I also liked that this episode already managed to get me emotionally invested and not to mention the crazyterious guy lurking around. There is so much potential. Really awesome overall. Illyricus said: So the rival is basically a chuuni who thinks he's a knight? I didn't saw that comming, but was funny anyway. I also can't take anything named "Excalibur" seriously in a work of the author of Soul Eater. Maki is wonderful. The nun is cute too, but so far, Maki looks like best girl. Gotta wait till the scantily-clad girl who can turn into a fire cat girl is introduced to properly judge. plz wait for female gray If she's not ripped as Maki then she can't be as good as her by default hehe. So piss off source fag and let us anime onlies fanboy over true beauty :> |

I don't like Arthur, he is one cocky bastard! And also I felt his rivalry with Shinra was just thrown in without a second guess, it didn't fit in and doesn't have that spark! Just because a series is a superpower shounen, it doesn't have to contain things as such this because they're deemed necessary. |

I liked the anime in general, it reminded me a bit Boku no hero, with cool and interesting characters, I also gave some laughs, I believe he is promising finally what I liked the most is that as a well-differentiated anime (About firefighters) can be so captivating. |

Although the first part was a bit boring, it was a good episode overall. I especially liked how this new incident was handled, with a more clear focus on the emotional aspect. As someone has already mentioned, the sequence with the father being so calm while being in flames was rather unsettling to see. And regarding Arthur, he seems likeable so far. At first, I was a bit afraid of him being the typical "arrogant prick" kind of rival but I'm glad he's more mature than that. P.S.: People complaining about a shounen for having shounen tropes... sigh* |

TheSpiceOfLife said: They cut Obi's dialogue to show a crimson red sky which implies the word he was going to say (murder) without him actually having to say it to the viewers. Also most of the content that was cut wasn't importantEnjoyed the episode but it certainly wasn't as good as the first. The pacing for the episode was all over the place which is odd considering the last episode was more coherent despite adapting far more manga than this one. On top of that we're still cutting content which scares me since I thought this would have 48 episodes so whats with all the stuff they are leaving out. The biggest problem in this episode is that they don't have Captain Obi finish his sentence of "while we may call it 'putting them to rest,' what we are really doing is murder" because it just ruins the impact of the following scene in which Arthur steps up and puts the docile infernal(who doesnt get to speak for some reason) to rest. Though some more positive things would be the ever stunning animation and art style, its little but I enjoy how the characters eyes glow when using their powers. More importantly I love how they made Iris have a flashback of (spoilers) fire flowers to explain why she was about to touch sputter, something that wasn't in the manga and was a great addition to the anime. Hope next week both this and Dr.stone can rebound since both had not so good episode 2s. Can I get some Fs in the chat for Sputter! :( |

Taifood said: I think the show's weakness is that it's taking too long to "get there." The pacing is far too slow for most shonen fans, which is why people are "complaining about a shonen being a shonen." MHA picked up a big following because you could see where the plot was going right from episode 1. You weren't told about what was eventually going to happen like what this show is doing. It was happening in the moment. Maki is fucking hot though. Those arms UGHHH. I'm literally sticking around just to see her do shit. Hope the plot picks up. MHA has EVEN SLOWER PACING than this at start. They literally stretch the initial boring part as much as possible. (Deku's flashback extend way more than in the manga.) |

Today's episode was quite deep and informative, in addition to introducing us to Arthur Boyle, Shinra's rival who does not seem to be a bad subject, only someone presumptuous. We also had an explanation about the users of second and third generation pyrokinesis. After this episode Maki is still the most beautiful girl, I really liked her reaction when Arthur called her and Iris "princesses" and also Hinawa mentioned something that caught my attention, that Maki is an ex-soldier, now I want to know why she became a firefighter. Maki took the practice fight seriously by defeating Shinra and Arthur easily, but things got serious when Arthur told her that she is an ogre and this unleashed her fury and got worse when Shinra makes a similar comment, how dare they tell Ogre to the beautiful Maki, pair of stupid who do not recognize the beauty of Maki, especially when Hinawa calls her a witch and we see that beautiful image of Maki witch. I wonder how harsh Hinawa is so that Maki and Iris fear him so much. The second half I think was the one that most caught my attention, the harsh reality of fighting the infernals and the respect that firefighters must have when facing the families of people who became infernal. The scene that they found was very moving in my opinion, the man who became infernal was calm, sitting and waiting for the firefighters to make him rest in peace. The man with the eye patch has my total attention, who is it? and my question is, what was his goal? Captain Obi feels that he will be a great mentor to Shinra and Arthur, full of experience and wisdom. The games of Rookies that they mentioned during the episode left me very excited, I hope to see Shinra and Arthur succeed in this event. On the other hand the animation continues to look spectacular, now I realize that the fire in this anime looks great. The rivalry of Shinra and Arthur left me with curiosity, I hope in some episode we know why they do not get along. Neko fire girl will appear in the next episode? |

I honestly felt like the animation went kind of downhill at the first part of the episode this time with unnecessary brawling and the "still, flat" animation scenes, making it awkward. The episode could've done better by just following the manga instead of making a filler scene with muscle-girl. No offense to her or anybody, but I felt like the people just slammed the scene down to get everyone to laugh but failed to. The fight scenes were so dull too despite the amazing art. Other than that, the second part was fantastic, brilliant execution of scenes and angles. The shading was awesome too. But it gets tedious for me to keep watching somehow, like the show is lacking something to keep it interesting to follow. Like a farse maybe? The scenes between Demon boy and so-called knight felt lacking in rivalry and the animation were kinda "still" and lacking in natural motion ... Like, standing, right? To a person's eye, it may seem still, but the body is never as still as any object would be on a flat table. The body is always in motion, balancing the body with the two feet and utilizing the hip. Same concept with the hand. If you hold out your hand and look at it, it can't stay perfectly still at all. That's why sometimes when you carry cameras sensitive to motion, there would be shaking to the screen somehow. I've experienced this many times before. I'm not being picky, but I felt something was lacking this time around. However, the execution of the victim this time around was nicely done. The atmosphere was nice. |

Now thats a cute way to use their fire powers for. Damm overconfident and arrogant huh Arthur looks like he'll be a problem child. Maki's skills at hand to hand was impressive and her teasing nature really matches well with her serious side as well. Maki's defeat of Arthur though was fun. The unleashing of Ogre Maki though sure was terrifying. Though transformed into monsters its important to remember that the incarnates were once human as well. A surprising side to Captain Obi actually. The teams mission to deal with the incarnate father though was interesting as it highlighted the surprisingly solemn duty that they view each crime scene and situation. The incarnates are just as much of a victim as the loved ones that they affect. Overall a strong ep that while adding in quite the curious character in the form of Arthur also served to expand the teams perception and beliefs in the course of their duties. Nice to see Maki become such a bad ass this early in the series. |

A much weaker episode than last weekend's stellar showing. Maki is super cute and sexy. I want to see more of her. The new rival character is horrible. He ruined whatever chemistry the team had in episode 1. He's insanely annoying and just ruins Shinra's character. They just sound like 5 year olds bickering at each other and it's a detriment to the show's entertainment value. I found the scene in the house well directed, but that was the best part as far as directing goes. The rest of the episode felt odd and choppy. What is going on with those weirdly psychedelic moments? They feel so out of place. And even the scene on the roof top felt awkward, so much so at times I didnt know what was happening. This episode has me nervous. I loved the first episode, but if it continues in tbr direction episode 2 took it, Fire Force is in deep trouble. |

I'm baffled at some of the criticism this show is getting. The art and visuals are top of the line, and while the plot is not exactly groundbreaking, you could say the same about 99% of the stuff that comes out every season. Maybe if Shinra was a flatchested chuni loli the show would get a better reception? And Maki man. I'm in love. Anime needs more ripped women who can kick ass. |

>Blonde guy with rude attitude. Anti-Hero or Rival, mark my words. >"He pretends like he's the smooth and silent type, but the truth is he's literally just too stupid to come up with words!" That made me laugh, to be honest. Shinra rekt him. -RIP Sputter (July 13th, 2019, 1:28:56am to July 13th, 2019, 1:31:20am) >Maki pulling an Edward Elric after being called and ogre. >Fire spirit is named Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo Nice. -That Fire Ax has a really cool design. Reminds me of Bloodborne weapons. -Those city shots with the red/orange skies looked really nice. Good on DavidPro. >Among the many fire soldiers, there are those who think of themselves as crusaders. Did somebody say DEUS VULT!? -The Captain placing the photo facedown was a nice touch. -That entire Infernal scene this episode was really good. The execution scene was pretty cool, and I actually managed to feel bad for that family. -So we have a villain now. I wonder what his motives are? I can't imagine he would have much to gain besides sadism. -The Captain saving the picture for the daughter was really sweet. >That bedtime conversation >"Waiiit" >"Shut up, I meant Knight King" I'll admit, that was pretty wholesome. It got a laugh out of me. Overall, this episode was a lot better than the last one. I'm glad there wasn't constant interruptions. The whole flow of the episode felt just right. I really do like this concept. The idea that you or a loved one could combust and turn into a demon is really messed up. I'm still wanting to see what this show does with it. I also want to know more about our villain. I'm interested in seeing what this show does. If Episode 3 is as good as this week's episode was, I'll bump the show up to a 6, but for now it's still a 5 to me. EDIT: Updated signature because Tinypic is shutting down. |

Muted colours, barely any light and pure silence, what an atmosphere especially when the execution happened. If most of the encounters are of this quality then ho boy! This episode even more so than the first one was just dripping Shaft aesthetics left & right. Really like how this makes for a more ominous world & overall vibe which surprisingly clashes quite well with the quirky character moments. >That entire scene with the father sitting at the table with his head bursting in flames was so unsettling and so well done. Muted colours, barely any light and pure silence, what an atmosphere especially when the execution happened. If most of the encounters are of this quality then ho boy! I agree. This episode's Infernal scene was really good. Especially since there weren't so many interruptions. This one's made me actually feel bad for the family and the people in this World. And yeah, DavidPro knows how to do coloring. I guess it's a good thing they picked up this show, because you're right, they nailed the atmosphere. Retolee said: I wonder what the point of the fire fighters fighting each other is. We got the Rookie games next week, but from everything we've seen, the way they fight and the way the infernals fight have little in common. I just assumed it was for the Rookie Games. It made sense to me at least, and to be fair we've only seen 2 episodes, there could be Infernals that fight more similarly to Firefighters. deg said: Maki is hot in a sexy way that is and that second half of this episode has some great directing that captured the drama well even though there is decrease in overall animation quality but meh it did not need any good animation on those parts anyway Except for her Gorilla face when she got mad. papsoshea said: I am sold on this. And that they must be mindful of the souls and their families. The visuals were also on point, again. This is going to be something I look forward to weekly now. >I like the ideas presented in the second half of the episode, and how it handled the drama - why they must conceal their weapons while in public. And that they must be mindful of the souls and their families. The visuals were also on point, again. I agree. There definitely feels like there is a lot of thought put into the way a Firefighter does his job. It was cool to see Shinra and Arthur learning all this as well. I hope episode 3 is more similar to episode 2 then episode 1, because to me, this week's episode has done a much better job at presenting this World than what episode 1 did. I'm glad somebody finally pointed this out, lol. ovo4 said: For the people complaining about content being cut, it wasn't anything important. This episode adapted from chapters 2-4 (72 paged in total). They removed unnecessary exposition and monologues(such as shinra explaining why he used his powers to get away from Maki). They did cut out a panel with very important information, but this information is reiterated a couple times later in the manga so the anime will get to it later. The anime also gave a brief summary of author Boyle' s power instead of a lengthy explanation. There was a brief moment in the manga where the girl saw her father become an infernal, this was removed in the anime. There was another page showing an important character but this was removed (and will probably be shown later on) to allow the episode to flow in better chronologically. The anime did add in a few scenes from the such as the the final scene in the episode and a iris' "vision" (good foreshadowing). The author of fire force has already stayed that he likes when anime studios take creative liberty with his works (that proved to be both good and bad for soul eater) so these changes and rearrangements shouldn't come as a surprise. Also for the people who have a problem with the direction, the show is directed by an ex shaft director so these experimental choices will become the norm in the upcoming episodes so you either get used to them or drop the series. This won't be a panel for panel adaptation like MHA, they will be changing the storyboard at times to better suit the anime format instead of straight up copying the manga format. You may not be used to seeing this in a shounen adaptation (especially if you read the manga before)so it may be off putting. >They removed unnecessary exposition and monologues(such as shinra explaining why he used his powers to get away from Maki Honestly, I hope they continue to cut out stuff like this. Characters doing that inner-monologue crap during a fight always annoys me. Just show the fight and let the viewers pick up on the small details! AnotherGuy said: HereticHunter said: Why do I see people complaining about a shounen being a shounen? lmao Because, even if it's shonen, it needs to make some sense. Why would firefighters fight amongst themselves, specially the rookies? If if was the entrance exam for them, or a yearly evaluation of the firefighters, it could make sense. But these guys are fresh out of the academy, what's the point in evaluating them now? It seems extremely out of place here, kind of like the tournaments in Shokugeki no Souma or Yakitate Japan. Authors throw in these arcs when they're out of ideas or want their characters to develop quickly. But it's episode 3 we're talking about. There hasn't been any plot or character development yet. We don't even know these people. For the Rookie Games. That's what I assumed at least. RayReynolds said: I can not believe how much they have tried to make the anime much better than manga. Call me a damn jealous but this manga did not deserve such an incredibly good production, I would prefer a thousand times to give it to berserk. Seriously I could hardly read 10 chapters, it was so boring, predictable and the characters are trash. Berserk will never good a good non-Golden Age arc adaptation. That's the thing about being a Berserk fan. Miura makes sure we share Guts' suffering, lol. Excalibur is the name of King Arthur's sword. The Arthur in this show also brings up the roundtable, which is another reference to King Arthur. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Arthur (in case you want to know more) Pakumen- said: From the United Kingdom, I am looking for her and I am going to California! I love this anime. It has comic, action, and dramatic scenes. Perfectly balanced, as everything should be. The story is fluid and understandable, and what to say about the characters, they are very nice. It was a sad and amazing scene to see that father who became hellish sitting quietly at his table. I would like there to be a cure for the infernal ones :(. Obi, he showed why he is the captain. I take off my hat for his words "The soldiers of fire face a sea of flames for the survivors". I like it to be the same Zoro seiyuu. He does it better. And about the new recruit, Arthur. It looked kind of hateful at first, but I see that he gets along relatively well with Shinra. They are a kind of rival friends xD. Arthur's plasma sword is great. Hahaha, Maki has the ability to create flame creatures, but they are destroyed by the lieutenant. LOL 😂. That girl is very funny when she is tender, and when she gets angry. Anyway, the story is on the right track, I hope it continues like this. I'm curious about "the games of the new recruits" 😁. Ps: The cigar bastard ... will it have to do with the father becoming hellish? The first enemy comes to light. This will become interesting. |

Oubi told Shinra about a game for noobs, he’s gonna participate with the member that arrived that day, Arthur. Shinra encountered with Arthur (they know each other) and started a discussion (rivalry), they got to the rooftop (where Maki and Iris were), Takehisa arrived and ordered Maki to fight with them, Shinra used his jet foots and Arthur his plasma sword, but failed against Maki’s pyrokinesis. Later, Shinra and Arthur were resting when the alarm rang, in the way there, Oubi told the team to keep their weapons inside their jackets, they arrived to the house (there was a girl mourning her father), and Oubi explained Shinra and Arthur the importance of the wapons (a strange guy threw dust/ash to the ground), outside the house, a skull of flames appeared and they quickly entered to the house, the infernal was sitting quietly and Arthur finished with him, suddenly the house collapsed and a skull made of smoke appeared. The episode was ok, not that much exciting, it brought more feelings than nothing, related to the girl that lost both her parents. New member, Arthur with a sword named Excalibur, nothing related to the tale of King Arthur, hahaha. Strange guy caused the skulls made of fire and smoke, maybe the villain or the cause of the fire that Shinra is looking for. |

im not loving this show so far tbh. feels like we go from very exciting action shots to silent still frames and weird close-ups on random character body parts. the pauses people are mentioning definitely got to me. no, they're not artistic. stop this. the only time still frames were used well in my opinion was the scene with the infernal father sitting quietly at the table, that did well to add to the tension. the dialogue isn't great, something about it just doesn't feel natural, like the show is rushing through the introduction to get to some fights which also feel weirdly forced. then again the action animation is one of the only high points so maybe rushing to fights isn't a bad idea. maybe i'll drop it, but i generally like to give shows a cour before i give up on them |

Really surprising episode, to be honest. I expected another action-packed episode, especially after that last one, but this is a really pleasant surprise. Also, TOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRNAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEEEEEENT AAAAAARCCC |

ovo4 said: For the people complaining about content being cut, it wasn't anything important. Thanks for the information, plus seeing that ex-Shaft staff members' footprints in this series. And I agree that though adaptations are meant to be followed strictly, but depending on the production level, this "creative freedom" definitely is for the better. That's for now, and I think this change definitely fills in the pacing of the anime better than how the manga paced situations separately. This is just IMO, don't need to debate that much. Maki is a sweet girl, but when triggered, she is absolutely insane. Definitely a strong-willed grateful girl. And did anyone catch the Bobobo reference? And along, the new recruit Arthur "Knight King" has some history with Shinra, the "Devil", seems typical Shounen traits, but as of now, this is just the beginning. Although this episode felt slow-paced and with some content cut (which will get back in the future) to create some awkward moments, this is still a good episode overall. Next episode, tournament arc... |

That weird cut when Shinra was challenging Arthur to go out and fight. Then they suddenly segue into the OP. That just made me go "huh?" People are complaining about things getting cut, LOL welcome to the Anime industry, folks! You will find that a lot of Anime adaptations are severely disappointing. You simply get used to it. If you want the main unadulterated, detailed story with zero shortcuts then read the manga AND light or web novel if it's available. I enjoyed the episode and am glad they finally showed Arthur, Joker and the mascots Pusu Pusu and Mera Mera. I am excited to see a certain 'cat girl' in the next episode. She's also another one of my faves. |

I love how Arthur quickly turned from a rebel to a compassionate bastard. it's an okay episode at least. |
