Love hunting the spy. In the manga there was information about Ray that was hidden from us while they were flushing out the spy

Well, I wasn't expecting that last scene between Norman and Ray. I thought Don was the traitor but after Norman's accusation, Ray also may be the one who slipped the note under Mama's door since probably Norman never told neither Gilda nor Don anything about a rope... honestly, it was a very intriguing episode.

The pacing for this is just unbearably slow. The first episode was great, but three episodes later and nothing of import has happened. The "twist" at the end would have been alright if I didn't see it coming. Perhaps this just isn't for me.

It was an ok episode, the first episode is still the best one for me.

I don't like that Sister Krone is yelling her plan like that, it makes her look stupid, not creepy and calculating and I bet the manga wanted to make her creepy and calculating instead. Also the comedy music in those parts are cringe worthy, Sister Krone is becoming the clown type of character, that's not good imho.

It's an ok anime, not a trainwreck but it could have been better. I'm not complaining though, I've seen worse.

Best episode yet and the three episodes before this one.

I hope it is Ray for real who did betray them and Norman kills him ( that would make an awesome drama, even if it won't happen).

That was some pretty good trolling about the rope. Seems as tho it's very likely to be Ray tho. Unless I'm mistaken, Norman didn't actually tell Gilda nor Don about the rope (at least not on screen), but he did tell Ray all of that. The only thing is Ray would have had to have gotten lucky since if he tried to frame Gilda it would have been figured out by Emma's spying. Now there could be some higher levels of trolling here and I've probably missed something, but I'm kinda excited to see the reveal next ep.

Wow, way to subvert my expectations. Up until the end of this episode I had thought Gilda was the traitor. Her actions in the previous episodes had all just been a massive red herring. I'd definitely be interested in what happens next, although I have a feeling that Ray is just going to be converted.

It's hard to get used to Sister Krone's creepiness.
So they decided to let Gilda and Don know about the truth. I thought Gilda was the spy. But she wasn't.
Sister Krone is so damn straight forward that it's scary when she's inquiring someone.

Ok wait. What the fuxk? Ray was the spy?! I thought Don was the one!

Something doesn't feel that right we got to see Ray's true identity appeared much quicker than I expected. I wished there would have been more event happened before that big plot twist appeared. Other than that, I am fan some of the changes like the Krone's character continues to amuses me. The sound direction also have been impressive as well.

Well, I watch 3 episodes, I think to read manga alongside, I couldn't control, I finish manga in 2 days, I fall in love with vs with the series. Now I patiently wait for the episode, I'm not happy, not at all. First 3 episodes were really well executed as far as I can see. But this one, they just wrecked it. There were so many moments missed, but specifically something that they absolutely did wrong was the scene of telling Don and Guilda, Emma persuaded them to help, nope Emma would never lie to them directly, she isn't a character like that, in the manga Don is furious regarding conny and he says let's go and save her. This adds a lot to the character of Don and Emma. But in anime, they just, what should i say, I'm not a critique but when you see something great, something you're emotionally in touch with getting messed up really hurts, let's just hope that they don't continue this.

Conversely I think this episode is better than the previous 2 episodes because they skip less, only 2 chapters adapted..

I thought something similar. Really need to reread these chapters, but overall I think that isn't possible to do a 1:1 adaption and they might know why they changed it / thought something about that.

Great episode!

It’s Ray after all, I’d my doubts regarding him since the last two episodes or so, and what a way to prove it Norman! Ray’s defeated expression in the end there just goes to show how thoroughly Norman managed to outwit Ray and Mama both. I feel like a slow soundtrack during the whole scene with the tempo rising during the revelation would’ve made the scene more impactful for me, but it was a good enough to satisfy me. I just have to wonder though, isn’t this whole plan like a really big risk? Of course traitors are going to mess things up even more in the long run but revealing important info, even if they’re misleading with hints of truth, like that is really risky. What’s Norman up to now though and just how much has Ray betrayed Emma, Norman and co by spilling the beans on their escape plan? Does this mean Don is innocent too? It would surely be one heck of a surprise if Don turns out to be a spy of Mama’s too, surely Norman will get around to proving that right? Pretty sure he was aware that there’s a greater danger outside the farm even before Conny’s leave too, how’d he know all that? Lots of Questions, hopefully next week’s episode will get around to answering them! I have to got to say though, the Studio could really do better with handling the mystery, I feel like they’ve probably given a bit too much away in this episode, the first too, making the impact of the revelations a little underwhelming.

I don't really get it, Ray told Gilda it's in the ceiling of the second floor bathroom and Don it is under the bed, Gilda tells Mama that it was under the bed and it was gone. Why does he suspect Ray then?
Because he lied to Ray. He told him he will tell the other boy it is in Norman's bed but he told something else. I think he suspected Ray because he tried desperately to accuse other kids of being the traitor without much proof.

Its not just some, they completely removed them from the story.
TPN's first arc in the manga (this one) was pretty carried by the inner monologues, but here in the adaptation instead of just omitting some and keeping the rest like 50/50, they changed to the characters talking it out loud instead of thinking in their heads only. This makes them seem like not as smart as they are in the manga.

Also, i know people are talking about their displeasure about the fact i just stated (even i am) and it may get annoying for others, but being disappointed and not be able to say it because people just label you as a manga elitist or adaptation hater is truly sad. There were other changes that while not bad, made the pacing worse compared to the source material they had.
I mean, its obvious we are happy the story got the chance to have an anime adaptation, but that doesnt change the fact they could be directing the episodes a little better.

If anything, not making the whole thing an inner monologue for the Krone makes her look even more insane, just shouting that out aloud. I don't know about the rest of the dialogues, but she could definitely been seen in a different light it the monologues, as the original source readers mention, would be more "true" to the source and stay inner.

See, that's the problem. Krone isn't insane in the manga.

Great episode. The tension is rising, and the mind games are getting more clever.

The faces Krone makes are really creepy, and I feel like it's only a matter of time before she becomes completely unhinged and does something crazy. Mom obviously doesn't trust her, and probably has something planned for that.

I'm glad they decided to tell Gilda and Don. Gilda seemed like she knew something was wrong, and Don seemed smart enough to handle it and be of use to them. Although I was really worried Gilda would rat on Emma and the others, I'm glad she didn't. It seems like Krone already knows, and is going behind Mom's back to prove it, which probably won't end well for her.

So, Norman is now my favorite character because of the rope thing. That was so clever! He even suspected Ray, so he told Ray his plan but I'm guessing he didn't actually say anything to Gilda and Don, and that was the "other plan" he was talking about. Brilliant, Norman. Although, I hope they forgive Ray and he changes his ways, because I did like Ray.

I feel like this is all building to something huge (not just the escape), and there will be bigger twists ahead. I feel like the escape sequence will be insane, I can't wait.

I think I said this already, but I'm glad I didn't read the manga first. I see some people saying the anime is bad or rushed, but I'm loving it so far. I think some people are just too concerned with things matching the source material and can't enjoy them for what they are. I'll probably read the manga once this is done airing.

This silent battle is so nerve-racking, and intense that I can't even. So Gilda was innocent after all, the way she was framed in the previous episode and while getting up from her bed were just big teases.

And the traitor is Ray after all, huh. Thinking back he did accept the truth, which involves man-eater demons, way too easily. I thought it was just his "cool" and standoffish personality, but props to Norman for doubting him, and being able to make him fall into a trap in the first place.

Maybe he found out the truth before in a similar fashion, and their "benevolent mom" chose him to be allowed to live. Or maybe one of them is chosen even if they never find out the truth, I don't know. It may even be a lie that he is going to be spared for selling the others out. Maybe the traitor isn't even him, it doesn't seem like the twists are going to stop anytime soon. I love how the story plays with your expectations like this, this isn't your average Jump title after all.

Dammit, this anime is too enjoyable... I'm really reading into it. It ends with Norman accusing Ray, whereas, last episode, the placed a red herring in the form of Gilda; I did feel as though there was too much emphasis on her.
The episode had me really thinking about it, if Norman would go so far so as to set up a plan for the potential spy, would he even attempt bait his co-conspirators... and the end confirmed this. I don't feel like this is only an accusation, and Emma is too innocent as opposed to Ray's more aloof demeanour; anyways, can't wait to see if this'll be confirmed in the following episode.

Cliffhanger was pretty weak, but I liked the suspense throughout the episode trying to find out who the informant was. I guess out of their group it would make the most sense for it to be Ray, the weird looks he gave Emma and Norman in earlier episodes were probably the hints

i did suspect ray honestly, it's typical to have someone in the inner group to be the informant. but i feel like whilst he appears to be a traitor, he isn't the big traitor.
im actually thinking that one of the main three might be related to mom? moms a smart woman and all three of them are the smartest kids in the entire house, maybe that'd be a good plot twist to happen. purely judged off of the intelligence for now though.

a part of me still can't figure out what is all the fuss about this show. just from these 4 episodes alone i don't feel like the show deserves all the praise. i mean, it's atmospheric but that's pretty much it for me. even prison break had more to offer, introducing new characters and plot twist. yet this one is just some one-sided attempts to escape with even Mama knowing about it...

also, a major factor i can't digest this properly is the fact that 11 year olds are acting like genius tacticians, where did all get that experience come from in the first place, being held in a isolated orphanage...

Okaish ep ...not totally unexpected that ray would be the one. The whole don thing was just a red herring. What i don't like is them making Krone a comic-relief character.

AyumiVk said:

Ray wasnt the one who told them, it was Norman. He just said to Ray the location he would tell Don and Gilda the ropes were (i wonder why~).

Norman told that to Ray because Norman suspected him. He purposely gave Ray wrong info abt telling Don that rope was under his bed. He actually would have told Don the rope was someplace else. So the only one who knew that the rope was under norman's bed was ray.

I am quite certain by now that Norman is right ad Ray is the spy. I suspected him since the last episode and it feels right. He belongs to the next batch that will be culled, he is smart and unlike Norman not in love with Emma. Also he was trying way too hard to make everyone else but himself look like the likely suspect. That was dodgy.

Very exciting episode. As always, very beautiful and well done, with magnificent look. At first, we can observe a little of the intelligence of the pair Norman and Ray, suggesting that teams be made for other children to learn to flee, but with that idea, the question arises about telling someone else about what is happening, and they decide to tell to Don and Gilda. The episode continues and with many parts tense, we can see the premises of the anime, the suspense in the air, the mystery surfacing. Lastly, a large plot twist, but that may have passed in the head of some more skeptical previously.
