically paired. The characters just in a melodramatic anime. That's it.

@akixangel Yeah this began when you misinterpreted a normal-ass male cast shounen drama as yaoi bait. Can you read? ASTOUNDING repeated lack of reading comprehension from you. I said the show was fine. Doesn't mean you're any less factually wrong about the marketing and sales genre.

You have nothing left now that you are looking at my post profile details, of all things, for the lowest possible hanging fruit. "Yeah well, you've been here longer than me." Absolutely EINSTEIN move lmao. I get it though, you desperately want this show to be gay. You watch a gay show you "hate" every single week so you can come here and complain about how much you hate the gay. Happy pride month babe.

@akixangel And you're still wrong about the genre. Still snooping joke artifacts from an old profile for low hanging fruit because you have nothing else. Still whining about the anime (watching less of it and not getting the intended character/drama buildup is incredibly embarrassing). Still don't understand basic Japanese anime tropes even though you're proudly not American/European. Could have fooled me on that one. Go ahead, do all these exact same things again in the next comment.

Damn, the fight was a little disappointing, ngl. I was looking forward to seeing Ume beat tf out of Choji, but all he really wanted was a conversation. Good therapy session for Choji though! Choji finally realized that what he was missing were human interactions and having relationships.

Still fail to realize how people find this cringe or boring. Like c'mon, you're joking right?

I will admit that I think they dragged out the metaphorical visuals and this series definitely was inspired by Naruto. In my opinion, the execution wasn’t there for me for the most part. Once we got toward the end there, it was simplified. Choji felt empty after becoming the strongest and instead of looking at himself, he simply blamed everyone else for that feeling and crucified them. Jo didn’t want the group to break up, so he tried whatever he could to put together the pieces.

The reason I say the execution isn’t there for the symbolism in comparison to something like Naruto is that I felt they just added on with the great visuals, but didn’t tie it together well enough to explain things on their own. One example of great execution of this kind of thing is Naruto’s Rasengan vs Sasuke’s Chidori in Naruto Shippuden. All the different hands helping Naruto with the Rasengan are his comrades and the lack of help from Sasuke is a representation of his loneliness.

Don’t get me wrong I’m still into this series, but for an anime with a shorter format, they should have focused more on the fight itself and let Hajime and Choji speak with their fists, as Hajime implied was gonna happen before this started.

I’m wonder what’s gonna happen now in the series. Will Haruka focus on training and if so, will he seek someone out? Man I’m hyped to see what comes next.

I’m losing testosterone every episode these so called delinquents do civilized activities. Where’s the dog fights, comradery, surprises? Feeling real empty after this episode especially. The result of that long arena 1v1 is everyone becomes friends now…

The leaders' showdown of Umemiya vs. Choji, the latter is not making things easy, and so does the former, who's fighting for a reason. Clearly, Choji has gone insane, and reaching the top (at least for him) is not fun at all.

Choji may have his fists, but Umemiya has his Talk no Jutsu to always try and keep talking him into reason, even with a headbutt of all things from a strong fighter-cum-therapist. Things between both groups are amicable, especially between the leaders, who had fun even fighting each other in the past. Even Choji was having fun with his buddies, that over time, lost its light. The therapist managing to calm the distorted soul, which Togame filled him in of the possible split between both guys if he'd ever take everyone away from him, finally realizing that he would've lost everything if not for Togame.

Choji finally admitting defeat, but the agreement between both groups being a farce, and the fight draws to a close, a happy ever after.

This is so inauthentic.

Nothing in it lands true. Choji, the short little psychopath we're now supposed to feel sorry for because he "wasn't having fun", while, Togame, the second in command "feels bad" because he didn't stand up for his principles and tell the psychopath to sit down and shut up.

Enjoyed the first 3 episodes, but the writing has become an unbelievable, inauthentic mess. A shame as the art style and animation are phenomenal, especially in the fight scenes, but the characters are nothing more than 1-dimensional and fake.

Edit: Still giving it an 8/10 as like the characters even if they're not always well-written, love the art style and the animation is brilliant -- fight scenes are excellent. Just a pity the cheesy, unbelievable scripts are letting it down.

And actually astonished the scripts are this bad (unless the source material is also this poor, which would make sense) as Hiroshi Seko's past work -- Vinland Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Twittering Birds Never Fly, Summertime Render etc is some of the best there has ever been.

Honestly, I love fighting anime, although my favorite fight is the one between Ayanokouji and Ryuuen. I literally fell in love with how they animated that entire scene; I've watched it several times because it had a purpose behind it.

Here, I see pretty well-animated scenes but without any sense, especially the fight involving the guy named Leo Dicaprio. I loved it, but even so, without a purpose behind it, it feels pointless to me.

In the end, I only watch this anime for the Leo Dicaprio scene and because Ayanokouji’s voice actor is in it, but you can’t really tell. Anyway, too many words lol.

Edit: Writing this made me want to watch that scene again hahaha.

Honestly, I'm glad I'm watching all the episodes in a row, without waiting a week for each new one, otherwise I'd feel bored by the amount of backstory and talking, but watching them back-to-back is much more satisfying and cohesive as a story.
I ended up enjoying it quite a lot!
I do agree with some commenters on the cheesiness of it all and questionable relationship dynamics, I could also add the weird world-building in general, but I do routinely suspend my disbelief in these regards.
Also yeah, pretty confident that the fighting itself is just a frame for the moral of the story, and I do like the character development that follows.
The production feels and looks cool to me as well.
All in all, very nice. Will watch the rest of the eps later.

It kept repeating the dude's backstory to the point of boredom. All the other episodes with their emotional moments hit spectacularly well. This, however, was mid as all hell. Even the symbolism became boring by repeating it over and over again. It was the final boss and yet it was less entertaining than the first fight which ended in less what? A minute? And even less heartfelt than the MC being given an exposition dump on why he is liked in the first episode.

Honestly, the best part about the episode was that it ended.
